Ground-breaking ceremony of Public Facilitation Centre at SC held
Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Chairman of the Court's Building Committee, performed the ceremony in the presence of the chief justice of Pakistan, fellow justices, the attorney general for Pakistan, representatives of the Supreme Court Bar Association, and officers from the Capital Development Authority (CDA), NESPAK, and the Supreme Court administration.
Speaking on the occasion, the chief justice underscored that 'litigants are the pulse of judicial reform,' stressing that every touchpoint must be respectful, seamless, and located 'under one roof.'
He noted that while many services already exist, their dispersion across different wings had burdened the visitors.
The Centre will therefore consolidate filing counters, certified-copy desks, information kiosks, and facilitation booths into a single, citizen-centric hall, supported by modern technology integration such as biometric queue management, self-service e-kiosks, and real-time case-status displays.
The registrar, Muhammad Salim Khan, highlighted that the project originated from Justice Mandokhel's vision to remove physical hurdles and create an accessible interface between the public and the Court.
The NESPAK architects presented a brief overview of the design, which features barrier-free access, a digital helpdesk, and a comfortable waiting lounge. The CDA has committed to establishing a dedicated bus stop and shuttle connection, ensuring smoother transit for visitors arriving from across the capital.
Appreciating the Building Committee's milestone achievement, the chief justice expressed confidence that the Centre will 'translate constitutional promises into everyday convenience,' reaffirming the Supreme Court's resolve to harness technology for faster, fairer, and more transparent justice.
He announced that the Public Facilitation Centre is scheduled to be completed within two months, marking one of the fastest civil-works turnarounds in the court's history. Construction begins immediately, with phased service migration planned to minimise any disruption to ongoing court business.

PESCO launches Pension Management System
PESHAWAR: In a major step towards digital transformation and transparency, the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (PESCO) has launched it's first-ever PESCO Pension Management System (PPMS); a comprehensive software solution in-house. The software was developed by Arif Hameed, Assistant Manager ERP under the leadership of Finance Director PESCO, Yasir Naseem, according to a statement here on Wednesday. This landmark development replaces the company's manual pension system, ensuring swift, transparent, and hassle-free processing of pension cases. The PPMS will significantly reduce the processing time for pension applications, eliminating long-standing delays and challenges faced by pensioners under the old system. Recognizing this achievement, Chairman PESCO Board of Directors, Himayatullah Khan, commended Arif Hameed for his outstanding contribution and awarded him a Certificate of Appreciation. Board Member Fazal-e-Khaliq also presented him with an Honorary Shield as a token of recognition for his commendable efforts. With this initiative, PESCO became the first power distribution company to introduce a comprehensive digital pension management system, setting a new benchmark in public service efficiency and digital transformation within the power sector. This software will manage the complete pension process from initial case preparation to final payment and monthly pension disbursements processed through PPMS eliminate the risk of duplicate payments. It will provide one-click access to detailed payment records for transparency and audit readiness and will automatically make calculations and ensure compliance with pension regulations for all case types. Child Protection Institute marks Independence Day with zeal
ISLAMABAD: The Child Protection Institute (CPI) celebrated Pakistan's 78th Independence Day on Wednesday with fervour, joy, and a strong message of unity, equality, and hope for the future, said a press release. The event brought together children residing at the Institute, staff members, and the management for a day filled with national spirit and meaningful reflections. The celebration began with the children waving national flags and singing popular national songs that echoed through the halls of the Institute. Their voices carried a mix of pride and excitement, setting the tone for the day. This was followed by a cake-cutting ceremony to mark the occasion, symbolizing unity and shared happiness. To engage the young participants in Pakistan's history, CPI staff held a short quiz on the creation of Pakistan. The children eagerly answered the questions. They also explained the meaning of the national flag's colours, noting that green represents the Muslim majority, white symbolizes the rights of religious minorities, and the crescent and star signify progress and light. Speaking to the gathering, the children shared their vision for the country they call home. They expressed their desire for a Pakistan free from poverty and hunger, where every child has access to quality education and opportunities to grow. 'We want a Pakistan where no child goes to bed hungry and where schools welcome every child,' one participant said, earning applause from others. Director General of CPI, Rabeea Hadi, addressed the children with an inspiring message about the struggles endured during the creation of Pakistan. She spoke about the vision of a country founded on Islamic principles of justice, equality, and compassion. 'Pakistan was not created without sacrifice,' she reminded them. 'It was built on the dream of a place where every citizen is treated equally, without any difference of colour, caste, or religion — as Islam teaches us. This is the principle we must follow here in the Institute and in our lives.' Hadi encouraged the children to dream big and work hard toward achieving their goals despite challenges.
