Tacky Home Decor Trends People Think Need To Disappear

Buzz Feed4 days ago
We all know that taste is subjective. So when you walk into someone's home, their decor might not be the same as what you like.
But recently, real estate agent @EricGoldie asked people on TikTok for the decor that they think screams "this home is tacky." Judging by the responses, there's a handful of choices that people pretty much across the board think is tacky.
Here are some of the most-agreed-upon responses:
Mirrored furniture.
—felipewitov
"Taj Mahal" stone (quartzite with gold veining).
—Royalrusset
Anything that starts with "In this house..."
—kattales54
"That damn Tom Ford coffee table book."
"When a regular house has a beach house theme."
—kayatreea
Studded couches or bed frames.
—serenalucila
"Anything Rae Dunn 🚩🚩🚩📌📌📌"
"Quotes all over the walls. Stop it."
—cnormgo
"Signs announcing what room it is... "Kitchen", "Bathroom: Wash your hands!"
—lillian7129
"Mounted dead animal heads."
—KGo-Key
"Couches with cup holders."
—dmarie19694
"Anything with a luxury brand logo. Chanel doesnt make toilet seat covers babes."
—deeayeego
''Family' displayed everywhere. Like wtf else is living there."
—jessyourmess
"American flag as decor. 😬"
—miss.andryy
"The big wooden fork and spoon hanging in the kitchen."
—susanwillis361
"Not necessarily decor, but being nearly knocked out by apple cinnamon [scent plug-ins] (or any scent really) the second you walk in the door automatically makes everything else about the house extremely tacky."
—russtor
"I'll die on this hill but televisions in bedrooms."
—Spliffthekid
"Bible quote placards all over like, 'As for this house, we will serve the lord!'"
—moonflour475
"The multiple gothic crosses on one wall."
—macebee
"MAGA stuff, confederate flags."
—lilith.yarrow
And finally, a reminder: "Rent so high I don't even feel right commenting on this. If you got a house, you're doing a good job. A home is a luxury."

A TikTok-beloved "Soft" perfume rollerball that honestly has no right smelling so delectable and layering so well considering it's only five cash dollars. Not only is it faster than comparable models, but it's cheaper, entirely portable, and doesn't need to be charged or plugged in. 🤯 You're going to be swimming in a RIVER of delicious, affordable cold brew with this gizmo. A bottle of callus-removing gel so effective at sloughing off dead, hardened skin that one reviewer described it as, "Horrifically satisfying." A beautifully packaged, travel-friendly Touchland Power Mist hydrating hand sanitizer for anyone who's like "mindfully practicing health and safety, but make it fashion." Unlike other sanitizer sprays, it's infused with aloe vera to keep your skin hydrated and has the most luxurious floral scents. A chic under-the-cabinet banana hanger so easy to install that you'll wonder why you didn't free up all your counter space *YEARS* ago. Also digging the whole "bananas as decor" vibe here. A crinkle cutter tool for veggies, fruit, potatoes, and cheese that not only makes meal prep a breeze, but makes certain foods more enticing for the picky eaters in the fam. Everyone knows a squiggly-shaped thing tastes better than a regular shape ... it's just science! A benzene-free, travel-friendly applicator of I Dew Care's dry shampoo powder so easy to use that you can just dab it on your hairline and rub it in for an instant, oil-absorbing refresh. Now your "no wash" days are a secret that you and your roots will never tell. 👀 Londontown "Nail Veil" Protectant, which is designed not only to protect your nails, but to act as a sheer tint to enhance their natural look. It's basically "no makeup makeup," but for your fingernails. A double-sided cutting board *and* defrosting board with enough capabilities to make your lil' brain spin. One side of the board is made with food-grade stainless steel for cutting meat while the other is made with wheat straw for cutting fruits and veggies, helping save cutting board space and preventing cross-contamination. But reviewers also note that the stainless-steel side is *excellent* for defrosting meat faster, and the built-in garlic grinder on the wheat straw side is also a handy little time saver! A pack of dual-sided SneakErasers designed so that one side of them cleans scuffs, dirt stains, and grime, and the other side whitens them, restoring your sneakers and their soles to their former glory. Take THAT, passage of time. An oh-so-sweet hummingbird lamp with three brightness levels and a touch sensor that reviewers love using as a reading light, a wind-down light, or a nursery light. Bonus: it also functions as an aroma diffuser if you add 3–4 drops of essential oil to the top of its head. Ninja's *portable* Crispi Air Fryer system, perfect for people with high foodie standards and a chaotic schedule. This "all-in-one system" cooks your food in the same container you eat from, so you can pop your meal into the air fryer, cook it, and either pack it for later or eat it right out of the container.

