Congress MP Shashi Tharoor meets former Colombian President Cesar Augusto Gaviria Trujillo

Bogota [Colombia], May 30 (ANI): All-Party Delegation Leader and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said met with former President Cesar Augusto Gaviria Trujillo, leader of the Colombian Liberal Party. Speaking to ANI, Former Colombian President Cesar Augusto Gaviria Trujillo expressed Colombia's solidarity with India, stating that the country rejects any form of terrorism. Trujillo said, 'I want to express to all the people of India that Colombia has solidarity with India. We are your friends and partners. We reject any kind of terrorist. Be certain that under any circumstances or situation, we will be on your side...' In a diplomatic outreach following Operation Sindoor, the Modi government has formed seven multi-party delegations to inform nations about Pakistan's links to terrorism and India's strong message of zero tolerance for terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. Earlier, Shashi Tharoor said that he was disappointed with the Colombian government, as they condoled the deaths of Pakistanis in Indian strikes, instead of sympathising with the victims of the terror attack in India. Tharoor said that there can be no equivalence between perpetrators of terrorism and those who resist it. 'I have to say that we were a little disappointed in the reaction of the Colombian government, which apparently expressed heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in Pakistan after the Indian strikes, rather than sympathising with the victims of terrorism,' he said. Tharoor added that his delegation is here to clear the air and explain India's stance to Colombia- how India exercised its right to self-defence. Tharoor also explained how Pakistan-based 'The Resistance Front', a unit of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack twice. 'We have, as I said, very concrete proof. When this terrorist attack occurred, it was immediately claimed by an organisation called The Resistance Front, which is a unit of the Lashkar-e-Taiba based in Muridke, Pakistan. There is no doubt that they reiterated this credit the next day. It is only after their handlers realised the damage this could do that they then deleted the claim two days later, but the claim has been made,' he said. In a post on X, Tharoor said, 'Our Colombia visit got underway today with a briefing to the delegation from our Ambassador, Vanlalhuma, followed by a well-attended press interaction with more than a dozen local media outlets. I then interviewed with Colombian journalist Juan Camillo Ramirez. Getting the message out where it needs to be heard!' The Tharoor-led multiparty delegation includes Shambhavi Chaudhary (Lok Janshakti Party), Sarfaraz Ahmed (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), G M Harish Balayogi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi, Tejaswi Surya, Bhubaneswar Kalita (all from BJP), Mallikarjun Devda (Shiv Sena), former Indian Ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu, and Shiv Sena MP Milind Deora. The all-party delegation, consisting of representatives from seven national political groups, was initiated to counter Pakistan's misinformation and underscore India's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism. Javed Akhtar's retort to Pakistani actor Bushra Ansari's claim he can't rent home: ‘Me and Shabana sleep on footpath'

Lyricist Javed Akhtar had a retort to Pakistani actor Bushra Ansari's claim that he can't even rent a house in Mumbai. In an interview with Lallantop, he was told about how Bushra opined that he should 'stay quiet like Naseeruddin Shah' after he spoke out against the Pahalgam attacks. Here's what he said. (Also Read: 'Narak jaana pasand karuga': Javed Akhtar on what he would choose 'between Pakistan and hell') Javed was asked about Bushra, and he replied, 'There's this famous Pakistani TV actor, Bushra Ansari, who once asked angrily why I won't stay quiet. She said I should be quiet like Naseeruddin Shah. But who is she to suggest that to me? I might have 25 problems, but I am an Indian when it comes to her.' When told about her statement that he can't even rent a house in Mumbai, Javed joked, 'Yeah, me and Shabana sleep on the footpath these days,' and added, 'See, it is true that Shabana wanted to buy a flat around 25 years ago but they refused saying she's a Muslim. These were people whose parents hailed from Sindh. They were driven out during the partition. The wounds run deep, and that bitterness was taken out on us. But who is responsible for that? We got so much love here, she needs to look at her own country's history.' Bushra had reacted to Javed's speech at the Gauravshaali Maharashtra Mahotsav, where he condemned the killing of 26 tourists by terrorists in Pahalgam's meadows. She reportedly stated on social media that he needs to stay quiet on the issue, like Naseeruddin. On 22 April, terrorists attacked the Baisaran meadow near the Pahalgam town of Anantnag district, and gunned down 26 civilians, mostly tourists. Several others were injured as well. Lashkar-e-Taiba offshoot, The Resistance Front, claimed responsibility for the attack. India has accused Pakistan of cross-border terrorism; however, Pakistan has denied the charges. In retaliation for the Pahalgam terror attack, Indian armed forces carried out missile strikes on nine terror targets in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, including Bahawalpur, which is a stronghold of the Jaish-e-Mohammad terror outfit.

"Disappointed in the reaction of Colombia," All-Party Delegation Leader Tharoor says

Bogota [Colombia], May 30 (ANI): All-Party Delegation Leader and Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said that he was disappointed with the Colombian government, as they condoled the deaths of Pakistanis in Indian strikes, instead of sympathising with the victims of the terror attack in India. 'We will say to our friends in Colombia, there can be no equivalence between those who dispatch terrorists and those who resist them. There can be no equivalence between those who attack and those who defend. We are only exercising our right of self-defence, and if there is any misunderstanding here on this call, we are here to dispel any such misunderstanding. We're very happy to talk to Colombia in some detail about the circumstances,' he said. Tharoor explained how Pakistan-based 'The Resistance Front', a unit of Lashkar-e-Taiba, claimed responsibility for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack twice. 'We have, as I said, very concrete proof. There is no doubt that they reiterated this credit the next day. It is only after their handlers realised the damage this could do that they then deleted the claim two days later, but the claim has been made,' he said. Tharoor said that just like India, Colombia too has endured several terror attacks and India has the right to self-defence. He said that it is a well-known fact that Pakistan has been a breeding ground for terrorism. 'There is no doubt as to where this came from, and we will reserve the right to hit back. Just as Colombia has endured many terror attacks, so have we in India. We have endured a very large number of attacks for almost four decades. Frankly, it is now very well established that Pakistan has been breeding the monsters of terrorism for a very long time for their purposes,' he said. In a post on X, Tharoor said, 'Our Colombia visit got underway today with a briefing to the delegation from our Ambassador, Vanlalhuma, followed by a well-attended press interaction with more than a dozen local media outlets. I then did an interview with Colombian journalist Juan Camillo Ramirez. Getting the message out where it needs to be heard!' 'Disappointed': Tharoor on Colombia's stand on Pak deaths after Op Sindoor

