North Carolina teenager suffers unimaginable horror while sunbathing at the beach

Daily Mail5 days ago
A 15-year-old girl was hospitalized after a pickup truck performing beach survey work ran over her legs while she was sunbathing on a public beach in Oak Island, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred around 2:11 p.m. on July 14 when Oak Island Public Safety officials responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle operating on the sand between Keziah Street and Womble Street.
The teen, whose identity has not been released, was evaluated on-scene for possible non-life-threatening injuries and later transported to Novant Health Brunswick Medical Center in Bolivia for further evaluation 'out of caution,' officials said.
The vehicle - a 2020 GMC pickup - belongs to TI Coastal Services, a private contractor conducting beach survey work for engineering firm Moffatt & Nichol, according to a press release from the Town of Oak Island.
The work is part of preparations for the 2025–26 Beach Nourishment Project, which includes land and sea surveying.
Police have not indicated whether any charges are being considered against the driver.
Town officials have since addressed growing misinformation online, stating clearly that the Oak Island Beach Safety Unit was not involved in the incident.
'It has been erroneously reported on social media and other platforms that this accident was caused by the Town's Beach Safety Unit during its regular patrols. This information is false and should not be shared,' the town said in a statement.
'Claims such as this can quickly cause the spread of misinformation, and lead to a dangerous lack of trust in first responders.'
The beach survey work began on July 7 and is expected to continue through mid-July.
Town officials said the project had been publicly announced in advance via newsletters and official notices.
No further details have been released regarding the teen's condition or whether the contractor has responded to the incident, according to Fox News.
TI Coastal Services has not commented publicly. Daily Mail has reached out to TI Coastal Services for comment.
The investigation remains ongoing.
The terrifying incident comes just months after pair of teens, 14 and 15 years old were run over by a lifeguard at Nokomis Beach in Sarasota County.
The two teens were lying on the beach when the lifeguard who was driving a Ford-150 pickup truck 'was moving slowly over the crest of the berm,'
The guard told Fox13 at the time that he 'never saw any obstructions,' adding that 'his view was very limited by the hood of the pickup truck.'
He told the outlet that he 'felt two bumps and stopped, realizing he had struck something, and he saw that he had run over two juveniles as he opened the truck's door. Both were lying down in the sand at an angle.'
The beach staffer then immediately called 911 and began rendering aid to the injured teens.
One teen was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, complaining of pain in her neck, left shoulder, left side and left hip, Fox13 reported.
The other teen was taken by Aeromed to All Children's Hospital.
She advised that she heard the truck coming, but believed the sound was coming from the parking lot to the East rather than the beach to the west of them.
The teen's mother said she suffered a broken pelvis and was being kept overnight to evaluate the status of her lungs and liver.

New Hampshire's new law protecting gunmakers faces first test in court over Sig Sauer lawsuit

A new state law in New Hampshire that makes it harder to take gunmaker Sig Sauer to court is getting its first test before a judge on Monday. The 2-month-old law was created by the Republican-led Legislature in response to mounting lawsuits faced by the Newington-based manufacturer over its popular P320 pistol. The lawsuits say that the gun can go off without the trigger being pulled, an allegation Sig Sauer denies. Sig Sauer, which employs over 2,000 people in New Hampshire, said the gun is safe and the problem is user error. Several large, multi-plaintiff cases filed since 2022 in New Hampshire's federal court representing nearly 80 people accuse Sig Sauer of defective product design, marketing, and negligence, in addition to lawsuits filed in other states. Many of the plaintiffs are current and former law enforcement officers who say they were wounded by the gun. They say the P320 design requires an external mechanical safety, a feature that is optional. The most recent New Hampshire case, representing 22 plaintiffs in 16 states, was filed in March. It's the focus of Monday's hearing. The new law on product liability claims against Sig Sauer and other gun manufacturers covers the 'absence or presence' of the external safety and several other optional features. Claims can still be filed over manufacturing defects. Attorneys for Sig Sauer argue it should apply to the March case, even though the law didn't exist at the time. 'New Hampshire has a clearly articulated position against such claims being cognizable in this state,' they argue in court documents for breaking up the cases and transferring them to court districts where the plaintiffs live. Lawyers from a Philadelphia-based firm representing the plaintiffs, disagree, saying the law 'has zero implication' on the case and only applies to future lawsuits. New Hampshire was the chosen location because federal rules allow lawsuits against a company in its home state, the plaintiff's attorneys say. Those lawsuits have been assigned to one federal judge in Concord. Sig Sauer is trying to decentralize the case, they say. Sig Sauer has prevailed in some cases. It has appealed two recent multimillion-dollar verdicts against it, in Pennsylvania and Georgia. A judge recently allowed the Pennsylvania verdict to stand, but vacated $10 million in punitive damages awarded to the plaintiff.

