Kerala HC Grants Bail To Six Juveniles Accused Of Murdering 15-Year-Old
New Delhi: The Kerala High Court on Wednesday granted bail to six juveniles accused in the murder of 15-year-old Shahabas, even as the victim's father strongly expressed his ire against the decision and said he will fight the case.
This bail comes a week after the High Court directed the Superintendent of Observation Home, Kozhikode, to take steps to enable the admission of these accused juveniles in the Shahabas murder case in other schools.
On Wednesday, Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas passed the order granting bail and permitted their release from the Kozhikode Observation Home on the personal bond of their parents.
While granting bail, the court pointed out that observation homes are not meant for prolonged detention, especially when the juveniles have no prior criminal records.
It also asked the parents to submit affidavits and made it clear that the juveniles must cooperate with the ongoing investigation and refrain from engaging in any criminal activity.
Shahabas's father said till now, he has not spoken anything, but after hearing what happened today, he will now speak out on the injustice meted out to him.
The High Court, last month, came to the help of these juveniles after their results were withheld by the state government.
Following the intervention of the court, state Education Minister V. Sivankutty announced their Class 10 marks, with all having passed and being cleared for higher studies.
Shahabas, a student of MJ Higher Secondary School, Thamarassery, Kozhikode, succumbed to serious injuries on March 1, after being injured in the fight between the students of his school and Thamarassery GVHSS, stemming from a dispute at a tuition centre farewell event at the end of February.
Even though the teachers intervened then through a series of WhatsApp messages, the tension escalated, leading to a violent clash near the tuition centre.
Shahabas suffered serious head injuries, which led to his death.
Police pressed murder charges against them and stated that the accused used weapons, including a truncheon and a nunchaku, for the attack on Shahabas.
Though Shahabas was not a student at the tuition centre, he was called to the venue while running an errand.
Following the attack, he was taken home by a friend. Initially unaware of the attack, his family suspected drug use when they found him in a weak state at home.
Upon learning the truth, he was rushed to Thamarassery Taluk Hospital and later shifted to Kozhikode Government Medical College and Hospital, where he passed away.
All the accused students since then have been in judicial custody, and also appeared for their examination while in custody.

No construction till GHMC nod: Telangana high court to Jubilee Hills Club
1 2 Hyderabad: The Telangana high court on Thursday directed the Jubilee Hills International Centre (popularly known as Jubilee Hills Club) to stop all ongoing construction at their premises till it gets building permission from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation ( GHMC ). Justice B Vijaysen Reddy gave the interim direction while hearing a petition filed by P Venugopal and N Srinivas of Jubilee Hills questioning the inaction of GHMC despite bringing to their notice the unauthorised construction at the club in survey no. 403/1, Road No.14, Jubilee Hills. Senior counsel V Ravi Kiran Rao, appearing for the petitioners, said the club was building a huge banquet hall without permission from GHMC or no-objection certificate (NOC) from fire authorities. "The club management is not responding to the notices of the GHMC officials and authorities are not taking up the issue with the required seriousness," he said. GHMC counsel Midde Arun Kumar informed the court that they had issued a show cause notice which did not yield any response. He said that the deputy commissioner then passed a speaking order directing the club to demolish the unauthorised structure on its own or face the consequences. "Now, the club management has applied for a building permission and officials are examining the record," he said. Ravi Kiran said this was proof of the audacity of the club management which applied for permission only after they were left with no option and, hence, the GHMC should not process their current application. "Otherwise, they will never follow the law," he said. Advocate on record A Raghuram said the governing council of the club was going to the extent of harassing the petitioners with FIRs for playing the role of a whistleblower and alerting authorities about the illegal structure without setbacks, parking space and fire safety measures. Sonam made 30 calls to lover in week leading up to husband's killing
Lucknow: Investigations into the murder of Indore's Raja Raghuvanshi have revealed that his wife Sonam was in regular touch with her lover Raj Kushwaha on phone till her husband's murder on May 23. In all, Sonam made 30 calls between May 16 and 23 to Raj Kushwaha, some lasting barely 30 seconds while some of a minute's duration. The calls were made at odd hours and the two exchanged messages through WhatsApp and other app-based messaging facilities almost round the clock. Call detail records (CDRs) accessed by the investigators confirm a pattern of frequent, strategic communication. Police are currently analysing message backups, app data, and location histories to establish the full extent of the conspiracy and premeditation behind the murder plot. Sources said the digital trail confirms that Sonam began coordinating with Raj on May 15, the same day the two allegedly met at a café near her home in Nandbagh, Indore—just four days after her wedding to Raja. Investigators believe this sustained digital contact was not mere communication but a carefully planned conspiracy. Police allege that Sonam paid ₹50,000 to Raj Kushwaha to fund the travel of three men—Vishal, Akash, and Anand—tasked with following the newlywed couple to Shillong. The accused trio reportedly left Indore between May 17 and 18, travelling first to Delhi by train and then boarding the Rajdhani Express to Guwahati. Meanwhile, Sonam and Raja boarded a flight from Indore to Shillong on May 20. During this time, Sonam allegedly kept Kushwaha updated with live location sharing, enabling the accused to track the couple in real-time. Police suspect that this coordination ultimately led to the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi on or around May 23. Investigators are now examining message backups, app data, GPS logs, and deleted files to reconstruct the events leading to the crime and establish the extent of premeditation and criminal conspiracy. Karnataka HC directs release of four accused persons in connection with Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede
BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Thursday ordered the release of four individuals associated with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) victory celebration event who were arrested following the stampede at Chinnaswamy Stadium on June 4. The tragic incident claimed 11 lives and injured over 50 people. The four people released are Nikhil Sosale, Marketing and Revenue Head of Royal Challengers Sports Private Limited (RCSPL); Sunil Mathew, Director of DNA Networks Private Limited; Kiran Kumar S, Event Manager at DNA Networks; and Shamant N P Mavinakere, a freelancer linked with DNA. Justice S R Krishna Kumar passed the order while hearing their bail petitions. However, the court directed the accused to surrender their passports. A detailed order is yet to be released. The arrests, made on June 6, have drawn criticism from various quarters, and the court's decision is being seen as a setback to the Bengaluru city police and the state government. Public anger has been high over the handling of the stampede, which happened during celebrations of RCB's performance in the IPL.
