Jayasuriya decimates Bangladesh as Sri Lanka win by innings and 78 runs
Bangladesh lost six wickets within 33 runs as their batters were unable to repeat the heroics that secured a draw in the first test in Galle on Colombo's spin-friendly track.
"There was a difference between (the) two matches ... that's a good morale booster for us, losing the toss and putting the opposition under pressure," Sri Lanka captain Dhananjaya de Silva said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
After Bangladesh posted 247 in their first innings, opener Pathum Nissanka scored 158 in a player-of-the-match performance, aided by Dinesh Chandimal (93) and Kusal Mendis (84) as Sri Lanka secured a commanding 211-run lead with a total of 458.
Anamul Haque (19) tried to give Bangladesh a fast start in the second innings but fell to Asitha Fernando (1-22), while his opening partner Shadam Islam (12) mistimed a cover drive and got caught just three balls later as Jayasuriya (5-56) took his first wicket of the match.
De Silva (2-13) trapped fellow skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto, who scored twin centuries in the first test, with a leg before wicket dismissal to leave the visitors reeling at 70-4.
"Very disappointing after how we finished the first Test, the way this one went," Shanto said. "We had opportunities but... always took easy options and made mistakes while batting."
Mushfiqur Rahim (26), Bangladesh's other centurion in the previous match, was the next to fall as he was bowled by Jayasuriya, kicking off a collapse where Bangladesh lost their last five wickets in less than 11 overs.

All Blacks Tuipulotu, Lienert-Brown out of second Argentina test
New Zealand lock Patrick Tuipulotu and centre Anton Lienert-Brown have been ruled out of the second test against Argentina after suffering head knocks in the opener in Cordoba, coach Scott Robertson confirmed on Tuesday. "We have got, obviously, a few big tests in a row and we haven't played for a month," Robertson said. "Some guys need football and they need to play together to get high cohesion ... And you need to give guys opportunities to build depth for now and this rugby cycle."

England's Woakes 'gutted' he could not win single-handedly at Oval
LONDON :All-rounder Chris Woakes is still processing the shock after England fell agonisingly short of a "fairytale" series victory despite his remarkable act of bravery in the fifth and final test against India. India levelled the five-test series 2-2 on Monday after prevailing in the cliffhanger at The Oval by six runs amid high drama in a fitting finale to an all-time classic series. Woakes, who dislocated his shoulder while fielding, himself provided some of the drama when he came out to bat with one arm in sling to try to get England across the line. "I'm still gutted, devastated really, that we couldn't get the fairytale," the 36-year-old told the Guardian newspaper. "But I never considered not going out there, even if it had been 100 runs still to win or whatever. "It was nice to have the ovation and some of the Indian players came over to show their respect. But any other player would have done the same." Woakes looked in pain when running, but did not have to bowl as Gus Atkinson was bowled by India's Mohammed Siraj at the other end. "It's not just you that you're playing for out there," Woakes said. "It's your team and your teammates, all the hard work and the sacrifices they put in, the people watching at home and in the ground. You just feel a duty to do it for everyone." He hurt his shoulder on the opening day of the see-saw test when he landed awkwardly trying to save a boundary, but said he has no regrets. "We chase down every run," Woakes said. "That has always been the way. As a bowler, you really respect guys trying to save every run. It means a lot to you. So you kind of do the same for the team. And a tight game like that one – just six runs the difference – kinda shows how they all add up."

Injured NZ skipper Latham to miss second test against Zimbabwe
New Zealand captain Tom Latham has been ruled out of the second test against Zimbabwe after failing to recover from a shoulder injury, New Zealand Cricket said on Wednesday. Latham missed the opening test last week, with Mitch Santner stepping in to lead the side to a nine-wicket victory. Santner will continue to skipper the team after Latham failed a fitness test ahead of the second match of the two-test series starting on Thursday in Bulawayo. "It's hugely disappointing to lose Tom again," coach Rob Walter said in a statement. "He's been working hard and had been tracking well towards the second test but unfortunately today he couldn't pass his fitness tests. He's extremely gutted he won't be able to take the park and we're really feeling for him."
