On 2-day Varanasi visit, Yogi asks officials to keep vigil, act tough against ‘urban naxals'
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday called for maintaining a heightened vigil following the Operation Sindoor and directed officials take a strict action against 'urban naxals' and the organisations they are affiliated with, a government spokesperson said.
During a review meeting with officials and public representatives on law and order and development during a two-day visit to Varanasi, the CM also ordered a crackdown on cow smuggling and mining in the border districts of Varanasi zone.
The term 'urban naxal' is used for people from cities who advocate the Maoist movement through their professional and social networks.
The government spokesperson quoted the CM, saying, 'The seized vehicles of cow smugglers and their contacts should be auctioned as per rules. The police should act against incidents of robbery and chain snatching etc and as part of the Safe City campaign.'
Meanwhile, in a post on X, Adityanath on Monday praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi's address to the nation and said it was a 'clear declaration of new India's policy against terrorism'. 'Operation Sindoor is not just a military action, it is a pledge to safeguard the dignity of our sisters and daughters,' said Adityanath, adding if anyone dares to wipe the sacred 'sindoor' (vermilion) from the foreheads of Indian women, he will be 'reduced to dust'.
Affirming that 'India will no longer stay silent', the chief minister said 'every blow will now be answered on our terms'.
During his Varanasi visit, the CM directed that adequate number of CCTV cameras should be installed and a verification of suspicious persons be done. Adityanath also called for completing the ongoing development projects in Varanasi zone within the stipulated time frame while maintaining highest standards of quality.
Directions were also issued to review the ongoing development works on a regular basis and monitoring of quality by nominated nodal officers, he noted. Safety standards should be followed during the construction work.
The CM also visited the National Aging Center at Banaras Hindu University (BHU).
Under the 'Har Ghar Nal Se Jal Yojana', Adityanath asked the Jal Nigam and public representatives to jointly inspect four villages each and verify the quality of work, the official said.
He also ordered expediting the sewerage work in Ramnagar-Sujabad area and explore setting up of a new township near the upcoming international cricket stadium in Ganjari area of the district.
The Chief Minister also proposed setting up a new market on 84 acres of land of the Central Jail and suggested that the Varanasi Development Authority purchase commercial land to provide organised spaces for vegetable, fruit, and milk vendors.
The officials also informed the CM that there are 60 ongoing projects in Varanasi at present.

What I do know is that I think we all recognise that President Trump in each step that he takes, it's made to solve generational differences between countries, generational war." Bruce added that it should not 'surprise" anyone that he would want to 'manage" something like that. 'So, while I can't speak to his plans, the world knows his nature, and I can't speak to any details of what he might have in that regard…But it is an exciting time that if we can get to a point in that particular conflict..," Bruce said adding that it is a 'very interesting time." India has rejected any mediation related to the dispute on Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan and maintains that Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are and will always remain an 'integral" part of the country.
