India: FADA reports 3% growth in April 2025 vehicle sales
New Delhi: The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) reported a 3 per cent rise in retail vehicle sales for April 2025, compared to the same month last year. FADA attributed increase in sales across all categories except commercial vehicles, according to its monthly vehicle retail sales data released on Monday.
FADA President C. S. Vigneshwar attributed April sales to pull back in market and pause in tariff by US. "With the tariff war paused, stock markets staged a sharp pullback--alleviating investor concerns--and customers thus leveraged Chaitra Navratri, Akshay Tritiya, Bengali New Year, Baisakhi and Vishu to complete purchases, helping April end on a positive note,"
According to the report, the three-wheeler segment saw the highest growth of nearly 25 per cent compared to April 2024, followed by the tractor segment, which recorded a 7.5 per cent year-on-year increase.
On the other hand, commercial vehicles (CV) saw a minor (year-on-year) decline of 1 per cent and a more than 4 per cent month-on-month drop, weighed down by OEM price hikes and flat freight demand. It was the only segment that witnessed a decline for April 2025.
On contrary in CV segment "the bus segment exhibited resilience, underpinned by strong school-transport and staff-mobility demand." said FADA release.
The two-wheeler segment posted a rise of about 12 per cent, driven by strong rural demand. "Dealers reported buoyant enquiry growth in rural areas post-Rabi harvest, driven by strong crop yields, healthy reservoir levels and a favourable monsoon outlook, while wedding-season tailwinds sustained rural offtake," Vigneshwar said, referring to two-wheeler sales.
Passenger vehicle sales saw a modest 1.6 per cent increase, with strong SUV demand offset by sluggish sales in the entry-level segment.
FADA says the outlook for May 2025, looks bright as agriculture output is expected to be good.
"May's agricultural cycle is concluding on a strong note, underpinned by healthy crop prices and robust mandi procurement," FADA said in the release. It added, "at the same time, Kantar's Rural Barometer and GroupM data signal heightened consumer selectivity in rural India--household spending has outpaced income growth, and inflationary pressures are tempering discretionary purchases."

Electric passenger vehicle sales in India cross 4% first time in May 2025: FADA
New Delhi: The contribution of electric passenger vehicle (EV) sales crossed 4 per cent in May, compared to 2.6 per cent of the same period of 2024, the data by the Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) revealed. The May retail data marks an uptick from 3.5 per cent in April by 0.5 per cent. The increasing retail sales data marks a significant shift in consumer adoption of EVs, signalling growing momentum in the transition towards cleaner mobility. The retail data of electric passenger vehicles shows that the players in the segment sold about 12,304 units, compared to just 8,029 units of the May 2024. The FADA data shows that the April retail sale was registered at 12,233 units. On the other hand, the FADA data released on Friday shows that auto players witnessed a modest rise of 5 per cent in May compared to the same month last year. Segment-wise, the two-wheeler category performed best, registering a rise of 7.3 per cent on a year-on-year basis. Three-wheelers followed (rise of 6.2 per cent), and the tractor segment registered a gain of 2.7 per cent on a year-on-year basis. According to FADA, robust semi-urban/rural demand driven by auspicious marriage dates, strong Rabi harvest, and pre-monsoon pull helped the two-wheeler segment register a year-on-year rise. On the other hand, financing constraints in the economy segment cap upside, leading to a decline of nearly 2 per cent in the segment. The passenger vehicle segment suffered a decline, on "Elevated inventory days and subdued consumer sentiment--particularly in entry-level models--compounded by war-related tensions for border-state (J&K, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat) and margin-money challenges; healthy bookings offset by weak retail conversions," FADA said. However, FADA projects that global supply-chain headwinds (rare-earth constraints in EV components, geopolitical tensions) may limit urban consumer sentiment and exert cost pressure.

New Delhi: The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) on Friday released vehicle retail data for May, which revealed a modest rise of 5 per cent as compared to the same month last year. Segment-wise, two-wheeler was the best category, which performed, registering a rise of 7.3 per cent on a year-on-year basis, followed by three-wheeler (rise of 6.2 per cent), and the tractor segment registered a gain of 2.7 per cent on yoy basis. On the flip side, the Passenger Vehicle segment, Construction Equipment, and Commercial Vehicle declined by 3.1 per cent, 6.3 per cent, and 3.7 per cent, respectively. According to FADA, robust semi-urban/rural demand driven by auspicious marriage dates, strong Rabi harvest, and pre-monsoon pull helped the two-wheeler segment to register a year-on-year rise. On the other side, financing constraints in the economy segment cap upside, which led to a decline of nearly 2 per cent in the segment.
