Instagram reel lands newly enrolled Kerala advocate in trouble, BCK issues show-cause notice
KOCHI: A moment of pride turned into a moment of peril for a newly enrolled LLB student. After securing his enrolment in June, the student celebrated the milestone with a slickly edited video capturing the occasion.
However, one creative choice — including a visual of a High Court judge's official vehicle and number plate — backfired. Later, this sparked a row, prompting the Bar Council of Kerala to issue him a showcause notice.
The BCK chairman stated that there is a growing trend of taking photos and videos on High Court premises after enrolment and uploading them on social media platforms. As a result, the BCK has issued a circular cautioning all newly enrolled advocates.
In the notice to the advocate from Thrissur, who uploaded the controversial reel, the BCK stated that a video is widely circulated on WhatsApp and other social media platforms showing the official vehicle of a judge of the Kerala High Court and then other visuals of the enrolment function.
'The video amounts to advertising and soliciting, which is demeaning to the dignity of the judiciary. The intention of the usage of visuals of the official vehicle of a judge is ill-motivated and mischievous against the judiciary,' stated the notice.
The Bar Council of Kerala is prima facie of the impression that the acts of the advocate amount to misconduct and would be liable to be proceeded under Section 35 of the Advocates Act. Hence, a showcause notice is issued against him to explain why action should not be initiated against him.

As part of the nationwide rollout of its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered fraud detection system, Airtel has blocked over 1,80,000 malicious links and safeguarded more than 3 million users across the State. Automatically enabled for all Airtel mobile and broadband customers, the advanced system scans and filters links across SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, Instagram, e-mail, and other browsers. It leverages real-time threat intelligence to examine over 1 billion URLs daily and blocks access to harmful sites in under 100 milliseconds, said the Airtel in a press release. For instance, if a resident in Salem receives a suspicious message that reads: 'Your package is delayed. Track it here: And if the unsuspecting resident then clicks on the link, Airtel's system also clicks into gear. It instantly scans the link and if flagged as suspicious, it blocks access. The user is redirected to a warning message that reads: 'Blocked! Airtel found this site dangerous!' All this instantaneously. This real-time interception prevents users from falling victim to all kinds of frauds. Tarun Virmani, CEO-Tamil Nadu and Kerala, Bharti Airtel, said that at a time when digital threats were becoming more advanced and widespread, the need for a strong and dependable secure mobile network was more essential than ever. Commenting at the event, Sandeep Mittal, Additional Director General of Police, Cyber Crime Wing, said: 'We are pleased that the Airtel team informed us and offered a comprehensive overview of their initiative for fraud detection solutions, detailing its goals and operational methodology.'

Conmen siphon 21L from New Town man
Kolkata: A New Town resident fell victim to a cyber investment fraud, losing Rs 21,40,700 through a modus operandi that mimicked legitimate financial services. The scam started when Bhanja Kishore Mohanty, a resident of Action Area-III, clicked an Instagram link that eventually added him to a WhatsApp group aimed at "wealth generation". The group was allegedly led by one Ashish Kehair, who claimed to be the managing director, with an assistant named Kangna Sharma, the managing operations. The fraudsters orchestrated an elaborate scheme involving block trading, preferential allotments, and IPO investments. To establish credibility, they allowed Mohanty to withdraw Rs 2,000 early in the scheme. Between April 7 and May 21, Mohanty made multiple investments. The fraud came to light when he attempted to withdraw Rs 5 lakh on May 5 after a supposed IPO sale. A similar withdrawal attempt on May 22 led to the same result. "The withdrawal was rejected, and the scammers demanded an additional 'commission' of Rs 29 lakh followed by a 'subscription service charge' of Rs 28 lakh," said a cop. "They asked me to pay upfront and refused to adjust them against my invested funds," said Mohanty. "When I questioned this, they stopped responding."

Kerala HC Grants Bail To Six Juveniles Accused Of Murdering 15-Year-Old
New Delhi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday granted bail to six juveniles accused in the murder of 15-year-old Shahabas, even as the victim's father strongly expressed his ire against the decision and said he will fight the case. This bail comes a week after the High Court directed the Superintendent of Observation Home, Kozhikode, to take steps to enable the admission of these accused juveniles in the Shahabas murder case in other schools. On Wednesday, Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas passed the order granting bail and permitted their release from the Kozhikode Observation Home on the personal bond of their parents. While granting bail, the court pointed out that observation homes are not meant for prolonged detention, especially when the juveniles have no prior criminal records. It also asked the parents to submit affidavits and made it clear that the juveniles must cooperate with the ongoing investigation and refrain from engaging in any criminal activity. Shahabas's father said till now, he has not spoken anything, but after hearing what happened today, he will now speak out on the injustice meted out to him. The High Court, last month, came to the help of these juveniles after their results were withheld by the state government. Following the intervention of the court, state Education Minister V. Sivankutty announced their Class 10 marks, with all having passed and being cleared for higher studies. Shahabas, a student of MJ Higher Secondary School, Thamarassery, Kozhikode, succumbed to serious injuries on March 1, after being injured in the fight between the students of his school and Thamarassery GVHSS, stemming from a dispute at a tuition centre farewell event at the end of February. Even though the teachers intervened then through a series of WhatsApp messages, the tension escalated, leading to a violent clash near the tuition centre. Shahabas suffered serious head injuries, which led to his death. Police pressed murder charges against them and stated that the accused used weapons, including a truncheon and a nunchaku, for the attack on Shahabas. Though Shahabas was not a student at the tuition centre, he was called to the venue while running an errand. Following the attack, he was taken home by a friend. Initially unaware of the attack, his family suspected drug use when they found him in a weak state at home. Upon learning the truth, he was rushed to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital and later shifted to Kozhikode Government Medical College and Hospital, where he passed away. All the accused students since then have been in judicial custody, and also appeared for their examination while in custody.
