Arla confirms best place to store milk and it's not in the fridge door
If you've been storing the milk in the fridge door, you've been doing it wrong. Arla Foods has just revealed the best place to maximise its quality and taste, and it's right at the back.
There seems to be a debate over where the best place to store the milk is. Whether it's full-fat, semi-skimmed or skimmed milk, it shouldn't be stored in the fridge door, Arla confirmed.
As fridges have a compartment for heavy drinks in the fridge door, shoppers automatically place them in that corner. Arla Foods Group, a Danish-Swedish multinational co-operative, broke the silence by revealing the most ideal place to store milk in the fridge if you don't want it to go bad.
The site explained: 'When thinking about where to store milk, temperature is the key factor. When milk gets exposed to air, it will lose its freshness quicker and go off much faster, so it's important to keep it sealed and store it in a chiller place.'
When it comes to dairy, it's important to maximise the freshness of the product and make sure that it goes well throughout its best before date. Therefore, milk should be stored back in the fridge as soon as it has been purchased.
'If you can, storing milk at the back of the fridge is always a good move. The further away from the door the milk is, the more consistently chilled it will be, safe from the constantly changing temperature outside and safe from going off,' they explained.
In other words, the best place to store milk is by placing it at the back of the fridge. Nonetheless, it's still important to make sure that the fridge temperature is set accordingly.
For those who decide to consume milk past its use-by date, the best advice is to 'trust your nose and your mouth.' Alternatively, if there are any leftovers that shoppers don't want to throw, they can be stored in the freezer - but it has to be done before the best-before date!
Milk also expands when it's frozen, the site revealed, recommending shoppers to 'transfer it from the bottle or cartoon you bought it into a safe and airtight freezer container to prevent any milk explosions.'
However, milk shouldn't be frozen for more than a month and consumed once it has been defrosted: "Once the milk is defrosted, be sure to drink it all within a couple of days and don't refreeze it."
Following this simple advice, shoppers can maximise their purchases and avoid their dairy products going bad sooner than expected. It will also allow more space for other drinks that won't be affected by the constant temperature change.

Aberdeen overhaul transfer department as club green light Jimmy Thelin recruitment revolution
The Dons have hired foreign scouts and strengthened their recruitment department with new faces in a bid to unearth the next Bojan Miovski Aberdeen are in the process of strengthening their recruitment and scouting departments as they look to bolster Jimmy Thelin 's squad again this summer. Ross Clarkson has come in from Motherwell, where he was head of performance analysis. He played an important role in helping to identify talent at Fir Park. Clarkson had previously worked with Aberdeen chief executive Alan Burrows at Motherwell. The Dons put Nuno de Almeida in as head of recruitment in December and since then there has been a review of that side of the operation. Aberdeen will now invest more in that department as they look to find the future Bojan Miovskis and Ylber Ramadanis, who they can develop and sell on for seven-figure fees. They are now set to add a number of overseas scouts to their operation. Former Swedish international Erik Edman is amongst them as the Pittodrie side look to try to unearth new talent. Aberdeen's recruitment strategy has been pretty global in recent seasons but they have also upped the ant in the domestic markets. The Dons know they will need to address that if they qualify for Europe, while they are also looking at young emerging Scottish talent with one eye on the future. Aberdeen have already started work on their summer recruitment, signing Nicolas Milanovic from Western Sydney Wanderers and Nick Suman from Cove Rangers. Swansea activist detained in Israel after standing with threatened West Bank villagers
Calls for justice as 70-year-old D. Murphy is held in Israeli prison amid crackdown on foreign observers A SWANSEA-BASED peace activist is being detained in an Israeli prison after she was arrested while standing in solidarity with Palestinian families facing imminent displacement in the West Bank. D. Murphy, a 70-year-old Irish citizen who resides in Swansea, was arrested alongside Swedish national Susanne Björk in the village of Khalet Al-Daba'a on May 31. Both women are reported to have complied with Israeli army orders but were accused of entering a restricted military area and failing to identify themselves. Murphy has since been transferred from Ben Gurion Airport to Givon Prison in Ramla. Her legal team is in contact with Israeli authorities, but her family and supporters have yet to speak to her directly. Björk was deported on Sunday, while Murphy is opposing deportation and faces a hearing before an Israeli judge. Her son, Dale Ryan, told campaigners: 'As far as I can see, her only crime was observing crimes against Palestinian people. I'm proud of my mother for standing up for human rights.' Murphy and Björk were present in Khalet Al-Daba'a, a small village in the Masafer Yatta region, to witness and report on the treatment of residents. The area has been subject to severe restrictions and demolitions by Israeli forces, with activists alleging ethnic cleansing and illegal land seizure by settlers. Masafer Yatta has long been under threat of forced removal since Israeli authorities designated it as a military firing zone in the 1980s. In recent months, violence has escalated. On May 5, Israeli forces destroyed 90% of homes and basic infrastructure in Khalet Al-Daba'a. Since then, settlers have returned almost daily, reportedly harassing remaining families and attempting to establish an illegal outpost. Murphy said in a statement before her arrest: 'This isn't about politics. It's about justice. Ordinary people like me are answering the call to witness what's happening because most governments are doing nothing.' The International Solidarity Movement (ISM), which organises peaceful observation missions in the region, said that Israeli authorities are increasingly targeting foreign nationals. A US citizen was deported from the same village in March, and the Israeli government has announced plans to build 22 new settlements despite international rulings declaring them illegal. The situation has prompted calls from human rights groups and campaigners in the UK and Ireland to urge the Foreign Office to intervene and demand Murphy's release. The Herald understands that Ms Murphy is a long-time activist who previously participated in humanitarian missions in Palestine. Her supporters say she poses no threat and was acting peacefully when arrested. A spokesperson for ISM said: 'International observers are being criminalised simply for documenting what is happening on the ground. We urge Welsh and UK representatives to stand up for D. Murphy and for the people of Masafer Yatta.' The UK Government has yet to issue a public response regarding Murphy's detention.
