Phelps and Jackson each hit 2 HRs, Georgia beats Binghamton 20-4 at Athens Regional
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Tre Phelps and Dan Jackson each hit two of No. 7 national seed Georgia's five home runs on Friday and the Bulldogs beat Binghamton 20-4 in the opening game of the Athens Regional.
Regional host Georgia (43-15) plays the winner between Oklahoma State and Duke on Saturday and No. 4 seed Binghamton (29-25) plays a loser-out game.

Phelps finished with four hits, including a double, five RBIs and scored four runs and Jackson had six RBIs. Kolby Branch had four hits and drove in two and Nolan McCarthy added a double, home run and three RBIs.
Leighton Finley (3-2) gave up two runs on four hits with seven strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings.
Slate Alford led off the first with a double and, after Robbie Burnett flied out, scored when Phelps hit a home run. Jackson added a three-run shot to make it 5-0 going into the second.
Matt Bolton and Zach Rogacki each hit an RBI single in the third to trim Binghamton's deficit to 5-2 but Jackson answered with another three-run homer off Brady Bouchard (3-5) in the home half.
First pitch was delayed about 3 1/2 hours due to inclement weather in the area.

Ethan Hedges cracks 2 solo home runs and USC closes in on super regional berth
Associated Press CORVALLIS, Oregon (AP) — Ethan Hedges hit two solo home runs and USC defeated Saint Mary's 6-4 on Saturday night to reach the championship round of the Corvallis Regional. Hedges gave the Trojans a 1-0 lead with a one-out home run in the bottom of the first inning. Saint Mary's went ahead on a two-run home run by Diego Castellanos in the second inning. The Gaels made it 3-1 when Aide Taurek homered to lead off the fourth. USC tied it in the bottom of the inning when Augie Lopez blasted a two-run homer to right-center field and Hedges' one-out homer in the fifth gave the Trojans the lead for good. Richard Tejeda delivered an RBI single in the sixth for a 5-3 lead. Cody Kashimoto's sacrifice fly in the eighth got the Gaels within 5-4 but Maximo Martinez got the run back for USC with an RBI-single in the bottom of the inning. USC's Caden Hunter pitched a 1-2-3 ninth for his first save of the season. Starter Mason Edwards (3-0) got the win, allowing three runs in 5 1/3 innings. John Damozonio (4-3) took the loss for Saint Mary's (36-25). USC (37-21) advances to the championship round, a win away from the super regionals. Body of burned man found in Georgia's Stone Mountain Park
The badly burned body of a young man was found Saturday in Georgia's Stone Mountain Park, authorities said. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is helping local authorities investigate the discovery, spokesperson Nelly Miles said. Stone Mountain Department of Public Safety spokesperson John Bankhead said an autopsy by the DeKalb County Medical Examiner's Office was scheduled for Monday. A hiker came across the body and reported it to authorities at about 8:18 a.m. Saturday, Bankhead said by phone. He described the location of the discovery as the side of the mountain opposite its walking trail and about 100 or more yards from a tower for its Summit Skyride, a Swiss cable car line to the top. Bankhead said the location is not remote but is rarely hiked. "I hike here all the time and I didn't know that was there," he said. The spokesperson told NBC affiliate WXIA of Atlanta: "It's very odd, peculiar, no one that I've talked to that's worked out here for years has seen anything like this at the park." He said Saturday night that authorities have a prospective identity for the man but have not verified it. Personal belongings, including a vehicle parked in the area, led investigators to the possible name, he said. Authorities told WXIA that the fire associated with the body was also a focus for DeKalb County Fire Rescue Department arson investigators. The park includes attractions like a lakeside resort and is run by a state authority and an amusement park management contractor. It has drawn demonstrations and split opinions over what the park describes as the "largest high relief sculpture in the world" — a depiction of Confederate figures Jefferson Davis, Robert E. Lee and Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. The first part of the sculpture was completed in 1924 and the last in 1972. The mountain is about 20 miles east of Atlanta.
