2030 key focus for double-engine PMO in Modi 3.0

As the Narendra Modi-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government marks 11 years in power, the key focus for the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) is not just 2047, the stated target for achieving the goal of Viksit Bharat (developed India), but 2030, which is the 'big planning deadline for important projects', according to an official directly familiar with the matter. Since February, the PMO has been operating for the first time with two full principal secretaries, PK Mishra and Shaktikanta Das. That has effectively doubled the management bandwidth, the person cited above explained. 'Before, the PMO would be able to take a call on something, say in 15 days. But now, with both officers, it is possible to do so in seven days,' explained the person cited above, asking not to be named. Under Modi, especially, the PMO has become front and centre of policy and governance, pushing through key reforms, and overseeing the implementation of important projects. 'The load is too much for one person, quite a few verticals,' said a second person familiar with the work of the PMO. While both officers get involved on major issues, HT learns that other responsibilities have been carefully divided between the two. Agriculture, education, health are the ministries assigned to Das, 68, apart from his areas of expertise –– finance and economy. HT also learns that PK Mishra manages appointments, looking at officers who can man crucial posts. Academic and author of the book PMO: Prime Minister's Office Through the Years, Himanshu Roy, said that the current model was quite similar to Indira Gandhi's PMO where PN Haksar was principal secretary while PN Dhar was secretary. Both men at the time were from Kashmir; interestingly, both Das and Mishra are from Odisha. 'Haksar used to be secretary and that was the senior most position in PMO. When he retired, however, there was a question about which designation suited him best. It was then that this post (of principal secretary) was created and it became the main role, with Dhar becoming secretary,'' said Roy. There was no response to HT's request for a comment from the PMO. A third official, who asked not to be named said, that individuals do not really matter in the system, and that the government itself is constantly evolving with the objective of delivering.

AM/NS India Powers Two of India's Greatest Rail Engineering Marvels: 70% Steel Supply for Chenab Bridge and 100% for Anji Khad Bridge

ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India) has proudly reinforced its role in India's infrastructure transformation by supplying critical steel for two of the country's most iconic railway bridges 70% of flat steel for Chenab Bridge, the world's highest railway bridge, and 100% of steel for the Anji Khad Bridge, India's first cable-stayed railway bridge. The dedication of the iconic Anji and Chenab bridges by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi marks a significant step in realizing the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047. These engineering marvels truly showcase India's will and capacity to build a new future. AM/NS India is humbled and proud to have contributed to these vital infrastructure projects by supplying world-class steel, powering India's journey forward. AM/NS India supplied 25,000 MT of high-strength structural steel, accounting for 70% of the total steel used in the Chenab Bridge. This included specialised steel grades for different components, high-strength steel for the arch and tailored grades for the pillars, a feat accomplished for the first time in India at this scale. Manufactured at flagship Hazira facility, the steel was produced under tightly controlled parameters and subjected to rigorous quality checks by third-party agencies. These efforts ensured the material's durability, rust resistance, and suitability for the bridge's extreme altitude and seismic zone. For the Anji Khad Bridge, AM/NS India supplied approximately 7,000 metric tonnes of customised fabricated steel structures, meeting 100% of the bridge's steel requirement. The steel was produced at the Hazira facility and tailored to meet the bridge's unique structural and environmental demands. To ensure durability and long life, the steel was manufactured under controlled parameters and inspected by third-party agencies with stringent quality standards. The fabrication was carried out almost entirely in-house, with augmented facilities to handle the complexity of the design. With Precision Planning and Agile Execution, AM/NS India implemented several innovations to enhance precision execution. This included optimised production planning across its facilities to meet specific requirements and timelines, integrated with an agile supply chain management to manage potential disruptions and maintain material flow. These contributions reflect AM/NS India's unwavering commitment to nation-building and its ability to deliver complex, high-performance steel solutions under challenging conditions. On the success of completing two of India's Greatest Rail Engineering Marvels, Ranjan Dhar, Director and Vice President, Sales & Marketing, ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India (AM/NS India), said: 'This initiative by AM/NS India stands as a true testament to the vision of 'Viksit Bharat'. The Chenab and Anji Khad Bridge is not just an engineering marvel but a symbol of India's advancing self-reliance and industrial strength. Our contribution to this landmark project reflects our deep alignment with the national development goals championed by Hon'ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi.' He added: 'Despite the formidable logistical and infrastructure challenges posed by the remote and mountainous terrain of Jammu & Kashmir, we ensured seamless delivery and execution. By harnessing our capabilities and collaborating with both public and private stakeholders, we are not just building infrastructure, we are shaping a more self-reliant and prosperous India.'

"We'll work multifold to build on a decade of progress:" Manohar Lal Khattar on vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047

New Delhi [India], June 10 (ANI): Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khatter, on Tuesday, outlined the Modi government's vision for the year 2047. He emphasised the government's significant strides in economic and infrastructural development over the past decade. During the press conference, Khattar said, 'The Modi govt has completed 11 years, and with the targets set, we have 22 years left to achieve them. By 2047, we aim for a Viksit Bharat, and in the coming years, we'll work multifold, building on the progress made in the last decade. Viksit Bharat means reaching a significant global stature. To boost the economy, we need to enhance trade, industries, living standards, and the power sector, which plays a crucial role in driving all sectors.' Earlier, marking the occasion, the Union government also released a comprehensive e-book detailing achievements across various sectors over the past 11 years. The year 2025 marks 11 years of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government. The book said that these 11 years have been dedicated to bringing about development that is inclusive, progressive, and sustainable. 'The government under Prime Minister Modi has been steadfast in its commitment to creating equity and opportunity for all citizens,' it added. 'PM Modi has brought the politics of development - Vikasvaad into the mainstream, making it the focal point around which political discourse and policy action now revolve,' it reads. Meanwhile, highlighting the growth in the power sector, Khattar noted, 'If I talk about the numbers, in 2013-14, the peak demand for power was 130 gigawatts, and in 2024-25, it reached 250 gigawatts - almost double. We expect the peak demand to reach up to 270 gigawatts in 2025-26.' The Union Minister also announced a pioneering initiative to standardize air conditioning temperatures. He stated, 'Regarding air conditioning standards, a new provision is being implemented soon. The temperature standardization for ACs will be set between 20C to 28C, meaning we won't be able to cool below 20C or warm above 28C. This is a first-of-its-kind experiment, aiming to standardize temperature settings.' This came after the persisting heatwave condition across the country. (ANI)
