IL Cazar Launches ‘WestDays' Project in October City with EGP 20 Billion Investment
Located near the Shooting Club and within proximity to key services and bustling urban centers, WestDays will be developed in four phases, with the company targeting EGP 5 billion in sales during 2025.
Designed to offer a comprehensive and modern lifestyle, WestDays will feature luxurious residential units, flexible commercial spaces, and an extensive array of amenities including sports courts, swimming pools, walking trails, and a dedicated social club. The project emphasizes community living through innovative architecture, green spaces, and smart urban planning.
Eng. Nader Khozam, Chairman and CEO of IL Cazar, emphasized the company's vision of building fully integrated communities that cater to modern living demands.
'The 'WestDays' project reflects our unwavering commitment to building modern communities that align with the needs of contemporary life,' he said. WestDays follows a series of successful IL Cazar projects in New Cairo, Heliopolis, and Ras El Hekma, as the company continues to expand its footprint across Egypt's most strategic real estate corridors.

In this Ahram Online exclusive, Lydia Akram — founder of LA Market and a pioneer of Egypt's modest fashion bazaars — talks scaling up, spotlighting local brands, and why Cairo is becoming a regional shopping destination. The three-day exhibition featured over 250 Egyptian brands offering everything from modest clothing and kids' wear to home décor and prepared foods, drawing over 20,000 visitors. For Akram, this is more than a business milestone. It's the culmination of a vision that began in 2018, when she first launched LA Market as a one-woman initiative, with just 20 brands and a small social media campaign. The debut event drew 2,000 visitors—less than one-tenth of the most recent turnout. Akram, a logistics management graduate and mother, saw an early gap in the Egyptian retail space for stylish, modest clothing—years before 'modest fashion' became a global trend. She explained that there was always demand for modest dressing, but many women, hijab-wearing or not, were tired of clothes that were awkwardly adapted to be modest, rather than designed that way from the start. The 2016 currency devaluation had already made imported fast fashion prohibitively expensive for many. This shift in consumer behaviour created an opening for affordable, well-made local alternatives. Today, Akram heads a 25-member team and works with more than 300 homegrown brands, with another 2,000 on the waiting list. But she insists that the real story is 'about the wonderful job the many good local brands have been doing.' 'I really think what the local brands have been offering in general, but specifically in terms of modest dressing, is the core of the success story,' Akram said. 'Obviously, we are very particular about who joins our LA Market, not just in terms of quality but also in terms of making sure that it is really and truly 100 per cent Egyptian from styling to production.' According to Akram, the success of these local brands is similar to that of the LA Market – and for that matter other brands that do not necessarily specialize in modest fashion: 'it is an incremental process of catering for the local taste with high quality products – not just in terms of clothing, although this remains to be the number one item on the list of purchases, but also in terms of skin care, beauty products, home décor and more.' The COVID-19 pandemic also reshaped the retail landscape, Akram explained. 'When people were confined to their homes and were surfing the net to do all kinds of shopping.' With the relaxation of the pandemic restrictions, she recalled, people were still not very keen to move around crowded shopping malls. Bazaars held in open spaces proved to be a very attractive idea. 'Luckily, because of this, my business did not die; I was scared that it was going to be crushed with COVID, but it turned out that the pandemic created some new spaces,' she said. Local production, Akram argued, expanded in the wake of the pandemic, with some people having used the time to think through long-procrastinated business plans or to decide on a new career path. Many new local brands came out across the board in the year after the pandemic, she insisted. Post-pandemic, LA Market has also gained international traction. 'We actually get visitors who are coming from many Arab countries, Europe and North America who actually book their flights to town in line with scheduled bazaars,' she stated. She also receives many foreign shoppers in a permanent store she set up this year for a selected choice of 80 local brands 'specifically for modest wear.' 'I think we do have some really impressive local brands that deserve a lot more attention, and the way forward is to try to take these brands to the international market – somehow,' Akram added. Her next ambition is to help these brands break into global markets. Helping these brands export their ware, Akram said, would expand the volume of their production, and this, 'by definition', could take them to the mass-production threshold, which is necessary to get the prices down. 