FIR against SSL hosp nursing assistant for sexual assault attempt on minor

Varanasi: FIR was lodged against a nursing assistant of Sir Sunder Lal Hospital of Banaras Hindu University on Sunday for attempting to sexual assault a minor girl and threatening her family against reporting the matter to police. The girl was with her mother who was attending to her son-in-law admitted to the hospital. Lanka police inspector Shivkant Mishra said on Sunday a case was registered on complaint of the girl's mother under sections 78(2), 75(1), 351(3) of BNS and of the Pocso Act. "We are investigating the matter while medical superintendent of the hospital has also been asked to initiate appropriate action," he said. In her complaint, the girl's mother stated that she was attending to her son-in-law admitted to the gastro ward of the hospital for treatment since May 26. Her 15-year-old daughter was with her. On Saturday evening, the girl was heading to the medicine store when the accused nursing assistant dragged her to a lonely place and tried to sexually assault her. When the girl raised an alarm, he fled the scene. The girl informed her mother about the incident, who alerted hospital authorities. Later, the hospital control room alerted Lanka police, and the outpost in charge arrived at the spot. In initial investigation, police identified the assailant as Hemant Ram, following which the girl's mother lodged a named FIR.

Varanasi: A special art exhibition was organised by the first-year MFA students at the Ahivasi Art Gallery, Faculty of Visual Arts, Banaras Hindu University on Thursday. In this exhibition, the students showcased their digital artworks in physical form, setting an inspiring example of innovative experimentation. The exhibition not only highlighted diverse forms of art but also effectively addressed important themes such as social awareness, health, and cultural values. Among the prominent displays, Divya Kumari's artworks on the theme 'Awareness for Eye Donation' drew attention to the serious issue of eye donation. Similarly, Anshu Chaubey's project 'Hygiene You' aimed at spreading awareness about personal hygiene and health. Continuing this trend, Chanchal Utsavi and other students vividly portrayed various social and cultural subjects through their pictorial expressions. The centrepiece of the exhibition was the series titled 'From Words to Images – Inspired by Mahamana', presented by Ayan Maurya. This special collection depicted the inspiring thoughts of Bharat Ratna Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya through visual art. Each painting illustrated one of his core values—such as character, education, honesty, hard work, service, and patriotism. The series was developed under the supervision of Ashish Kumar Gupta, assistant professor, and professor Manish Arora, head of the Applied Arts Department.

Last Updated: In its latest forecast, the IMD stated that both eastern and western parts of the state will experience rain and strong winds over the next 48 hours According to the latest update from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), rain and thunderstorms are likely to continue across Uttar Pradesh during the last week of May. In its latest forecast, the IMD stated that both eastern and western parts of the state will experience rain and strong winds over the next 48 hours. On Thursday (May 29), rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in around 60 districts of the state. However, districts including Aligarh, Mathura, Agra, Hathras, Firozabad, Chitrakoot, Kaushambi, Pratapgarh, Prayagraj, Jaunpur, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Chandauli, Sonbhadra, and Ghazipur are likely to remain dry. During this period, strong winds are expected to blow at speeds of 30 to 50 kilometres per hour. Both eastern and western UP are expected to witness these weather conditions, which are likely to persist on 30 and 31 May as well. Professor Manoj Kumar Srivastava, a meteorologist at Banaras Hindu University (BHU), explained that the current weather changes are due to a cyclonic circulation and a western disturbance over the region. These factors have brought relief from intense heat and are likely to cause rain and thunderstorms in several districts. These conditions are expected to continue for the next 48 to 72 hours. Rain Recorded In Select Districts On Tuesday, light rain was recorded in Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar. However, other regions in the state experienced intense heat, causing discomfort for residents. Other cities, including Varanasi, Prayagraj, Sultanpur, Hamirpur, and Agra also recorded maximum temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius, leaving people distressed due to the humid and oppressive weather conditions.
