Bills 'Murderers Row' Predicted To Challenge New-Look Defense
The Buffalo Bills' offseason shopping list had a clear defensive flavour, with Sean McDermott's unit having trouble getting off the field on third down, especially in the playoffs.
The Bills ranked 30th in the league for third-down stops (44 percent), with only the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers worse.

That led general manager Brandon Beane to go defense in free agency with Joey Bosa, Larry Ogunjobi, and Michael Hoecht being signed, while Buffalo's first five draft picks were all defense.
Two defensive tackles in T.J. Sanders and Deone Walker, and defensive end Landon Jackson, to go with first-round corner Maxwell Hairston and defensive back Jordan Hancock. That rounds off the defensive splurge by the Bills.
And McDermott's unit will get a tough initiation in 2025, with the Bills' schedule having a host of quarterbacks on the radar, and for NFL.com's Judy Battista, it will be an interesting watch.
"The overhauled defense will be in the spotlight, because the Bills play a murderers' row of quarterbacks this season: Lamar Jackson, Patrick Mahomes, potentially Aaron Rodgers, Joe Burrow and Jalen Hurts, plus Baker Mayfield, C.J. Stroud and Tua Tagovailoa," Battista writes.
Joey Bosa And The BillsBy Tony Fisher
That is quite the gauntlet for top quarterbacks to face, and in reality, that is why the Bills needed to beef up their defense to cope with what will be coming in the regular season and playoffs.

Josh Allen and the offense are generally considered to be among the best units in football; it's just that the defense has to start pulling its weight.
And with the offseason acquisitions, there is hope that it can.
Because if not, the collection of top quarterbacks will have their way with Buffalo, and there won't be anything Allen and his arsenal of weapons can do about it.

Sabres Predicted to Land All-Star in Major Offseason Move
Sabres Predicted to Land All-Star in Major Offseason Move originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Buffalo Sabres have one of the longest playoff droughts in all of sports. The franchise hasn't seen the postseason since the 2010-11 season, but the front office seems determined to end this streak next year. Advertisement With this, it could see Buffalo be very active on both the free agent and trade market. Buffalo needs to add more legitimate talent to the roster if it wants to have a chance to end the long drought. One player who could make a lot of sense for Buffalo is Dallas Stars wing Jason Robertson. Robertson is reportedly on the trade block this offseason, and it could see Buffalo take a big swing to land him. NHL writer Joe Yerdon of Bleacher Report listed the Sabres as a potential landing spot for Robertson if he is moved. "In the past, the Sabres' deep pool of prospects and wealth of draft picks would be the easiest way to make a deal, but they've got some questions about some of their roster players who could be used to land Robertson. The Sabres have RFAs in forward JJ Peterka and defenseman Bo Byram at the top of the list who could be used to make a big-swing deal. They've also got the No. 9 pick in the 2025 draft, and there's a debate to be had as to whether they should keep that pick or trade it in this kind of move.", Yerdon said. Toronto Maple Leafs left wing Nicholas Robertson (89) and and right wing Mitchell Marner (16) and Dallas Stars left wing Jason Robertson (21) in action during the game between the Dallas Miron-Imagn Images Robertson could be a nice complement piece to star Tage Thompson. His ability to generate scoring chances for both himself and others could allow the Sabres to build a lethal offensive attack. Advertisement For the year, Robertson scored 35 goals and 45 assists for the Stars. Dallas was one of the better teams in the NHL this past season, with Robertson helping to lead the charge. Additionally, his $7.75 million salary cap hit would be fairly affordable for the Sabres to absorb. It remains to be seen how active Buffalo will be this summer, but Robertson could be a solid option. Commanders Defense Got 'Bigger and Stronger' in 2025
Commanders Defense Got 'Bigger and Stronger' in 2025 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. During the 2025 offseason, the Washington Commanders made several high-profile additions to their offense. Wide receiver Deebo Samuel and left tackle Laremy Tunsil stole the show as the biggest acquisitions of the offseason. Advertisement But … Washington made some shrewd moves on the defensive end as well. And those moves have led defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. to believe the unit has gotten better than last year's mark. 'We're really excited about the guys that we added," Whitt said. "We wanted to get bigger and longer. We definitely did that up front. We did in the back end also with [CB] Trey [Amos]. "So, the vision of how we want to play and how we want to be and how we want to look, you're seeing more of it right now from a size and length and speed standpoint.' Washington did lose free agents like safety Jeremy Chinn and edge rusher Dante Fowler Jr. Both players were important to Washington's turnaround last season on the defensive end. Advertisement But with another year in their system, Washington is hoping the current group will get even better. They drafted Amos with their second-round pick and signed Javon Kinlaw, Deatrich Wise Jr., and Will Harris to free agent contracts. These moves may not stick out quite like the Samuel or Tunsil trades, but they are important for the team in 2025. And if this all works out … each addition on the defensive end may end up helping Washington reach the Super Bowl for the first time in decades. Super Bowl-Winning Coach Gets Name Dropped in New Lil Wayne Song
Super Bowl-Winning Coach Gets Name Dropped in New Lil Wayne Song originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Music fans likely all rushed to their devices on Friday, as Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne released what was the sixth of "Tha Carter" series. His 19-track album titled "Tha Carter VI" features from notable artists such as BigXthaPlug, MGK, Kodak Black and 2 Chainz among many others. The New Orleans rapper who many felt was snubbed from performing at this past year's Super Bowl LIX between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs in the Big Easy has always been known for being a lyrical genius. While he's a New Orleans native and a well-known Green Bay Packers fan, Wheezy shouted-out Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay in one of his new songs, "Welcome to Tha Carter." Shortly after name-dropping former NBA star Metta Sandiford-Artest formerly known as Metta World Peace and Ron Artest, Wayne threw in McVay's name while alluding to one of his (Wayne's) personal favorite hobbies. "Smokin' that bomb L.A. like I'm McVay," said Wayne. Aside from being a music icon, Wayne is a huge sports junkie. He has made appearances on ESPN's "First Take," Fox's "Undisputed," and even won an episode of the iconic ESPN show "Around the Horn." As for McVay and the Rams, they came up a couple of plays short of playing in the Super Bowl this past season, and are hoping that with a new addition like All-Pro receiver Davante Adams, they can rectify their shortcomings in 2025. While McVay is likely appreciative of the bar from Wayne, he is also presumably focused on the team's upcoming minicamp in Maui. The Rams open up preseason play on August 9 against the Dallas story was originally reported by Athlon Sports on Jun 6, 2025, where it first appeared.
