
Mari Energies announces first gas discovery at Soho-1 well in Sindh
Mari Energies Limited, formerly Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MARI), has discovered gas production from its Soho-1 exploratory well in the Sujawal Block located in Sindh.
The E&P, which is the operator of Sujawal Block with 100% working interest, disclosed the development in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Friday.
'Mari Energies Limited is pleased to announce a gas discovery at Soho-1 exploratory well drilled in the Sujawal Block, located in Sujawal district, Sindh,' read the notice.
The company shared that it tested gas production at two different choke sizes.
At 64/64' choke, the well produced 30.01 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of gas at a pressure of 1,482.5 psi. Meanwhile, at 32/64' choke, it flowed 18.84 MMSCFD at a much higher pressure of 3,447.8 psi.

The company shared that further testing of the additional targeted formations is underway to fully evaluate the well's potential.
'It is pertinent to mention that this is the first gas discovery in the Lower Goru (Massive Sand) in the Sujawal Block and has opened a new avenue for exploration in the Massive Sands after several failures in the region,' it added.
In March, Mari Energies Limited commenced hydrocarbon production from Shewa discovery in Waziristan Block located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
As per the company's latest financial results, MARI posted a profit-after-tax (PAT) of Rs11.17 billion in the second quarter of fiscal year 2025 (2QFY25), a decline of over 39% year-on-year (YoY) compared to PAT of Rs18.36 billion in the same period of the previous year.
The decline in profit was attributed to lower revenue and higher expenses incurred during the period.

Seven new exploration blocks: OGDCL secures provisional award
ISLAMABAD: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), the country's leading exploration and production company, has been provisionally awarded seven new exploration blocks through a competitive bidding round held by the Government of Pakistan in April 2025. The Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) has communicated the provisional award of new exploration blocks to OGDCL and its joint venture partners, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL), Pakistan Oilfields Limited (POL), Mari Energies Limited (Mari), Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL), Turkish Petroleum Overseas Company (TPOC), and Prime Global Energies Limited (Prime). These blocks have been awarded based on the work units committed by OGDCL and its joint venture partners, subject to formal execution of Exploration Licenses and Petroleum Concession Agreements (PCAs). OGDCL has secured 100 percent working interest and operatorship in the Kalat North Block located in Balochistan. The company will also operate the Naing Sharif Block in Sindh with a 70 percent working interest, partnered by Prime with a 30 percent share. In Punjab, OGDCL will act as operator of the Khiu-II Block, holding 60 percent working interest, while Mari holds the remaining 40 percent. OGDCL has also secured a 40 percent working interest in the Ahmad Wal Block in Balochistan, where Mari will serve as the operator with a 60 percent working interest. In the Kalat South Block, also in Balochistan, OGDCL secured a 30 percent share, with PPL acting as the operator with 40 percent interest and Mari holding 30 percent. In Sindh's Sukhpur-II Block, OGDCL has a 30 percent stake, alongside Prime (25pc, operator), Mari (30pc), and TPOC (15pc). In the Ziarat North block in Balochistan, OGDCL secured a 24.87 percent working interest, with Mari acting as operator with 33.16 percent, and PPL, GHPL, and TPOC holding 24.87 percent, 7.10 percent, and 10 percent respectively. These awards mark a significant step forward in OGDCL's strategy and business plan to strengthen its core exploration portfolio and accelerate efforts to augment the country's hydrocarbon reserves. DGPC provisionally awards 10 onshore exploration blocks to MariEnergies
The Directorate General of Petroleum Concessions (DGPC) has provisionally awarded 10 new onshore exploration blocks to MariEnergies, one of Pakistan's largest exploration and production (E&P) companies. 'These blocks have been awarded after competitive bidding on the basis of work units committed by various E&P companies in the Pakistan E&P Onshore Bid Round 2025 (30th April 2025) conducted by the DGPC,' MARI said in its notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Wednesday. According to the notice, MARI will operate seven blocks as an operator. At the same time, the remaining three will be developed under joint venture (JV) arrangements— 'one each with Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL), Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) and Prime Global Energies Limited (Prime) as operators in respective blocks'. It added that Government Holdings Pvt Ltd (GHPL) and Turkish Petroleum Overseas Company (TPOC) are also JV Partners. Out of the 10 blocks awarded, eight are located in Balochistan, namely, Ziarat North, Ahmad Wal, Padag, Chagai, Dalbandin, Merui Merui West and Kalat South. The remaining two, i.e. Khiu-II and Sukhpur-II, are located in Punjab and Sindh, respectively.