Tragedy as Scots ice hockey star, 19, falls to his death from balcony at Ibiza Rocks Hotel

A TEEN ice hockey star has died after plunging from a balcony in Ibiza - just days after another Scots tourist fell to his death at the same hotel. Gary Kelly, 19, fell from the third floor at the four-star Ibiza Rocks Hotel in the early hours of this morning. 5 5 Two ambulances were sent to the scene but paramedics said there was nothing they could do to save him. The tragedy, which is being investigated by police, happened just after midnight. Ibiza Rocks is the same hotel where a Scots holidaymaker fell to his death on July 7. Evan Thomson, 26, from Aberdeen, was on holiday with pals celebrating his birthday. In the days after Evan's death his loved ones raised questions about safety and blasted the hotel where he died over the way the situation was handled. Ice hockey star Gary played for both Dundee Stars and Aberdeen Lynx last season. Tributes have been paid to the teen on social media since the news of his death. He has been described as a "hugely talented and charismatic individual" by Dundee Stars. A statement from the team said: "The Dundee Stars are truly devastated to learn that Gary Kelly has tragically passed away. "We send our thoughts and condolences to Gary's family, partner, and all his friends at this extremely difficult time. Scottish Tourist's Tragic Fall in Ibiza: Community in Mourning "Everyone at the club including players, staff, management, and ownership are heartbroken to hear this tragic news. "Gary was a hugely talented and charismatic individual who had a great future ahead of him. "His loss will impact many in the ice hockey community and beyond. He will be sadly missed. "We respect and support the family's request for privacy at this extremely difficult time." Aberdeen Lynx also paid tribute to Gary calling him one of their "brightest stars". The team wrote: "The Lynx family is heartbroken to share the devastating news of the sudden passing of one of our brightest young stars, Gary Kelly, while on holiday. "Gary was more than just a talented hockey player — he was a young man full of heart, passion, and dedication. On the ice, he gave everything he had. Off the ice, he brought energy, kindness, and an infectious love of life that lifted everyone around him. "He wore his heart on his sleeve, and that spirit left a lasting mark on our team, our club, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. 5 5 "Gary's potential was limitless, but even more than that, he was simply a brilliant person to be around. He was part of our family, and his absence leaves a hole that cannot be filled. "We send our deepest condolences to Gary's family and friends at this unimaginably difficult time. Our thoughts are with you, and we stand with you in grief and in love. "As a club, we are doing all we can to support our players and members as they come to terms with this tragic loss. "Rest easy, Gary — you will always be one of our brightest stars." Ibiza Rocks released a statement this afternoon which states that they have suspended all their events. It read: "We are deeply shocked and devastated by the recent incidents that have tragically occurred. "Our priority is to support those affected and their loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and to fully assist the authorities with their investigations. "The safety and wellbeing of our guests has, and always will remain, our highest priority. Given the seriousness of the situation and out of respect for those involved, we believe it is right to pause our advertised events programme at this time.

BREAKING NEWS Kristi Noem gives harrowing update on 'scum of the earth' illegal migrant who shot border agent in the face

The illegal immigrant who shot an off-duty border agent in the face over the weekend was detained Monday morning. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem gave the update during a press conference where she said she visited with the agent who was shot and his family. The agent who was shot was able to use his sidearm to strike one of his two attackers – both of whom have a criminal record and are in the U.S. illegally. 'There's absolutely zero reason that someone who is scum of the earth like this should be running loose on the streets of New York City,' Noem said. President Donald Trump 's immigration team vowed to flood sanctuary cities with agents to arrest and deport criminal migrants in the wake of a shooting of a Customs and Enforcement officer. 'What we'll do in a city like this is we'll double down,' Noem said in her briefing alongside border czar Tom Homan and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Rodney Scott. 'We'll put more agents here, we'll put more personnel here, we'll give them more equipment, more training for situations where they might have to go into a dangerous neighborhood where local law enforcement won't be there to have their backs.' This story is breaking and will be updated.