'I am aware that some people are complaining about the pricing of local brands, but it all relates to the volume of production,' she added. She stresses that around 95 per cent of the brands working with LA Market are women-led schemes, including some projects specifically designed to help women of all socio-economic brackets expand their income, fulfil their passion, and maintain good cognitive functions. Currently, Akram has around 300 local brands on the business partners list. 'And we have some 2000 others on the waiting list; this is to indicate the growing volume of local brands,' she concludes. The Secretary-General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities in Egypt Mohamed Ismail Khaled, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the ALES Foundation at the Italian Ministry of Culture Fabio Tagliaferri, signed a joint cooperation agreement to organize the 'Pharaohs' Treasures' temporary archaeological exhibition. The exhibition is scheduled to open on October 24, at the Scuderie del Quirinale Palace in Rome, Italy. It comes as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen joint cooperation between Egypt and Italy, particularly within the archaeological field. The signing ceremony was attended by the Ambassador of Italy to Cairo Michele Quaroni; the Head of Museums Sector at the Supreme Council of Antiquities, Moamen Othman; the CEO of Mondo Mostre, Simone Todorow di San Giorgio, and the Director of Scuderie del Quirinale Palace, Matteo Lafranconi. The Secretary of the Supreme Council of Antiquities emphasized the importance of this fruitful cooperation, praising the distinguished relations between Egypt and Italy, especially in archaeology. This exhibition serves as a cultural window highlighting ancient Egyptian civilization, while also contributing to building bridges of cultural dialogue between people, and enhancing global appreciation of human history. A treasured exhibition The 'Pharaohs' Treasures' exhibition is the second largest archaeological exhibition held in Italy, featuring 130 artifacts selected from the Egyptian Museum in Tahrir and the Luxor Museum of Art. These pieces tell the story of ancient Egyptian civilization across multiple eras, through themes including royalty, the royal court, religious beliefs, daily life, funerary rituals, and the afterlife. The exhibition is scheduled to run until May 2026, providing an extended opportunity for Italian and international audiences to discover the splendor of Egypt's history. The exhibition includes pieces being displayed in Italy for the first time, including the golden coffin of Queen Ahhotep, an example of New Kingdom funerary art, completely covered in gold, reflecting the queen's lofty status. It also features the golden funerary mask of King Amenemope, which embodies the concept of royal immortality through the use of gold, the sacred metal associated with the sun god Ra. The exhibition further includes the Menkaure Triads, a monumental sculpture from the Old Kingdom depicting the king standing between the goddess Hathor and the local deity of Thebes, a powerful embodiment of sacred power. And it is slated to feature the golden coffin of Tuya, Akhenaten's grandmother, with decorations and hieroglyphic inscriptions narrating her journey to the afterlife. It aims to explores ancient Egyptian society, the divine power of the pharaohs, daily life, religious beliefs, funerary rituals, and the latest archaeological discoveries. From the majestic statues of King Ramses VI and King Thutmose III to delicate royal jewelry, exquisitely crafted everyday objects and coffins decorated with sacred symbols, the exhibition reveals the profound artistic and spiritual sophistication that characterized ancient Egyptian civilization. The exhibition has also devoted a special section to the 'Golden City,' one of the most important archaeological discoveries in recent years. Excavations revealed a large residential complex dating back to the reigns of King Amenhotep III and King Akhenaten, offering unprecedented insights into the daily lives of artisans and their families.

Hundreds of Volunteers at the Abu El-Enein Foundation Participate in 11th Convoy to Gaza
Rana Atef As part of Egypt's ongoing humanitarian support to the Palestinian people, the Abu El-Enein Foundation for Social and Cultural Work continues its intensive work to launch the 11th relief convoy to Gaza. This effort falls under the alliance of the National Alliance for Civil and Developmental Work, with the participation of hundreds of volunteers who work hard. The foundation's warehouses are witnessing evolved activity, as volunteers work to pack, wrap, and sort the aid supplies according to a carefully planned system that ensures urgent humanitarian needs are delivered to those who need them most inside Gaza. The convoy includes trucks loaded with dry food packages and essential relief materials intended to meet the needs of Palestinian families affected by ongoing aggression and blockade. The foundation emphasized that this convoy is a continuation of its active participation in relief efforts since the beginning of the crisis, reaffirming its national and humanitarian commitment and its dedication to being at the forefront of Egyptian civil society efforts in supporting the Palestinian people. It is worth noting that Egypt has sent more than 35,000 humanitarian aid trucks through the Rafah crossing since last October, carrying over 130,000 tons of food, medicine, and logistical support—making it one of the largest ongoing regional relief operations to date.
