Finalists Unveiled for Bro Radio's Community Awards 2025
Bro Radio has unveiled the 33 finalists in this year's Community Awards with Chris Davies Estate Agents.
It follows four weeks of nominations from the community and hours of judging by panels made up of community leaders, awards sponsors and Bro Radio directors and volunteers.
Bro Radio's Community Awards sets out to celebrate everything great about living, working and visiting the county, with the finalists being recognised at a black-tie event taking place at Penarth Pier on Friday 6th June 2025.
Bro Radio's Community Awards are sponsored by Chris Davies Estate Agents, the Vale's largest independent estate agent, helping people to move home since 1989.

'I'm looking forward to celebrating the work of each of our finalists and unveiling our winners at Penarth Pier Pavilion on Friday 6th June.'
In the weeks up to the Awards evening, Bro Radio will be welcoming each of the finalists into the studios to share more about their contributions to life in the Vale of Glamorgan, which will be broadcast on air and via its social media channels.
The Community Awards evening will be broadcast live on Bro Radio on Friday 6th June, from 7pm, with highlights on social media.

Holmfirth Pride brings town together after homophobic attack
A town has held its first Pride event in response to a homophobic attack on a man as he was leaving a Pride 2025 took place on Saturday and Sunday after being organised by residents Hilary Bowyer and Isobel festival included activities such as a rainbow scavenger hunt, drag bingo, and an exhibition of queer art featuring local owner Ms Heely, said the event was organised after a man in his 20s was attacked by five men outside The Old Bridge on Norridge Bottom on 12 April. She said: "As a close-knit community, we were all horrified when we heard about the incident and did not want anybody to feel like we were not supportive."We did not want people to think that this is the sort of thing that happens here and we wanted to show it does not represent us as a community."All of the 65 businesses in the town have got bunting up and people are leaving their mark in the streets with chalk to show that there is acceptance and we are welcoming to all."Ms Heely added the positive response to the event had "had me in tears" as it had shown how the "community has really rallied together". She said: "It has been heartwarming to see such a positive response to something negative."We've had six weeks to pull the project together to make sure it was ready for Pride month and were lucky to get funding from the parish council and Kirklees Council."The response has been so great that we're planning to hold the event again next year."We just want to send a message that everybody belongs and we will not tolerate hate."The attack left the victim with facial injuries after being punched and kicked by the group, who had also made offensive slurs to the victim and his partner, and was investigated as a hate crime by West Yorkshire Police. Community art sessions hosted to reimagine Occupation tapestry
Islanders are being invited to paint or colour in their own version of a tapestry marking the Heritage said it was taking its Occupation Tapestry back out into the community in the form of colouring sheets and a large original, hung at the Maritime Museum, was unveiled in 1995 to mark the 50th Liberation Day - with 12 panels of hand-embroidered pictures to depict island life. In 2015, a 13th panel was added to the collection mark Liberation Rodrigues, JH Outreach Curator, said the designs of the original 12 panels had been made into canvases. She said: "We have 12 different panels which represent each parish and they all tell a very interesting story of the Occupation. "It's an opportunity for people to come in and learn a bit about the tapestry, the history as to why it came about and they get an opportunity to paint and engage with the actual panel in their own way." Ms Rodrigues said the sessions were for all ages and abilities."We can get creative, [if] anyone wanted to bring along some material and do a bit of collage, it's a complete open creative session, so it's whatever anyone wants to bring to the table."Workshops will be held at the parish halls in St Saviour, Trinity, St Clement, St Peter and St Lawrence until Thursday 31 July.
