Do you really need almond milk? Ghar ka version in 10 mins

Almond milk sounds fancy, and if you've checked the price tag in a store, it definitely tries to act the part. It's all over wellness trends — in smoothies, coffee shops, and reels where everything looks beige and perfect. But honestly? You don't need to spend on it. You can make your own fresh, clean version right at home, and it takes barely ten minutes. No additives, no mystery ingredients. Just almonds and water doing what they do best. Most of the packaged stuff has stabilisers and sweeteners that help it sit on a shelf for weeks. But if you're after something that actually tastes like almonds, making it yourself is the way to go. You don't need much — just a blender, soaked almonds, and a cloth or sieve. Homemade almond milk is naturally light, smooth, and full of goodness. It's dairy-free, easy on the stomach, and delivers healthy fats and vitamin E without that weird over-processed aftertaste. According to a study published in ResearchGate, almond milk is also rich in protein and antioxidants, including flavonoids, vitamin E, and plant sterols that help support overall health. Almond milk made with 10% almonds had the highest protein and fat content—even after 7 days in the fridge—and also scored highest in taste tests. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Free P2,000 GCash eGift UnionBank Credit Card Apply Now Undo These nutrients may help lower the risk of heart disease and cancer, making almond milk a smart and satisfying everyday choice. You can use it like any other milk — in coffee, with cereal, or blended into your morning smoothie. If you want it sweeter, add a soft date. If you like a little spice, try cinnamon or cardamom. Or just keep it plain and let it blend in quietly. How to make almond milk at home (in just 10 mins) You'll need: 1 cup almonds (soaked overnight or 6–8 hours) 3 to 4 cups water A blender A muslin cloth or fine strainer Optional extras: 1 soft date A pinch of cinnamon, cardamom, or vanilla What to do: Drain and rinse the soaked almonds. Add them to the blender with fresh water and any extras. Blend until smooth. Strain through a cloth or sieve. Pour into a bottle and store in the fridge. It stays fresh for 3–4 days. Just give it a quick shake before using — natural separation is normal. And here's the bonus: you're left with almond pulp, which you can actually use. Mix it into roti dough, stir it into sabzis, or turn it into a crumbly topping. No waste, just extra goodness. So next time you want something simple, fresh, and actually worth drinking, skip the box. Grab a handful of almonds and let your blender handle the rest. 5 advantages of barley water and how to prepare it

You may know that barley is used to prepare beer and whiskey. But, the catch is here! It is not just beta-glucan and fiber-rich, but mineral-rich in B vitamins, Iron, Magnesium, and selenium content as well. You can see them in various forms, like hulled barley, pearl barley, and barley flour. It is likely one of the earliest domesticated grains that have been and will continue to be consumed as food, animal feed, and in brewing. Barley grains, unlike some other cereal grains, such as wheat, rice, and maize, contain high levels of dietary fibre (e.g., β-glucan) and tocols, which are safe for ingestion by humans. It is very clearly demonstrated that intakes high in such chemicals are protective against diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease in studies. Helps reduce cholesterol Barley is a good source of beta-glucan, a soluble fiber that prevents the "evil" cholesterol (LDL) in the intestine and allows for the removal of the same from the body. Regular intake of barley water can lower total cholesterol levels and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. It may even reduce blood pressure and enhance vascular function, according to some studies. Helps digestion and prevents constipation Due to its rich fiber content, barley water can serve as a mild natural treatment for stomach problems. It normalizes bowel movement, soothes bloating, and maintains a healthy gut. Daily use can prevent the development of such diseases as diverticulosis or hemorrhoids. Supports blood sugar levels Barley water is of low glycemic index and retards the absorption of sugar in the blood. Therefore, it is an ideal beverage for type 2 diabetic patients or for those who wish to maintain a check on blood sugar levels. Its antioxidant as well as fiber content also sensitizes the insulin. It detoxifies and hydrates Barley water is a natural diuretic that encourages the kidneys to expel toxins and excess water. It is especially useful for people who have urinary tract infections or water retention. It also helps to hydrate the body during summer or when sick. Helps in weight loss The sensation of fullness is what will stop us from overeating, and the fiber in barley water does just that. It induces fullness, suppressing hunger and calorie consumption during the day. It can help with sustained weight loss or weight maintenance, together with a healthy lifestyle and diet. How to make it To make this water at home, wash ¼ cup of hulled barley seeds, boil it in 4 cups of water for 30-40 minutes, cool and strain. You may add lemon and cinnamon for flavor but don't use sugar, if you want to monitor blood sugar levels Get the latest lifestyle updates on Times of India, along with Friendship Day wishes , messages and quotes !

How Friends Can Help Build Preventive Habits Like Eating Better And Staying Active

Last Updated: Friendship isn't just about being there during the hard times; it's about helping each other rise Let's be honest! Most of us have, at some point, indulged in unhealthy habits because of our friends. Late-night pizza runs, alcohol-fueled catch-ups, and endless binge-watching sessions with mindless snacking socializing often becomes a gateway to poor choices. But what if we flipped the script? Imagine using that same social energy to build healthier, preventive habits instead: going for a hike instead of nursing a hangover, cooking nutritious meals together instead of ordering fast food, or turning board game night into a zero-sugar zone. 'That's where habit buddies come in, friends who actively support each other in making better lifestyle choices, not just for a short-term challenge, but for long-term wellness," says Tanya Khanna, Nutritionist and Yoga Trainer, Alyve Health. We often think of personal growth as a solo journey, but real change often starts in pairs. Sometimes, your closest friend becomes the most unexpected catalyst for a healthier life. Research shows we're far more likely to stick to good habits when we're not doing it alone. Whether it's going for an early morning walk, choosing a healthier meal, or cutting back on weekend drinks everything feels more achievable when done together. Healthy changes can feel uncomfortable. A friend can offer a pep talk when your motivation dips. Celebrating Wins Together Whether it's quitting alcohol or finishing 10,000 steps, sharing progress doubles the joy. Gentle Honesty A real friend will call you out when you're slipping and remind you why you started in the first place. Creating a Positive Environment Friends influence what you eat, how you spend your time, and what habits become 'normal." Health Habits You Can Build Together Cook or meal prep together on weekends Make dining out more mindful by choosing restaurants with healthier menus Plan weekend hikes, group cycling, dance classes, or a badminton game Compete on step counts or app-based fitness challenges Try alcohol-free weekends with creative, healthy mocktails Treat yourselves to a spa day instead of a cheat meal Friendship isn't just about being there during the hard times; it's about helping each other rise. True friends grow together. And in doing so, they prevent each other from falling into lifestyles that don't serve their body, mind, or future. The truth is, healthy doesn't have to mean boring and it certainly doesn't have to be lonely. All it takes is one friend to turn a habit into a lifestyle. This Friendship Day, ask your closest friend:'Want to grow healthier together?" You might just change each other's lives.
