Cameron Brink set to make return for Sparks on Tuesday vs. Aces, more than a year after tearing ACL
Brink told reporters on Saturday that she was medically cleared, but was ramping up a bit before playing. The center was originally questionable for Saturday's game against the New York Liberty, and traveled with the team to New York before being eventually ruled out.
On Monday, Brink spoke to John W. Davis of the Long Beach Press-Telegram during practice. When asked if she was planning on playing on Tuesday, Brink said that she was.
"It means the world," Brink said. "I'm just very excited, very humbled by this experience. It's no easy thing to come back from."
Brink was carried off the court during a loss to the Connecticut Sun on June 18, 2024. The team confirmed the next day that Brink had torn her ACL.
"You never think it will happen to you," Brink wrote on Instagram after the injury was announced. "And despite all the hard work sometimes it does. This is hard to fathom, but I know it will only make me stronger."
Now, Brink is launching her comeback arc, though she understands that it won't come all at once. Brink told Davis that she tends to lean on her defense, and said that she expects that to be stronger as she returns to full strength.
"Just giving myself patience on offense, knowing that it'll come eventually. Both will need some work, for sure," she said.
Even as she still builds back to her peak, Brink's defensive prowess will be a major boost for the Sparks, who currently sit in 10th place with a 11-14 record. Although L.A.'s offense has been much better this year — the Sparks currently average the third-highest points per game in the league — they have struggled on rebounds (third worst in the WNBA) and turnovers (second most).
With that said, the Sparks are on a hot streak as of late: L.A. has won five straight games, including a thrilling walkoff win over the Liberty on Saturday.

Seattle Storm guard Skylar Diggins records quickest triple-double in WNBA history
After recording the first triple-double in WNBA All-Star Game history on July 19, Seattle Storm guard Skylar Diggins made more history on Monday. She became the second player in Storm history to record a triple-double -- and she did it in three quarters. Diggins's two free throws at the end of the third quarter gave her 11 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists in 22:51 of action, the lowest minute total for a triple-double in WNBA history. Temeka Johnson recorded the Storm's other triple-double with 13 points, 11 assists and 10 rebounds in an overtime loss to the New York Liberty in 2014. Diggins is the fourth player in the league to amass a triple-double this season. Diggins did not play in the fourth quarter as the Storm defeated the Connecticut Sun 101-85. Seattle had led by as many as 32. Diggins' triple-double the 46th in WNBA history. Alyssa Thomas has 16, the most in WNBA history. Only eight players have multiple triple-doubles in their careers.

Azzi Fudd wore adorable custom Paige Bueckers shirt to support her girlfriend
Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers and her girlfriend, Azzi Fudd, hard-launched their relationship earlier this year, and now they've treated everyone to adorable things ― like custom shirts. In case you're unaware, Bueckers confirmed the pair were dating during WNBA All-Star weekend after years of speculation. There were murmurs about the former UConn Huskies teammates before then, but nothing anywhere close to official until Fudd sent fans into a frenzy in June with a "Paige Bueckers' Girlfriend" phone case she sneakily dropped in an Instagram story. Now, Fudd is continuing her somewhat quiet but intentionally noticeable support of her girlfriend by not only showing up to her WNBA games, but rocking some custom Bueckers-themed apparel. On Monday, Fudd was in attendance for a Liberty-Wings matchup wearing a lovely "I [heart] P.B." shirt with coordinating pants. How sweet is that? We can't wait to see more of Pazzi ― that's what the kids are calling them these days ― in the future.
