Sean ‘Diddy' Combs' defence team request mistrial

Perth Now28-05-2025

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' defence team have requested a mistrial.
The rapper, 55, is standing trial in New York on federal charges including sex trafficking and racketeering, and his legal staff have now alleged prosecutorial misconduct over the questioning related to alleged destroyed evidence in the arson case involving a car belonging to Combs' fellow performer Kid Cudi.
Combs' lead lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, has criticised the prosecution for making an 'outrageous' suggestion his client could have been involved in the destruction of fingerprint evidence connected to the 2011 Molotov cocktail attack on Kid's Porsche. Mr Agnifilo argued the implication was unfairly presented to the jury during the cross-examination of arson investigator Lance Jimenez.
Lance had testified fingerprint evidence from the Molotov cocktail bottle was destroyed in 2012 without his knowledge, on orders from the Los Angeles Police Department, which was not part of his investigative team.
After a brief recess and with the jury excused, Mr Agnifilo said the prosecution's remarks 'implied that someone in this courtroom was responsible for the destruction of the fingerprint cards'.
He urged Judge Arun Subramanian to declare a mistrial on grounds of prosecutorial misconduct, but the motion was denied. The judge agreed to strike the fingerprint evidence discussion from the record and instructed the jury to disregard it as irrelevant to the case.
Day 11 of Combs' trial began on Wednesday (28.05.25) with testimony from a Los Angeles police officer who responded to the break-in at Kid Cudi's property in December 2011.
Capricorn Clark, who worked intermittently for Combs between 2004 and 2018, testified on Tuesday (27.05.25) about the alleged stressful and violent environment she endured at the rapper's hands, which she said caused her to develop alopecia. She said Combs threatened her repeatedly, including on her first day after learning she had worked for his rival Suge Knight's Death Row Records.
'What did Mr. Combs tell you in the park?' prosecutors asked Capricorn.
She replied: 'That since I'd worked for Suge Knight, if anything happened, he might have to kill me.'
Capricorn added Combs and his security guard allegedly kidnapped her in December 2011 after learning about the relationship between Kid Cudi and Combs' singer ex Cassie Ventura, 38.
She said she witnessed Combs break into Kid's home and engage in a car chase after the rapper in his black Porsche.
Capricorn also said she was forced to undergo a five-day lie detector test and was threatened with being 'thrown in a river' if she failed, following the disappearance of some of Combs' jewelry.
She described being allegedly locked in an abandoned New York building while questioned over the missing items.
Clark broke down in tears during her testimony while describing the apparent brutal conditions of her employment and said she worked long hours for low pay under constant threat.
More than a dozen witnesses, including Cassie, have testified against Combs so far.
The 55-year-old denies all charges and maintains his sexual encounters were consensual.
His federal trial is expected to continue for eight weeks and he faces up to life in jail if convicted on all charges against him.

Mary Lou Retton 'determined to learn and grow' after DUI conviction

Mary Lou Retton is "determined to learn and grow" following her conviction for driving under the influence (DUI). The Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast, 57, was arrested by police in West Virginia last month after she was found behind the wheel of her Porsche in a parking lot with a bottle of wine in the passenger seat and she appeared in court on Tuesday (10.06.25) where she pleaded no contest plea to a non-aggravated DUI charge. She has now released a statement via PEOPLE apologising for her actions. It reads: "I take full responsibility for my actions. What happened was completely unacceptable. I make no excuses. To my family, friends and my fans: I have let you down, and for that I am deeply sorry. "I am determined to learn and grow from this experience, and I am committed to making positive changes in my life. I truly appreciate your concern, encouragement and continued support." Retton's attorney Edmund J. Rollo added the former sports star "asks for privacy as she moves forward with her personal and professional life". Police claimed that during the incident in West Virginia, Retton refused to have her blood tested for alcohol but three field sobriety tests confirmed she was too impaired to drive. She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or drugs; penalties and released from custody after posting a personal recognizance bond of $1,500. The former Dancing with the Stars contestant was fined $100 for the offence. The incident comes less than two years after Retton was left fighting for her life in intensive care after she was struck down with a rare form of pneumonia. Retton's daughter McKenna, 26, launched an online fundraiser to help pay for her mum's treatment because she didn't have medical insurance and it pulled in more than $459,000. The former sports star - who is mother to four daughters - went on to make a full recovery and shared an emotional open letter thanking her loved ones for all their support during such a tough time. In a post on Instagram, she wrote: "I want to express how truly blessed and thankful I am to be slowly improving and to be home with my girls, especially after my time in the hospital. "The love and support of my four amazing daughters have been a source of strength and inspiration throughout my journey. Their presence in my life is a testament to the incredible bonds of family. "My extended family, all of you, have shown me immeasurable kindness, offering prayers, encouragement, and unwavering support during my challenging times. Your love has been a beacon of hope in my life."

