Punchestown day 5 full race card and tips - list of runners on Friday

It's the clash of the week at Punchestown this evening as superstars Constitution Hill and State Man collide in the Boodles Champion Hurdle.
It's a fascinating clash and one that should attract a massive crowd to the Co Kildare venue.
State Man had the Champion Hurdle at his mercy when coming down at the last back in March after Constitution Hill fell earlier in the race.
Golden Ace picked up the pieces and powered up the Cheltenham hill to win for trainer Jeremy Scott and jockey Lorcan Williams, with the mare taking her chance again at Punchestown. Kargese, Break My Soul and Bottler'secret complete the line-up.
There are eight races in total once again, the first of which takes place at 3.40, with the feature contest scheduled to start at 6.40.
Here's a full list of the runners and riders, as well as a tip for each race:

Rachael Blackmore observation made as jockey makes retirement admission

The praise continues to come for Rachael Blackmore following her decision to retire from the saddle. The jockey announced last week that she was stepping down as a jockey with immediate effect. She expanded on her decision in an interview with Betfair on Tuesday, admitting she first had thoughts of retiring at the Cheltenham Festival in March. Blackmore was a true trailblazer, winning the Grand National, Cheltenham Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle among a host of other historic firsts. 'When I was leaving the weighing room at Cheltenham on Friday this year, for the first time I just had a little thought in my head: 'Will I be back here next season?',' she told Betfair. 'It was the first time that thought had ever crept into my head. I didn't know. 'Part of me thought I would be back, part of me thought I wouldn't . 'I just said to myself leave it until June and get to the jockeys' break. I'd think about it all then.' Blackmore's last winner aboard Ma Belle Etoile at Cork in early May and confirmed her decision, with the jockey announcing her retirement the following day. 'I was going to Cork the other day and I thought: 'If this one wins then maybe that's the time to call it',' she said. 'She won and, the following morning, I fully decided that was it.' The Tipperary native does not have an immediate plan for the next step in her career, and will adapt to a different lifestyle before considering what to turn her hand to. 'Even though retiring was probably a feeling inside me that I had kind of dampened down, it wasn't part of a massive plan to retire that Saturday, there is nothing set up but I am very lucky that I can take a few weeks and decide what might be next,' she said. 'It will be a very different life to the one I had previously." People have been taking to social media in their droves to pay tribute to Blackmore, who has been hailed as a class act both on and off the track. One person wrote: "Rachael Blackmore top class in and out of the saddle, incredible career." Sanctuary Runners Ireland said: "We salute the amazing Rachael Blackmore this week as she announces her retirement. A class act on the track and off it - she supported a campaign we ran with @UNHCRIreland back in 2020." Legendary trainer Aidan O'Brien said Blackmore was a "legend in her own lifetime". Former jockey Katie Walsh stated: "She had a great way of reading races, she was strong both physically and mentally and would line up there with the best of them every day of the week and she was just an inspiration as a human being, she was just absolutely brilliant."

Hewick aiming to make it third time lucky in French Champion Hurdle

The remarkable Hewick will try to make it third time lucky in Saturday's French Champion Hurdle at Auteuil. Runner-up to Losange Bleu in last year's Grande Course De Haies d'Auteuil, and fourth in the race in 2023, Hewick is back for another crack at the €390,000 feature, which is off at 3.25 Irish time and live on Sky. Even by the unlikely standards already achieved by 'Shark' Hanlon's €850 bargain buy during his career, victory in France's biggest hurdles contest might constitute a peak. He is the sole Irish contender in an eight-runner contest where local star Losange Bleu is favourite to defend his title. Benie Des Dieux was Ireland's last winner six years ago. READ MORE Also lining up is the Paul Nicholls-trained Monmiral, last year's Cheltenham Festival winner, who is part-owned by Alex Ferguson and has been supplemented into the race. Nicholls won the 'Grande Course' in 2016 with Ptit Zig. Cork-born jockey Gavin Sheehan is again on board Hewick, having guided him into eighth in last month's Grand National at Aintree. Sheehan's only other spin on the hugely popular veteran was when successful in the 2023 King George at Kempton. 'He's a wonderful horse. I said if he won the Grand National, they probably would have made a movie out of him!' Sheehan said. 'Having had that run last year and that experience will help. It's different racing over there, a different style. I've rode in it before and it's a straightforward track. The only difference is they have a hurdle on a bend. The drier the ground the better for him as well,' he added. Bookmakers rate Hewick a general 11/4 second favourite to challenge the odds-on Losange Bleu. Sunday's €900,000 highlight at Auteuil is the Grand Steeple-Chase De Paris, off at 3.05. There will be no Grade One jumps action in Ireland for more than five months, but the relentless National Hunt circus rolls into Wexford on Saturday. In the wake of Rachael Blackmore's retirement earlier this week, Darragh O'Keeffe continues to be busy picking up the bulk of rides for Henry De Bromhead, and Aspire Tower looks the one to beat in the novice chase. The last of O'Keeffe's six rides at Wexford is Pebble Bleu in the handicap chase, where the course hurdles winner Kiln Time has just a second start over fences. Inexperience is an obvious concern but a mark of 81 over fences looks exploitable for Harry Kelly's runner.

Nicky Henderson pulls Constitution Hill from £650,000 race after trainer admitted ‘something has gone wrong'

NICKY HENDERSON has pulled Constitution Hill out of a £650,000 race - after admitting 'something has gone wrong' following his disastrous end to the season. The former Supreme and Champion Hurdle superstar fell at Cheltenham and Aintree. 1 Constitution Hill looked destined to be the greatest hurdler ever but he is now on the mother of all recovery missions after a dreadful end to the season Credit: PA And he was humbled by old rival State Man in the Boodles Champion Hurdle at Punchestown earlier this month. A Christmas Hurdle win over Lossiemouth - when Willie Mullins' mare ran well below par - was the only bright spot in an otherwise horrific season. And the blows kept on coming as Henderson officially scratched Constitution Hill from next month's Ascot Gold Cup. When the Michael Buckley-owned eight-year-old was winning everything there was talk he could at least try his luck on the Flat. The mega-money Melbourne Cup had been suggested, as well as the 2m4f Group 1 contest at Royal Ascot. But the latter is definitely off the agenda now after Henderson took him out 11 days before the official deadline. Based on what we know from his hurdle runs, 2m4f at Ascot, with the stiff finish, would probably have been too far for Constitution Hill. And jumping form doesn't necessarilly translate to the Flat, especially when he would have been taking on the likes of Aidan O'Brien's borderline unbeatable Kyprios. Most read in Horse Racing It would have been interesting to see Constitution Hill line up at Ascot. But it was always a long shot - bookies had him priced at 33-1 - and really it looks like the right decision has been made. Henderson was left scratching his head after his former superstar appeared to lose all confidence at his hurdles. His two falls were shockers but he was the opposite at Punchestown, ballooning his obstacles where previously he looked slick. Hendo said after that defeat, where he finished in fifth of six and 27 lengths behind State Man: "It's disappointing but it's a tough game. "It was sad Constitution Hill had to be beaten that way because you could live with going down in a battle. "Something has obviously gone wrong because that's not him and our job is to try to unravel the mystery."
