Taskmaster creator Alex Horne hosts competition at care home
Taskmaster creator Alex Horne hosted a competition inspired by the Channel 4 TV show at a care home in Oxfordshire.
The 46-year-old comedian visited a care home in Adderbury where he set a series of challenges that saw four residents compete against each other.
The tasks included identifying everything related to pineapples and residents closing their eyes and raising their hand when they thought one minute had passed.
The competitors also had a plate of sweets they had to transfer to another plate with only a straw, with the final task involving residents building the tallest tower using spaghetti and marshmallows.
'I've done Taskmaster with kids in schools, stags and hens in pubs, boys and girls in scout huts, executives in offices and over a hundred comedians on telly over the last 10 years, but this was perhaps the most memorable task session for me,' said Horne.
'The four contestants were as competitive as anyone I've tested before, and they demonstrated different ways of lateral thinking, as well as some creative interpretations of my rules.'
Resident Ruth Johnson, aged 100, said: 'At first I didn't know what was expected of us, and I wondered what we'd need to do with all of that spaghetti.
'Alex was so nice. I thought I had met him before, but I think I just knew him from the television.'
Wojciech Kuczkowski, general manager at Seccombe Court, said: 'The residents love to watch Taskmaster and we wanted to give them a chance to take on the challenges for themselves.
'All four competitors did an amazing job, and it was great to see their competitive spirits come out. I'd like to extend a big thank you to Alex for joining us and hosting our challenge.'
The original version of Taskmaster was created by Horne as a live show for the 2010 Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
It first aired on UKTV's Dave in 2015 before moving to Channel 4 in 2019.
The comedy gameshow sees five celebrities compete in a series of bizarre challenges presented to them by the Taskmaster Greg Davies, with Horne as his assistant.

Manning Walker is exec producing, directing and co-writing Major Players with Yasmin Joseph, who wrote on Disney+'s A Thousand Blows and A24-Apple's upcoming Husbands starring Juno Temple. Joseph is also working with A24 on an unannounced Netflix project. Manning Walker's stock has soared since How to Have Sex, which starred Mia McKenna-Bruce as one of three teen best friends who encounter new friendships, sexual pressures and self-discovery during a holiday. The Film4 movie won the Cannes Un Certain Regard 2023 and earned two BAFTA nominations. Major Players is her first TV series. Ollie Madden Exiting Film4/Channel 4 To Join Netflix As Director Of UK Film; Farhana Bhula & Gwawr Lloyd Upped At UK Broadcaster
Ollie Madden, Director of Film4 and Channel 4 Drama, is leaving the broadcaster after an eight-year stint to join Netflix as Director Of UK Film. The news was relayed to Channel 4 staff this morning via a memo, which you can read below. Madden is leaving in October. He will also develop a handful of filmmaker-led series. Teresa Moneo, the Netflix vet who served as Director, International Original Film, and had assumed the head of UK film role since last year, quietly left the streamer earlier this year but will continue to work with them on Peaky Blinders. Back at Film4/C4, Farhana Bhula, Film4's Head of Creative and Deputy Director, will take over as interim Director of Film4 effective from 1st July. Bhula and Lloyd will oversee their respective teams alone but will work together to maximise talent relationships and will co-exec Molly Manning-Walker's new show with A24, which we announced yesterday. It's a time of flux and challenge at Film4/C4. Madden's exit comes just one month after news that Channel 4 boss Alex Mahon would also be stepping down after eight years at the helm. Channel 4's content chief Ian Katz admitted to his team at the end of April that his own future was uncertain. In recent years the broadcaster has had to contend with more than 250 layoffs, further moves to digital and the channels' relocation out of London. More recently, plans to grow an in-house production business have ruffled feathers, while latest annual results showed a decline in content spend but a surge in executive pay. Madden's combined film and TV role was an unusual one in the business. Bhula and Lloyd now return to a more traditional structure. It has been a meteoric rise for the former in particular. Bhula worked in development and production at UK indies between 2012-2019 but has scaled the ranks in six years since then to assume one of Europe's top film industry posts. Madden continued Film4's impressive history of awards contenders and critical hits. His slate included Oscar-winning films Poor Things, The Zone of Interest and The Favourite. His series commissions were just starting to really ramp up and include work from writers such as Russell T Davies, Jack Thorne, Daisy Haggard, Roy Williams, Caroline O'Donoghue and James Graham. The drama division had been relatively quiet for a period but suddenly found its stride in the past year with a string of buzzy commissions that will now mostly air under new leadership. Sony's Wayne Garvie Roasts 'Ridiculous' Channel 4 In-House Plan: 'It Could Be Potentially Disastrous'
The new Channel 4 in-house productions biz is 'preposterous,' 'ridiculous' and 'potentially disastrous' for the nation's irreverent public broadcaster, according to Sony international boss Wayne Garvie. Garvie did not hold back at the Deloitte Conference this morning when queried over the future in-house biz, which is currently seeking a boss. 'Those of us who run in-house production businesses know how difficult it is,' said Garvie, who oversees the likes of Doctor Who, Industry and Sex Education via Sony labels. 'If you're starting out and you don't own IP and have no institutional knowledge of how to run a production business it could be potentially disastrous for Channel 4.' Garvie variously described the plan, which came in after Channel 4 avoided privatization and will allow it to own IP for the first time in its 40-year history, as 'ridiculous' and 'preposterous.' Last month, Channel 4 said it plans to take majority stakes in third-party production companies as part of the plan to move into in-house production. Jonathan Allan, Channel 4's COO and incoming interim CEO, declined to reveal the value of the company's indie investment war chest. Channel 4 has cash reserves of £111M ($150M). 'You lose money after the first three years,' added Garvie today. 'Maybe you make money in five years if you have great people but not money that will help Channel 4 really grow.' Instead, he said Channel 4 should be thinking in a blue sky way about how it can combine with the BBC. 'We have five PSBs here in Britain, most other countries have one,' added Garvie. 'The future surely is the BBC and Channel 4 coming together and that should be focus of the new chair of Channel 4 and its CEO.'
