Tajikistan, Kuwait mark 30 years of fruitful ties of friendship, fraternity
KUWAIT CITY, March 22: Dean of the Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of Tajikistan to Kuwait Zubaydullah Zubaydov said the holy month of Ramadan and the spring holiday (Nowruz) this year coincide with Tajikistan's celebration of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations with Kuwait marking 30 years of cooperation, friendship and joint work in political, economic and cultural fields. In a speech during the Ramadan Ghabqa he organized at the embassy, Zubaydov stressed 'We have built bridges of trust and mutual respect. The scope of understanding has expanded in regional and international forums, in addition to strengthening trade and investment partnerships.
Today, as we celebrate this achievement, we look forward to further strengthening our integrated relations and intensifying our efforts to achieve stability, peace and prosperity for our people. Our collective celebration of these auspicious occasions demonstrates the pivotal role that lofty humanitarian principles play in advancing peace and development in the world. The values we draw from Ramadan and the spring festival 'Nowruz' urge us to unite and demonstrate true solidarity in facing common challenges.'
He confirmed the commitment to continue the close cooperation between Tajikistan and Kuwait in regional and international forums while enhancing coordination to achieve stability, security, and sustainable development. He extended his deepest thanks and appreciation to the Kuwaiti government and people for the warm welcome and generous hospitality he received during his visits to Kuwaiti diwaniyas during the holy month of Ramadan, 'reflecting the depth of the ancient traditions and values of brotherhood and solidarity deeply rooted in the conscience of this generous country.' He explained that Nowruz is an international holiday celebrated by the United Nations, pointing out that the conjunction of Ramadan with Nowruz increases the joy of the meeting and gives it unique spiritual and cultural dimensions. Nowruz is the holiday of the arrival of the spring season in many agricultural societies and the beginning of the harvest season traditionally. It is celebrated internationally on March 21 of each year, as declared by the United Nations in honor of its ancient history and humanitarian dimensions.

Five countries win seats on the UN Security Council
UNITED NATIONS, June 4, (AP): Five countries won seats on the United Nations Security Council on Tuesday in uncontested elections and will start serving two-year terms in January on the UN's most powerful but deeply divided body. The 193-member General Assembly held a secret-ballot vote for the five rotating seats on the 15-member council. Bahrain received 186 votes, Congo 183 votes, Liberia 181 votes, Colombia 180 votes and Latvia 178 votes. This will be the first time on the council for Latvia, which was forcibly incorporated into the Soviet Union and gained independence again after its collapse in 1991. Latvian Foreign Minister Baiba Braže told reporters after the vote her Baltic nation is ready for the responsibility, saying, "Our historical experience puts us in the position to understand, empathize with, and forge partnerships across every region in the world.' "We know the value of freedom,' she said. "We know the fragility of peace and the power of multilateralism to safeguard it.' Braže said Latvia will spare no effort to achieve just and lasting peace in Ukraine and to alleviate suffering in the Middle East, Gaza, Africa and other conflicts around the globe. Bahrain will be the Arab representative on the council, and Foreign Minister Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani said his country's election to the council for a second time reinforces its determination to be "a proactive contributor" to international peace and security. "Our goal is to fortify peace and stability within our region,' Al Zayani said, stressing that resolving the decades-old Palestinian-Israeli conflict is "the cornerstone for achieving peace in the region.' The immediate requirement, he said, is a ceasefire and massive influx of humanitarian aid into Gaza, the release of all hostages taken from Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, and progress toward a two-state solution and "a viable state of Palestine.' The Security Council is mandated in the UN Charter with ensuring international peace and security, but it has failed in the two major conflicts because of the veto power of Russia on Ukraine and the United States. There have been decades of efforts to reform the Security Council to reflect the geopolitical realities of the world in 2025, not of the post-World War II era 80 years ago, when the United Nations was established. But they have all failed. The council still includes five veto-wielding permanent members - the United States, Russia, China, Britain and France - and 10 elected members from the U.N.'s different regional groups. One major failing is the absence of a permanent seat for Africa or Latin America and the Caribbean.

Two Commerce Ministry employees sentenced to 10 years for bribery, abuse of power
KUWAIT CITY, June 4: The Criminal Court, presided over by Counselor Abdulwahab Al-Maili, sentenced two employees of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry—a supervisor and a transaction coordinator—to 10 years in prison each. In addition, they were fined 400,000 Kuwaiti dinars and dismissed from their positions. The court found them guilty of abusing their authority, accepting bribes to overlook commercial violations, and fabricating false violations. Meanwhile, the court exempted a resident from punishment after he confessed to involvement with the defendants. The Ministry of Interior had earlier announced the arrest of the two ministry employees and their accomplice on charges of exploiting their positions, accepting bribes to ignore commercial violations, and fabricating false ones. According to a press release by the General Department of Public Relations and Security Media, law enforcement received intelligence regarding individuals exploiting their roles to accept bribes. After securing legal approval, the suspects were caught red-handed receiving 50,000 Kuwaiti dinars out of an agreed total bribe of 200,000 dinars. The operation, conducted in cooperation with the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, is part of ongoing security efforts to combat corruption and enhance public safety. Authorities emphasized that the suspects have been referred to competent legal bodies for prosecution. Security officials stressed that the law applies equally to all, with no exceptions, and reaffirmed their commitment to pursuing anyone who threatens national security.