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, leading a multi-party delegation across five countries, expressed disappointment on Friday over the Colombian government's message of condolence for Pakistani casualties following India's Operation Sindoor. Tharoor insisted that there can be no moral equivalence between terrorists and those defending their nation. 'We were a little disappointed in the reaction of the Colombian government, which apparently expressed heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in Pakistan after the Indian strikes, rather than sympathising with the victims of terrorism,' Tharoor told the media in Colombia. #WATCH | Bogotá, Colombia | Congress MP Shashi Tharoor says, "We were a little disappointed in the reaction of the Colombian government, which apparently expressed heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in Pakistan after the Indian strikes, rather than sympathising with the… — ANI (@ANI) May 30, 2025 He said, 'We will say to our friends in Colombia, there can be no equivalence between those who dispatch terrorists and those who resist them. There can be no equivalence between those who attack and those who defend. We are only exercising our right of self-defence, and if there is any misunderstanding here on this core, we are here to dispel any such misunderstanding. We're very happy to talk to Colombia in some detail about the circumstances.' Is the US mediating in the India–Pakistan conflict after the strikes? Tharoor underscored that India's actions followed a brutal terror attack on civilians in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, claimed by The Resistance Front — an offshoot of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) based in Pakistan. 'We're very happy to talk to Colombia in some detail about the circumstances. Just as Colombia has endured many terror attacks, so have we in India. We have endured a very large number of attacks for almost four decades,' he said. Highlighting the need for international understanding, he added: 'We are here looking for understanding… We have the impression that perhaps the situation was not fully understood when that one statement (Colombia extending condolences for deaths in Pakistan after Indian strikes on terror hotbeds) was made. Understanding is extremely important for us. We are a country which has really been a force for constructive progress in the world.' He also urged other governments to pressure states supporting terrorism. 'We certainly hope that other governments will tell those who give safe haven and protection to terrorists to stop doing so. That would be very helpful indeed, as well in the Security Council or outside it,' Tharoor said. Tharoor dismissed speculation about any US mediation efforts in the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan. 'We received a number of phone calls from senior United States officials and also from senior officials of other countries. And the message we gave to all these countries was exactly the same. We are not interested in war. We were just doing retribution for a terrorist attack. If they stop, we stop,' he clarified. He further said: 'Certainly there was no sort of active process of mediation that we are aware of. Certainly nothing involving us, because we never intended to begin with from the very first day when the anti-terror strikes took place on the night of May 7. We are not the belligerent power in this particular equation.' What is Shashi Tharoor's delegation aiming to achieve in Colombia? Tharoor's delegation, part of India's global outreach to highlight the country's fight against terrorism, arrived in Colombia on Thursday after visiting Panama and Guyana. The group will engage with Members of Congress and ministers during their stay in Bogota. The delegation includes MPs Sarfraz Ahmad (Jharkhand Mukti Morcha), GM Harish Balayogi (Telugu Desam Party), Shashank Mani Tripathi (BJP), Bhubaneswar Kalita (BJP), Milind Deora (Shiv Sena), Tejasvi Surya (BJP), and former Indian ambassador to the US Taranjit Singh Sandhu. Tharoor also drew attention to Pakistan's military ties with China. 'China supplies 81 per cent of all Pakistani defence equipment,' he said, while also mentioning the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor. 'Defence is a polite word, Pakistani military equipment. Much of it is not for defence but for attack. Our quarrel is with the perpetration of terror against us,' he added. What triggered Operation Sindoor and how did Pakistan respond? Tensions between India and Pakistan escalated after the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives. India carried out precision strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. Pakistan retaliated with attempts to strike Indian military bases on May 8, 9, and 10. The conflict de-escalated following a mutual understanding to halt hostilities after talks between the directors general of military operations of both sides on May 10.

Shashi Tharoor ‘disappointed' that Colombia expressed sympathies with Pakistan during Operation Sindoor

Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has said India is disappointed with the Colombian government for expressing condolences over the loss of lives in Pakistan during Operation Sindoor, rather than sympathising with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack. The Congress MP, who is leading a multiparty delegation to Colombia, stated on Thursday (May 29, 2025) that India was only exercising its right to self-defence. 'We were a little disappointed in the reaction of the Colombian government, which apparently expressed heartfelt condolences on the loss of lives in Pakistan after the Indian strikes, rather than sympathising with the victims of terrorism,' he said. 'We will say to our friends in Colombia, there can be no equivalence between those who dispatch terrorists and those who resist them. There can be no equivalence between those who attack and those who defend. We are only exercising our right of self-defence, and if there is any misunderstanding here, on this core, we are here to dispel any such misunderstanding. 'We are very happy to talk to Colombia about the circumstances in detail. We have, as I said, very concrete proof. In fact, when this terrorist attack occurred, it was immediately claimed by an organisation called The Resistance Front, which is a unit of the Lashkar-e-Taiba base in Muridke, Pakistan,' Mr. Tharoor said.