Royals who abdicated the throne or stepped back

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shocked the world in January 2020 when they announced they were planning to step back as senior members of the British royal family. Their decision, while controversial, wasn't the first time members of royal families around the world decided to abdicate the throne or step back from their royal duties. King Edward VIII Edward, Duke of Windsor, was crowned King Edward VIII in January 1936 following the death of his mother, Queen Victoria. However, Edward, who was Queen Elizabeth's uncle, abdicated the throne in December 1936, serving less than a year as king, so he could marry American Wallis Simpson. 'Given my character, my roving curiosity and independence, my life appeared to form a disconnected pattern—duty without decision, service without responsibility, pomp without power,' Edward wrote in his 1951 memoir. 'Meanwhile, something had happened that, although I did not realise it at the time, was destined to change the whole course of my life. I met Wallis Warfield Simpson.' Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Nearly two billion people around the world watched Prince Harry and Meghan Markle get married in 2018. However, less than two years after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's wedding, they announced in January 2020 that they would be stepping back from their roles. The decision followed rumors of heightened tensions with Prince William and Kate Middleton, People magazine reported. After spending some time in Canada after leaving the U.K., the couple moved to Southern California and are raising their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. Princess Diana The late Princess Diana lost her official title of 'Her Royal Highness' after she and then-Prince Charles divorced in 1996, according to People magazine. Diana was still allowed to use her apartment at Kensington Palace and retained an allowance. On Oct. 26, 2021, Princess Mako, who's the niece of Japan's Emperor Naruhito, was forced to give up her royal title and benefits when she married Kei Komura in a no-frills ceremony due to Komura not being of royal descent, according to People. 'I am very sorry for the inconvenience caused, and I am grateful for those … who have continued to support me,' she said at her wedding, according to the BBC. 'For me, Kei is irreplaceable — marriage was a necessary choice for us.' Komuro and Maco moved to New York City in 2021 and welcomed their first child earlier this year. Margrethe II of Denmark Queen Margrethe II of Denmark, who was the longest-running Scandinavian monarch after reigning for 52 years, stepped down as queen in 2024 so her son, King Frederik X, could assume the throne, People magazine reported.

From R&B to biotech, Aloe Blacc knows how to raise spirits

Get Starting Point A guide through the most important stories of the morning, delivered Monday through Friday. Enter Email Sign Up Blacc is now back in the business world, but not as an underling. His Major Inc. biotech firm focuses on oncology and infectious disease prevention. He recently spoke with the Globe via Zoom from his native Southern California. Advertisement Q. You have such a distinctive and recognizable vocal sound. Was that natural or intentional? A. What happened was that I tried a million different styles. My first debut solo album was called 'Shine Through,' and I sang in multiple styles. And then on my second album, which was 'Good Things,' I sort of focused on folk-soul. And because folk-soul took off from a commercial standpoint, I've used that as my voice over my career, but I still play with a whole range of styles and voices. Advertisement Q. You started in underground rap, and early in your career, when you were on Stones Throw Records, you performed for Boston hip-hop promoter A. It was a long transition, but it was largely inspired by the songs that I was sampling for hip-hop. I was listening to Cat Stevens, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, Bill Withers, Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone. Listening to these artists encouraged me to use my skill with language in a different way, and to challenge myself to combine melody with ability to rhyme at the end of the line. Q. The vocalist on one of Avicii's other huge hits, ' A. I generally write all the songs that I sing. For this particular song I came in with some lyrics, and as I was listening to the guitar progression, I just invented a melody that worked for these lyrics. And Tim [Bergling] — Avicii — put together a great production around that acoustic demo. It was a huge moment for me when the song did so well. I was lucky to be able to have this collaboration where I could extend my lyrics and my voice and my thoughts to so many more people. Q. A few years ago you put out an acoustic version, and it's also Advertisement A. Once the song started gaining a lot of popularity, I thought: This is an opportunity to tell an important story. I'm a first-generation American, so the story of immigrants is something that is intimately relevant. And so I created a music video that spoke about humanizing folks that are just looking for a better life. Q. Your songs are usually written from a very universal perspective, but on your new LP, 'Stand Together,' there's one that seems more overtly political called ' A. That was inspired by the relationship I had with my mentor Q. You sang a tribute to Charley Pride on the A. I've always been a fan of traditional country songwriting, and I feel like some of the very best, most thoughtful writers spend their nine-to-five in a writing room in Nashville. If we could get those folks writing for more of the pop artists, you'd have much better songs with great production, instead of just great production with OK songs. Q. There are those who've seen you in a suit singing conscious soul music and pegged you as a retro act. 'Stand Together' has a very contemporary production and mixes in sounds from Advertisement A. No, I don't care! I'm happy to be in any box. Just make sure there's enough people in that box to have some fun and we can do a concert! ALOE BLACC At City Winery, 80 Beverly St., Boston, Aug. 7, shows at 6:30 and 9:30 p.m. Tickets: $45-$65. Interview was edited and condensed. Noah Schaffer can be reached at .
