Small brands pick qcomm platforms as impact player
About 300 regional and small brands have signed up with
quick commerce
and
food delivery platforms
in the past month to take advantage of the
Indian Premier League
(IPL) boost, said executives aware of the development.
Most of these food and beverage brands have got on to the platforms for the duration of the tournament between March 22 and May 25, said the people who represent companies such as
Swiggy
and
Blinkit
as well as the National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI).
Regional brands
such as Troovy chips, Samyang Ramen noodles, Lucknow Kabaab Hub, Captain Sam's pizza, Boss burger, Artinci cookies and Feeelings noodles are among those looking for an IPL lift. On average, 130-150 new regional brands get on delivery and quick-commerce platforms every month, though some stay for two-three quarters, depending on how much they are willing to pay as margin fees, executives said.
'Quick-commerce platforms often demand margins exceeding 30 per cent , even on lower-priced SKUs (stock keeping units), challenging the long-term viability for emerging brands. But we remain optimistic about their potential,' said Indraneel Chitale, managing partner at Pune-based Chitale Bandhu.
By way of contrast, such platforms charge established large brands an average 10-20 per cent .
The smaller companies are willing to pay the price amid the consumption bump that takes place as people order snacks during the country's biggest sporting tournament. The onboarding trend is similar for packaged foods and beverages and dining brands.
'For a majority of the regional dining brands, the IPL is a large window of opportunity for discoverability by consumers on delivery platforms, despite the steep margins they pay,' said Sagar Daryani, president of the National Restaurants Association of India (NRAI), which represents over 500,000 restaurants across dine-in, delivery-only and cloud kitchen formats. 'Many cuisine-specific restaurants are also introducing online-only brands and running offers for the same to grow the business.'
Packaged food
products sold by these companies include namkeen, soft drinks, noodles, biscuits and juices.
Executives said events such as these prove to be particularly beneficial for brands looking to move beyond their core regional markets, enabling immediate visibility and widening reach in tier 2 and tier 3 locations.
'Our teams are getting over a dozen queries a day across quick commerce and delivery,' said a senior executive at a leading quick commerce platform. 'We have to be selective while onboarding brands, with constraints of dark stores and obviously give preference to established brands since that's where the consumer pull comes from.'

Wholesale price inflation dips to 0.39% in May
Wholesale price inflation (WPI) declined to 0.39% in May as prices of food articles, manufactured products, and fuel eased, government data showed on Monday (June 16, 2025). WPI-based inflation was 0.85% in April. It was 2.74% in May last year. "Positive rate of inflation in May 2025 is primarily due to increase in prices of manufacture of food products, electricity, other manufacturing, chemicals and chemical products, manufacture of other transport equipment and non-food articles, etc," the Industry Ministry said in a statement. As per the WPI data, food articles saw a deflation of 1.56% in May, against a deflation of 0.86% in April, with vegetables seeing a sharp drop. Deflation in vegetables was 21.62% in May, compared to 18.26%in April. Manufactured products, however, saw inflation at 2.04%, compared to 2.62% in April. Fuel and power, too, saw a deflation of 2.27% in May, compared to a 2.18% inflation in April. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) mainly takes into account retail inflation while formulating monetary policy. Data released last week showed, retail inflation eased to over six-year-low of 2.82% in May mainly due subdued food prices. The RBI this month cut benchmark policy interest rates by a sharp 0.50% to 5.50% amid easing inflation.

Cong claims SEBI's Adani probe hampered by lack of information sharing by tax-haven countries
'The Prime Minister is in Cyprus on his way to Canada. Of course, he would have us believe that it is a pure coincidence that a key figure in the Modani scam has Cypriot citizenship,' Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said. The Cyprus-based fund New Leaina has reportedly about USD 420 million in Adani companies, he claimed. The opposition party's assertions come amid the ongoing visit of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Cyprus. New Delhi, Jun 16 (PTI) The Congress on Monday claimed that a key figure in the Adani 'scam' has Cypriot citizenship, and said the ongoing SEBI investigations into transactions involving the conglomerate have been hampered by lack of sharing of financial information by tax-haven countries and 'lack of pressure' by India. 'The 'ultimate beneficial owners' of this fund are linked to Amicorp, which is believed to have set up at least seven Adani promoter entities, seventeen offshore shell companies linked to Mr. Vinod Adani, and three Mauritius-based offshore investors in Adani Group stock,' Ramesh said in his post on X. All these transactions are part of the ongoing SEBI investigations which have been hampered by lack of sharing of financial information by these and other tax-haven countries and lack of pressure by India, Ramesh alleged. There was no immediate reaction from the Adani Group on the claims but it has denied all such allegations made by the Congress and other entities. The Congress has been persistent in its attack on the government since the Adani Group stocks took a beating on the bourses in the wake of US-based short-selling firm Hindenburg Research making a litany of allegations, including fraudulent transactions and share-price manipulation, on the conglomerate headed by industrialist Gautam Adani. The Adani Group has dismissed all the charges made by the Congress and others as lies, saying it complies with all laws and disclosure requirements. Noting that Cyprus gained independence from British rule on August 16, 1960, Ramesh also said that in the 1950s, India spearheaded the international campaign for the full decolonisation of the island. In the context of today's geopolitics it is worthwhile to recall that India's championing of the independence of Cyprus in the 1950s and thereafter became a sore point in our bilateral relations with Turkey, he said. Terming Cyprus a 'reliable partner' for India, Prime Minister Modi on Sunday called for strengthening bilateral cooperation, which has 'immense potential for growth'. Modi, who arrived in Nicosia on the first leg of his three-nation tour, made the remarks while attending a business roundtable along with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides.