‘There's no violence': Democrat Maxine Waters blatantly tells Americans to deny reality of LA riots

California Democratic Congresswoman Maxine Waters has claimed there's "no violence" during the anti-ICE riots ravaging Los Angeles and urged Americans to ignore the chaos they see with their own eyes. Speaking at a Capitol Hill press conference on Tuesday, Waters insisted, 'Nobody was shot, nobody was killed, get it into your head". She added, 'There was no violence. I was on the street, I know,' despite footage showing rioters hurling rocks, Molotov cocktails, and torching cars. Triggered by ICE raids targeting criminal illegal immigrants, the unrest has led to over 160 LAPD arrests since Friday for charges including assault and vandalism. President Trump deployed 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to restore order, criticising local leaders for inaction.

Sean 'Diddy' Combs' ex says she joined 'cuckold' sex marathons to feel loved by him

Your web browser is no longer supported. The woman testified at Combs' sex-trafficking trial under the pseudonym 'Jane' to protect her identity. A day earlier, she revealed their three-year relationship lasted until the Bad Boy Records founder was arrested in September at New York hotel, where she'd been planning to meet him. Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges that carry a potential penalty of 15 years to life in prison. He has been jailed without bail. (Getty Images via CNN) Prosecutors allege Combs used violence, threats and a network of employees and associates to control and abuse women for two decades. His lawyers have told the jury in federal court in Manhattan that although there was domestic violence in his relationships, everything he did sexually was consensual. Earlier in the trial, R&B signer Casandra ' Cassie ' Ventura testified over four days that Combs physically abused her and that she participated in hundreds of 'freak-off' sexual performances during a nearly 11-year relationship that ended in 2018. The Associated Press doesn't name alleged victims of sexual abuse without their consent unless they have shared their identities publicly, as Cassie has. Attorney Teny Geragos, representing Combs, cross-examined Jane on Tuesday by leading her into discussing the drug-fuelled sexual marathons choreographed by Combs - which Jane said sometimes happened weekly - by reminding her that she mentioned regrets in earlier testimony. 'I resent him for leading me into the lifestyle he led me to,' Jane said. 'I resented the way he went about introducing me to this lifestyle.' She said she agreed to these 'hotel nights' while 'under a lot of emotional pressure' — and already hooked on love and a desire to stay in a relationship with Combs. (Elizabeth Williams via AP) (AP) Jane testified that she partook in the encounters, sometimes grudgingly, because they pleased Combs and she enjoyed spending time alone with him afterward. Jane testified she began therapy about three months ago. She previously met with lawyers on Combs' defence team but cut off those meetings in April, days before the trial began. She said she struggles to understand why she kept participating in 'hotel nights' even though she only wanted to have sex with Combs, however the reasons are 'becoming more and more clear' as she proceeds with therapy. Jane initially felt it was 'something very special' to have these secret sexual experiences with Combs. She said she didn't want to judge him and 'really wanted to just go along with these things because if I can be my partner's escapes than I would be.' Jane said she researched sexual variations in 2022 and came across the words 'cuck' and 'cuckold,' which seemed to fit the lifestyle she found herself in because she said a man known as a 'cuck' derives pleasure seeing 'his woman receive pleasure' from another man. 'He likes to use the words 'voyeurism' and 'escapism,'' Jane said. She added: 'I would use the word cuck for him more so.' Geragos reminded Jane that she had testified last week that she loves Combs currently. Geragos had Jane read aloud some of the many sexually explicit messages in which she expressed the types of activities she wanted to engage in during 'hotel nights' with Combs and male sex workers as she tried to portray Jane as a willing and eager participant in frequent sex events. In earlier testimony, Jane provided recent examples of Combs acting violently toward a woman while seeking to fulfill his sexual desires. Cassie sued Combs in November 2023 alleging sexual abuse. The lawsuit was settled within hours for US$20 million (A$30.65 million), but it touched off the criminal investigation into Combs. World courts Sean Diddy Combs USA crime CONTACT US
