Football: Ueda nets 6th goal of season as Feyenoord hammer Zwolle
KYODO NEWS - 2 hours ago - 12:42 | Sports, All
Japan forward Ayase Ueda scored his sixth goal of the season in the Dutch Eredivisie on Friday as Feyenoord eased past Zwolle 4-0 at home.
Ueda netted the 14th-minute opener at De Kuip, lifting his left-footed shot past Zwolle keeper Jasper Schendelaar after he was played through by Jakub Moder.
"I had the keeper in my peripheral vision while on the run and managed to shoot just as I imagined," Ueda said.
A mistake by the keeper then allowed Antoni Milambo to double the lead in the 22nd minute. Igor Paixao rolled home three minutes later and curled in his second with 11 minutes to go to complete the scoring.
"There are loads of things expected of me apart from scoring goals," said Ueda, who made his presence felt throughout the match. "I've been plugging away in achieving each of those and things are finally starting to take shape."
The sixth straight win placed Robin van Persie's side third on the table, 11 points behind leaders Ajax, as they look to secure qualification for next season's Champions League.

Football: Kamada, Kubo spur Japan to big win over Indonesia
KYODO NEWS - 5 hours ago - 22:40 | Sports, All Daichi Kamada netted a brace, and match-day captain Takefusa Kubo was also among the scorers Tuesday as Japan concluded their Asian World Cup qualifiers with a 6-0 thrashing of Indonesia. The Samurai Blue, who booked their ticket to the 2026 World Cup with three matches to spare, finished on top of qualifying Group C with seven wins, two draws and one defeat. Japan manager Hajime Moriyasu continued to experiment with his lineup after starting an untested side in Thursday's 1-0 loss to Australia, handing the captain's armband to the 24-year-old Kubo. Crystal Palace midfielder Kamada opened the scoring at a rainy Panasonic Stadium in Suita, Osaka Prefecture, when he headed in Shunsuke Mito's cross from the left in the 15th minute. Kubo doubled the margin with a stylish finish four minutes later, intercepting a deflected ball and chipping high into the net from close range. The Real Sociedad star set up Kamada to tap home his second in injury time, giving the Samurai Blue a 3-0 halftime lead. After starting on the right, winger Ryoya Morishita of Polish outfit Legia Warszawa found the net early in the second half for his first international goal, which was quickly followed by a Shuto Machino strike that made it 5-0. Mao Hosoya completed the scoring off the bench in the 80th minute. "The players' efforts led to this result," said Moriyasu, who has set the ambitious target of winning the World Cup, to be hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States next summer. "There is still a lot we need to learn and improve, both the players and the team as a whole." Indonesia, coached by former Netherlands international Patrick Kluivert, finished fourth in the group with three wins, three draws and four losses. Baseball: Yusei Kikuchi hurls 1-hit gem as Angels see off Athletics
KYODO NEWS - 1 hour ago - 15:02 | Sports, All Yusei Kikuchi threw 7-1/3 innings of one-hit ball in his longest start this year as the Los Angeles Angels held on to beat the Athletics 7-4 on Monday. Kikuchi (2-5) had six 1-2-3 innings in a 104-pitch gem to earn the win at Angel Stadium, allowing his only hit to Max Muncy with one out in the fifth inning when he also issued his solitary walk. "I managed to use all my pitches extremely well, and getting to pitch into the eighth was huge," Kikuchi said. Zach Neto, Nolan Schanuel and Mike Trout hit back-to-back RBI singles in the third and Jo Adell's solo home run in the fourth handed the Angels and Kikuchi a 4-0 lead. The lefty had his fifth and last strikeout in the eighth and got the hook before reliever Connor Brogdon gave up two runs in the frame. The Angels scored three important runs in the home half on a Trout sacrifice fly and Adell's two-run single as the Athletics scored two runs off Shaun Anderson in the ninth. "I'm not thinking too much about myself picking up a win," Kikuchi said. "The bottom line is winning a game lifts the team, and that's what I'm happy with."
