Cricketer Nick Greenwood chosen for Jersey's T20 World Cup team despite admitting driving offences
The 25-year-old is one of the island's leading batsmen, scoring 936 runs during 34 T20 appearances for the Bailiwick since his debut in 2019.
He is one of two full-time professionals in Jersey's 15-man team and regularly travels over for matches from his home in New Zealand, where he plays for Wellington.
Greenwood was instrumental in this month's inter-insular win over Guernsey.
However, following post-match celebrations in Jersey, the island's Magistrate's Court heard he got behind the wheel and drove the wrong way down a one-way road without any headlights on.
Greenwood was spotted by another driver who reported it to the police and officers found his car parked at an address.
The Court heard that Greenwood was slurring his words, unsteady on his feet and then fell down the stairs.
Police asked him to carry out a drink-drive test, but he failed multiple times to provide a sample.
Greenwood pleaded guilty to driving without insurance, failing to provide a specimen for analysis, and failing to comply with traffic directions during the court hearing on Tuesday.
He is set to return to court in late July when he will be sentenced.
In response to Greenwood's selection, the Chief Executive Officer of Jersey Cricket, Sarah Gomersall, says: "We acknowledge the seriousness of the situation and are disappointed that it has arisen.
"However, with legal proceedings ongoing, we are not in a position to comment further at this stage."
Jersey Cricket adds that it is not funding any of Greenwood's legal costs and his selection follows a precedent set by other international teams such as New Zealand and England, where players facing non-cricket-related legal proceedings can continue to represent their teams on sporting merit alone.
The qualifiers will run from 5 to 11 July in the Netherlands as Jersey face the host country, plus Guernsey, Italy, and Scotland - the top two teams will secure a place at the main tournament in India and Sri Lanka in 2026.

Archery sisters aiming for more Island Games medals

"Obviously, you always want to win a medal of any colour - gold is obviously the best - but we just want to go there and do our friends, family and the island proud and just see how we get on."Having always been in the Guernsey team together, Zoe said having the support of her sister has been a great help over the years."Thankfully, we shoot different bow styles, so we're not actually ever against each other, so we can support each other from the sidelines."But it is actually really nice that you know that every competition you go to you've got your sister there."We've pretty much competed together for the whole of the time we've done archery."

British Empire Medal for sailing coach's 'remarkable' achievement
A sailing coach from Guernsey has been presented with a British Empire Medal (BEM) by the island's lieutenant-governor for his services to youth Chapple has nurtured the island's young sailing talent for 30 years, leading them to success at international students include an Under-21 European bronze medallist, who was also selected for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic trials, and Island Games gold Richard Cripwell presented the medal on behalf of King Charles III and said Mr Chapple's "dedication to young people is quite remarkable". Funded coaching trips Mr Chapple's involvement with sailing began as a father who wanted to ensure young people in Guernsey had the facilities and training to compete. He said: "I didn't go into the sport or teach with the hope I would get something, but recognition is very nice.
