Rahul urges Telangana CM to enact Rohith Vemula Act
Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and LoP in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to implement the Rohith Vemula Act in Telangana. The proposed legislation, named after the late Dalit scholar Rohith Vemula, aims to prevent caste-based discrimination in educational institutions.
The letter (dated April 17) addressed to Revanth Reddy was shared on the social media platform X by AICC's official account @INCIndia. "The murder of bright young people like Rohith Vemula, Payal Tadvi and Darshan Solanki is simply not acceptable.
It is time to put a firm end to this. I urge the Telangana government to enact the Rohith Vemula Act so that no child of India has to face what Dr BR Ambedkar, Rohith Vemula and millions of others have had to endure," he urged the CM in the letter.
Apart from Telangana, Rahul Gandhi has earlier written to the Chief Ministers of Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh recommending the implementation of the Rohith Vemula Act. While referring to the experience of Ambedkar as 'untouchable', Rahul Gandhi stated that what he faced was shameful and should not be endured by any child in India. 'It is a shame that even today, millions of students from Dalit, Adivasi and OBC communities have to face such brutal discrimination in our educational system,' he pointed out.
Meanwhile, All India OBC Students Association (AIOBCSA) taking credit for the development reminded how the Association has brought to the attention of Rahul Gandhi and highlighted the seriousness of the issues of caste discrimination and violations of reservation policies, during their meeting with Congress leader in Parliament.
During the meeting with AIOBCSA leaders Rahul Gandhi stated, 'Until every student receives dignity, safety, and equal opportunities without any form of discrimination, our education system cannot be considered just and fair for all. After writing to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, I have also written to Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Telangana CM Revanth Reddy, urging them to implement the Rohith Vemula Act.' The Congress Party is fully committed to ensuring equal access to education for every child and to eradicating caste-based discrimination from India, he said.
'We sincerely thank Rahul Gandhi on behalf of AIOBCSA for his proactive response and support on this crucial issue,' said G Kiran Kumar, Association's national president.

The updated list confirms that the number of test cities has been expanded to 233, ahead of the entrance test scheduled for August 3, 2025. Candidates will now be required to resubmit their preferred exam cities from June 13, 2025 (3 PM) to June 17, 2025 (11:55 PM) via the official portal. NBEMS has clarified that the city allotment process will operate on a first-come-first-serve basis, depending on candidate priority and availability.

Congress in damage control mode over Satheesan's Jamaat remarks
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As leader of opposition V D Satheesan's attempt to 'whitewash' Jamaat-e-Islami, backfired politically in Nilambur, the Congress has started damage control efforts. KPCC president Sunny Joseph has met powerful Muslim and Christian leaders in this regard. The move comes days before the visit of Congress general secretary and Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi to Nilambur which is part of her LS constituency. Sunny Joseph, who is close to Thamarassery Bishop Remigiose Inchananiyil, met the latter on Friday. The meeting came after the Catholic Congress under the powerful Thamarassery Diocese issued a strong statement against Congress - Welfare Party tie-up. Bawankule meets protesting Bachchu Kadu, Cong backs his stir
Nagpur/Amravati: Guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Friday met ex-MLA Bachchu Kadu at Amravati and urged him to end his indefinite fast, which has continued for six days now. On Friday, the Congress also threw its weight behind Kadu's ongoing agitation for farmers, just a day after NCP (Sharad) MLA Rohit Pawar drove down to the Amravati protest site where Kadu is on indefinite fast. Earlier this week, Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange, and ex-minister Anil Deshmukh too met Kadu. Bawankule's visit to Kadu is seen as an important development as the monsoon session of the legislature is scheduled from June 30. Earlier on Friday, high drama unfolded at the protest site, when a member of Kadu's Prahar Janshakti Party consumed poison, and was rushed to the hospital by the medical team present on site. The activist, identified as Ajay Bhagwatrao Chaudhary, has been admitted to a private hospital at Warud. Chaudhary, like many other Prahar activists, had turned restless on Friday citing 'government's apathy' towards Kadu's Annatyag Andolan, now into its sixth day, at Gurukunj Mozari (about 30km from Amravati city). Kadu's agitation raises issues related to farmers, divyangs, widows, fishermen etc. Before Bawankule's visit too the govt has tried to persuade Kadu to withdraw the agitation.
