I didn't look for new leads, police officer tells Pastor Koh trial

KUALA LUMPUR : An investigating officer who probed Pastor Raymond Koh's disappearance told the High Court today that he did not continue the investigation to look for new leads in the case.
Ahmad Marzuki Ibrahim said he took over the investigation from his senior colleague, Supari Muhammad, in February 2019, and he only focussed on looking for a suspect, one Saiful Bahari Abdul Aziz.
'I wanted to take Saiful's statement to know if he wanted to make any denials (of his involvement in Koh's disappearance),' he said when testifying in the hearing of a lawsuit filed by Koh's wife, Susanna Liew, against the police and government over the pastor's disappearance.
Liew wants the authorities to be held liable for her husband's abduction and for misfeasance in public office.
Marzuki said he could not track down Saiful until 2022, when he was transferred to another department.
To a question from Liew's lawyer, Jerald Gomez, Marzuki said he did not know who was appointed the new investigating officer after his transfer.
Marzuki also pointed out that Lam Chang Nam, a former e-hailing driver, was charged in the magistrates' court in 2018 with kidnapping Koh.
Gomez then asked the officer if he was called to testify for the prosecution since he was the investigating officer on record. Marzuki said he was not called.
He acknowledged that there was no evidence from statements recorded from Lam and Koh's son, Jonathan, to implicate the former e-hailing driver in the kidnapping.
Lam was acquitted at the end of the prosecution's case but in 2021 was ordered to enter his defence on a charge of extorting Koh's family.
The hearing before Justice Su Tiang Joo continues on July 8.

Pahang's PET30 to drive economic transformation across state
BENTONG: The Pahang Economic Transformation 2025-2030 (PET30) is a strategic initiative aimed at reshaping the economic landscape of the east coast state into a more sustainable, inclusive and people-centric model. PET30 is built upon three main pillars namely the well-being of the people, environmental responsibility and economic growth driven by the private sector. Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail described it not merely as a development plan, but as a comprehensive transformation exercise based on the state's resource strengths, current global market realities and the aspirations of its people. "PET30 will focus on strengthening the agro-food and plantation industries, advancing materials development, promoting nature-based tourism, enhancing human capital and workforce quality, and driving regional transformation and district empowerment. "Conserving forests and biodiversity will serve as the foundation of the green economy. "The green economy is a strategic asset, not only from the perspective of ecological sustainability but also as a new engine of growth, including carbon investment and the climate economy," he said in a statement today. Wan Rosdy earlier attended the PET30 master plan workshop led by Pahang Economic Advisory Council chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Nazir Abdul Razak at Genting Highlands near here today. Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy emphasised that strategic infrastructure projects, such as the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park, East Coast Rail Link, Kuantan Port, Pekan Automotive Park, Central Spine Road, and Gebeng, would be fully leveraged as catalysts for investments. He said PET30 could not rely solely on policy documents but must be translated into concrete actions, supported by strict monitoring, key performance indicators, and cross-agency collaboration. "I call upon all parties to treat the years 2025 to 2030 as an era of execution, not just planning. We must step out of our comfort zones and act swiftly to steer Pahang toward a more prosperous future. "I am confident that PET30 will build a more prosperous, sustainable, and united future for the benefit of all the people in Pahang and future generations," he said.

JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said other glamourous vehicles seized included Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, BMW 530e, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota Alphards, and a Lotus Elise S which were found to have committed various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) and related regulations. 'Among the offences detected include the absence of a Motor Vehicle Licence (LKM) and valid insurance, expired driving licence or no valid licence, use of fake registration plates, mismatched chassis number and use of counterfeit trade plates. 'All vehicles involved are now detained at the JPJ storage depot for further action and investigation,' he said at the Ops Luxury press conference at the Kuala Lumpur JPJ here today. Aedy Fadly said the integrated implementation of Ops Luxury was aimed at curbing the careless attitude of a few luxury vehicle owners towards road regulations. 'Owning a luxury vehicle is not a licence to ignore the law. The laws of the country apply to all regardless of status or brand of vehicle. 'Strict action will continue to be taken against anyone who fails to comply with basic requirements such as vehicle documents and a valid driving licence,' he said. He also encouraged the public to report any traffic law violations via the MyJPJ: e-Aduan app or email [email protected] with complete details for investigation purposes. 'The JPJ will continue to implement Ops Luxury periodically to ensure that only legal, safe, and registered vehicles are allowed on the road. Tony Pua returns to DAP leadership as disciplinary chief; Guan Eng joins Pakatan presidential council
KUALA LUMPUR, June 24 — DAP national adviser Lim Guan Eng is among eight party representatives appointed to the Pakatan Harapan (PH) Presidential Council, secretary-general Loke Siew Fook announced today. Loke said the appointments were decided after the party's Central Executive Committee (CEC) meeting yesterday. The DAP party election in March saw a significant shift, with Lim, the incumbent chairman at the time, securing a CEC spot by a narrow margin, finishing 26th out of 30 available positions. Besides Lim, the other DAP representatives appointed to the PH Presidential Council are Loke, Gobind Singh Deo, Nga Kor Ming, Chong Chieng Jen, Syahredzan Johan, Teo Nie Ching, and Woo Kah Leong. Loke also announced that the CEC endorsed ten DAP members to be co-opted into the party's highest decision-making body. These co-opted members include Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying, former Human Resources Minister V. Sivakumar, Bandar Kuching MP Dr. Kelvin Yii Lee Wuen, Kota Kemuning assemblyman V. Papparaidu, Buntong assemblyman M. Thulsi Thivani, and Stulang assemblyman Chen Kah Eng. Also appointed to the CEC are Penang Port Commission chairman Yeoh Soon Hin, former Paloh assemblyman Sheikh Umar Bagharib Ali, Kuala Lumpur DAP Youth chief Yap Yee Vonne, and former CEC member Wu Him Ven. The CEC also agreed to appoint former Damansara MP Tony Pua as DAP's disciplinary committee chairman and Ramkarpal Singh as the party's legal bureau chairman. Pua's new role marks his return to the party's central leadership after he failed to secure a spot in the CEC in 2022 and subsequently sat out the 15th general election. Cheras MP Tan Kok Wai was appointed the party's second adviser, following Lim Guan Eng, while Chong Chieng Jen was named DAP's parliamentary leader.
