Pahang's PET30 to drive economic transformation across state
BENTONG: The Pahang Economic Transformation 2025-2030 (PET30) is a strategic initiative aimed at reshaping the economic landscape of the east coast state into a more sustainable, inclusive and people-centric model.
PET30 is built upon three main pillars namely the well-being of the people, environmental responsibility and economic growth driven by the private sector.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail described it not merely as a development plan, but as a comprehensive transformation exercise based on the state's resource strengths, current global market realities and the aspirations of its people.
"PET30 will focus on strengthening the agro-food and plantation industries, advancing materials development, promoting nature-based tourism, enhancing human capital and workforce quality, and driving regional transformation and district empowerment.
"Conserving forests and biodiversity will serve as the foundation of the green economy.
"The green economy is a strategic asset, not only from the perspective of ecological sustainability but also as a new engine of growth, including carbon investment and the climate economy," he said in a statement today.
Wan Rosdy earlier attended the PET30 master plan workshop led by Pahang Economic Advisory Council chairman Tan Sri Mohamed Nazir Abdul Razak at Genting Highlands near here today.
Meanwhile, Wan Rosdy emphasised that strategic infrastructure projects, such as the Malaysia-China Kuantan Industrial Park, East Coast Rail Link, Kuantan Port, Pekan Automotive Park, Central Spine Road, and Gebeng, would be fully leveraged as catalysts for investments.
He said PET30 could not rely solely on policy documents but must be translated into concrete actions, supported by strict monitoring, key performance indicators, and cross-agency collaboration.
"I call upon all parties to treat the years 2025 to 2030 as an era of execution, not just planning. We must step out of our comfort zones and act swiftly to steer Pahang toward a more prosperous future.
"I am confident that PET30 will build a more prosperous, sustainable, and united future for the benefit of all the people in Pahang and future generations," he said.

ISTANBUL, June 24 (Xinhua) -- A China Eastern Airlines flight carrying over 200 passengers touched down at Istanbul Airport at around 7 a.m. local time (0400 GMT) on Tuesday, marking the launch of the airline's new direct route between Xi'an in southwestern China and Türkiye's Istanbul. It is the airline's second direct route connecting China and Türkiye, following its Shanghai-Istanbul service. Operated with Airbus A330 wide-body aircraft, the new route offers three round-trip flights per week on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, according to the Shanghai-headquartered airline. At the launch ceremony for the inaugural return flight from Istanbul at the airport on Tuesday morning, Wu Jian, China's deputy consul general in Istanbul, hailed the opening of the new route as a significant step in building a convenient "air Silk Road" between the two historic cities. The new route will undoubtedly inject new momentum into the promotion of China-Türkiye economic cooperation, cultural exchange, and the joint advancement of the Belt and Road Initiative, Wu said. Firat Ocak, aviation development director at Istanbul Airport, emphasized the airport's commitment to the Chinese market and expressed confidence that the new route would provide Chinese travelers with more efficient transit options to Europe and beyond via Istanbul. The launch of the direct flight not only enhances connectivity between western China and Türkiye but also serves as a convenient bridge for bilateral cooperation in trade, culture, and tourism, said Li Ge, general manager of the Istanbul branch of China Eastern Airlines.

Roundup: Indonesian durian eyes China's massive market potential
JAKARTA, June 24 (Xinhua) -- After an agreement last month between Indonesia and China regarding the export protocol for frozen durian, Indonesia's authentic durian now has the opportunity to expand its market to China. "Indonesian durian has a great opportunity in the Chinese market, depending on how we can produce durian that can compete with durian from other countries," Eliza Mardian, a researcher at the Center of Reform on Economics Indonesia, told Xinhua on Tuesday. China is the world's largest durian consumer. However, Indonesia has barely participated in the booming Chinese durian market. According to data from Statistics Indonesia, out of nearly 2 million tons of Indonesian durian produced last year, only 27 tons were exported to China. In fact, from January to May 2025, no durian was exported to China, leaving Indonesia far behind Thailand and Vietnam. Eliza said that the main obstacles to exporting durian from Indonesia to China were logistics and licensing issues. The long distance means that delivering fresh durian from Indonesia takes longer than from Thailand, which affects its quality. However, now that Indonesia and China have signed the export protocol agreement, licensing will no longer pose a major hurdle. Under this protocol, the Indonesian Quarantine Agency becomes a trusted regulator recognized by Chinese authorities to ensure the food safety of frozen durian products to be exported to China. Eliza encouraged the Indonesian government to provide various forms of support to farmers, including broad dissemination of export requirements, facilitation of plant health certification or phytosanitary measures, access to capital, and the development of logistics networks and adequate infrastructure, such as frozen storage warehouses. The China-Indonesia durian export protocol agreement has also been warmly welcomed by local governments and industry players in Central Sulawesi Province, where durian is one of the region's key agricultural commodities. As the main durian-producing area in the province, Parigi Moutong Regency currently has over 1,100 hectares of durian plantations with more than 110,000 trees, according to the local Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The regency also boasts 16 durian packaging houses that meet international standards, underscoring its readiness to enter the export market. Governor of Central Sulawesi, Anwar Hafid, expressed his strong commitment to developing the local durian industry during a focus group discussion on June 4 about durian exports to China. He noted that the province is determined to harness its durian production potential to penetrate the Chinese market more seriously.
