Our life incomplete without them: Pahalgam hawker who saved tourist after attack

India Today24-04-2025

A day after a video of a Kashmiri local carrying an injured tourist on his back went viral in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, the man in the video - Sajad Ahmad Bhat, a shawl hawker from the region - shared his account of the horrifying events of April 22. As gunfire shattered the calm of Baisaran Valley, Bhat said he and other locals rushed to the spot to help the tourists.advertisement"Humanity comes before religion," said Bhat, his voice heavy with emotion. Speaking to ANI, he said he rushed to the site after the president of the Pahalgam Pony Association, Abdul Waheed Wan, alerted members through a WhatsApp group about the ongoing attack in the valley."We reached there around 3 pm. We gave water to the injured and lifted those who could not walk. We brought many of them to the hospital. When I saw the tourists crying, tears came to my eyes. Their arrival lights up the lamps in our houses - our life is incomplete without them."
Baisaran Valley, often called 'mini Switzerland' for its alpine beauty, turned into a scene of horror as terrorists opened fire on a group of tourists, killing 26 people. The attack has been claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), an off-shoot outfit of Lashkar-e-Taiba.advertisementIndia Today TV spoke to Abdul Waheed Wan, the president of the Pahalgam Pony Association, who was among the first to raise the alarm about the attack. Wan described the chaos that greeted him when he arrived. "As I reached, it was mayhem. I never imagined I would witness something like this in my life. We took the injured on our backs and tried to take them to the hospital. It was difficult to even react - I was numb - but I tried to pacify the women who were wailing," he recalled.Wan stressed that none of the locals were involved in the attack and that the incident had deeply traumatised the community. "Our livelihood is gone because of this. We also want our kids to be well-educated, to live in peace. The accused must face the strictest punishment. We are broken," he said. Both Bhat and Wan emphasised that their only concern during the attack was to help. "Humanity comes first," Wan echoed. "We put ourselves at risk because helping the injured was our first instinct. That's who we are."Tune InMust Watch

CBI court extends police custody in NEET marks manipulation scam

Mumbai: In the alleged NEET 2025 examination manipulation scam, a special CBI court on Friday extended the police custody of Sandeep Shah, alias Jawahar Shah, and co-accused Salim Patel until June 16. The judge noted that the CBI submitted evidence of substantial progress in the ongoing investigations. On June 10, Shah was initially remanded in police custody until June 13. The CBI submitted that Shah, in furtherance of a conspiracy, contacted vulnerable candidates' parents for NEET 2025, assuring manipulation of marks to secure admission in govt colleges. Shah allegedly demanded and accepted bribes to influence public servants at the National Testing Agency (NTA). The CBI claimed that dummy parents were used to call Shah, where a demand of Rs 90 lakh was made and later settled at Rs 87.5 lakh. On Friday, the CBI sought further police custody, arguing that significant progress was made during the initial remand period. The prosecution submitted that Patel allegedly sent a list of approximately 15 candidates, along with admit cards and three OMRs, via WhatsApp to an individual named Rajiv Sinha. Patel's mobile data was voluminous, containing around 1,600 pages of WhatsApp chats from 2025 alone. It was also alleged that Patel accepted Rs 32.50 lakh in cash from one candidate and Rs 75 lakh through hawala from three other candidates. Further, a candidate was reportedly taken to Noida by Shah. The CBI argued that police custody is crucial to unearth a larger conspiracy and to confront the accused with the chat records. Opposing the custody extension, Shah's lawyer submitted that sufficient police custody was already granted and that there was no substantial progress. The lawyer urged for judicial custody, noting that Shah's mobile phone was already with the CBI. Similarly, Patel's advocate submitted that he cooperated with the investigations and that nothing further needed to be recovered at his instance. The lawyer also pointed out that Patel's mobile was in CBI custody and that the investigating agency was yet to identify any officer from the NTA. The judge observed that witness statements revealed the criminal involvement of both accused, who needed to be confronted with the 1,600 pages of WhatsApp chats, which would require more than four days. The judge also pointed out that the WhatsApp chats revealed names of candidates whose marks were allegedly to be increased in the NEET UG 2025 exam and the serious nature and consequences of the offences. The judge stated that police custody is not confined solely to recovery but is also necessary for proper investigation. During the remand hearing, Patel's lawyer alleged that the police superintendent asked him to keep his mobile outside a cabin. When called before the court, the superintendent denied the allegations except for confirming that the advocate was asked to keep his mobile outside. The court noted that the pursis was not supported by an affidavit and disposed of it accordingly. In a related development, an application filed by the CBI for intimation of search proceedings and submission of audio and video recordings was taken on record. The investigating officer was permitted to retain seized documents and articles until the filing of the chargesheet. The sessions registrar was directed to accept and keep a sealed envelope in safe custody. Follow more information on Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad here . Justice Girish Kathpalia said, 'I am unable to find it a fit case to grant further interim bail to the accused/applicant. "Congress and its clown CM'S antics won't deter us": KTR slams Revanth Reddy over ACB summons in Formula E case

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 13 (ANI): BRS working president KT Rama Rao launched a sharp attack on Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy on Friday, shortly after receiving a notice from the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) to appear before it on June 16 in connection with alleged irregularities in the Formula E race held in Hyderabad. Taking to X, KTR wrote, 'When you cannot run a government, keep people busy with a circus and distractions! Congress and its clown CM's antics won't deter us.' KTR said that he would cooperate with the ACB officials, asserting that the Rs 44 crore in question was transferred through official banking channels and remains in the Formula E account. 'I have been summoned by the Anti-Corruption Bureau to appear for 'investigation' on Monday at 10am, in Formula-E case where 44 crore was transferred from Bank to Bank and the money is very much in the Account of FE. As a law-abiding citizen, I will attend and fully cooperate with the ACB officials!' he said. Taking a swipe at Revanth Reddy, KTR invoked the 2015 cash-for-vote scandal, saying, 'Meanwhile, can someone remind me who just completed 10 years of being caught with a Black Bag full of cash?' Challenging Revanth Reddy to a public face-off, KTR proposed a lie detector test, stating, 'Mr. Revant Reddy, As we both are facing an ongoing ACB investigation, Why not both of us take a Lie Detector test in the presence of a Judge, broadcast it on Live Television and let the whole of Telangana decide who's the culprit. Do you have the courage to take the test along with me?' He also criticised the alleged misuse of public funds, saying, 'Why waste crores of public money by repeated enquiries and propaganda, especially when you keep claiming every day that the state is bankrupt.' KTR is accused of making unregulated payments, some of them in foreign currency, during the organisation of the Formula E race in Hyderabad under the previous BRS government. Supporting her brother, BRS MLC K Kavitha condemned the ACB's summons, alleging a political vendetta. 'I strongly condemn the Congress government issuing notices to our Working President KTR again as part of its political agenda. No matter how many conspiracies you hatch, we will continue to expose your failures in the public sphere,' Kavitha said in a post on X. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also registered an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against KTR and others. The ED initiated the case following the FIR filed by the Telangana ACB in the Formula E funding case. (ANI)
