Digital Innovation Part Of ASEAN 2045

KUALA LUMPUR, May 27 (Bernama) -- ASEAN is reinforcing its commitment to a seamlessly connected region through the ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan, which now places digital innovation and technology adoption at the heart of its long-term goals.
According to the Plan, the strategic goal for digital innovation is to achieve a community with continuous digital innovation and enhanced cybersecurity, advancing payments and financial markets' connectivity and efficient cross-border flow of information.
'ASEAN's digital economy is growing rapidly, and to unlock the region's digital economic potential and promote digital inclusion, adopting and integrating frontier technologies – such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI) and big data – is essential.
'While technologies and solutions offer significant benefits, their implementation poses challenges, including widening digital divide and increasing online safety and cybersecurity concerns, which will need to be addressed through advancing digital innovation, cross-border data flows, and promoting safe, inclusive access to and adoption of digital technologies and services,' it stated.
Digital innovation is one of six strategic areas of the ASEAN Connectivity Strategic Plan, which envisages connecting ASEAN by enhancing the physical, institutional, and people-to-people linkages across the region.
The other five strategic areas are sustainable infrastructure, smart and sustainable urban development, seamless logistics and supply chain, regulatory excellence and cooperation, and people-to-people connectivity, which are also crafted to support the realisation of the ASEAN Community Vision 2045.
In pursuing these goals, several strategic measures have been identified, including promoting digital data governance to support inclusive and sustainable socio-economic development across ASEAN; promoting the development of and improving the use and accessibility of open data; and supporting the adoption of existing and emerging technologies by all people and businesses, with the focus on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise (MSMEs), women, youth, and persons with disabilities to enhance competitiveness and productivity.
Other strategies include advancing seamless regional payments connectivity; enhancing collaborative research and development of digital technology; strengthening cooperation on cybersecurity measures to protect digital ecosystems, enhance online safety, combat online scams, and enhance trust in digital services, including use of online security technologies and applications.
Also enhancing information inclusiveness and accessibility and strengthening collaboration in digital media and information literacy to foster digital literacy among ASEAN citizens and address fake news, disinformation, and misinformation; and strengthening and nurturing digital talent mobility in ASEAN.

According to Yonhap news agency, the 20-minute call took place on Thursday (June 5) and was described by the presidential office as friendly and constructive. Trump congratulated Lee on his recent election victory. In response, Lee reaffirmed that the South Korea-US alliance remains the foundation of Seoul's foreign policy, presidential spokesperson Kang Yu Jung said in a written briefing. "The two leaders agreed to work toward swiftly reaching a mutually satisfactory agreement,' the office said, referring to ongoing negotiations on tariffs. To that end, they agreed to encourage tangible outcomes in working-level talks.' The call came just two days after Lee's inauguration, marking a return to high-level diplomacy following the ouster of former President Yoon Suk Yeol in April over his failed martial law attempt. Lee and Trump discussed a range of bilateral issues, including the July 8 deadline to resolve tariff negotiations. In April, the Trump administration imposed 25 per cent tariffs on South Korean goods but granted a three-month suspension to allow time for talks. The presidential office confirmed that Trump invited Lee to visit the US. Lee welcomed the idea and expressed hope for frequent consultations between the allies. Both sides agreed to arrange a face-to-face meeting at the earliest opportunity -- either on the sidelines of a multilateral forum or through an official bilateral visit -- for more in-depth discussions on strengthening the alliance. Potential venues being considered include the upcoming Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada from June 15 to 17 and the NATO summit in the Netherlands from June 24 to 25. Over 500 expected at TOT MPOB 2025 to explore palm tech innovations in Selangor
The TOT Programme – MPOB's annual flagship event – aims to offer commercialisation opportunities for palm-based technologies developed by MPOB researchers to industry players, local companies, and MSMEs. KUCHING (June 7): More than 500 participants from the oil palm industry, including micro, small and medium enterprises (MSME) operators and stakeholders interested in technology commercialisation, are expected to attend the Malaysian Palm Oil Board's (MPOB) Oil Palm Transfer of Technology (TOT) Programme 2025, scheduled for June 19 in Bandar Baru Bangi, Selangor. According to MPOB in a statement yesterday, the TOT Programme – MPOB's annual flagship event – aims to offer commercialisation opportunities for palm-based technologies developed by MPOB researchers to industry players, local companies, and MSMEs. The event will be launched by Minister of Plantation and Commodities, Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, and will present a wide spectrum of technologies across various segments of the oil palm value chain. In the upstream sector, the programme will feature innovations such as elite planting materials, the applications of artificial intelligence in plantations, and integrated pest management techniques. For the midstream sector, attendees will be introduced to processing and milling technologies designed for industrial application. Meanwhile, in the downstream sector, the programme will highlight formulations used in personal care products, health food, and animal feed. According to MPOB director-general Datuk Dr Ahmad Parveez Ghulam Kadir, the TOT Programme provides a vital platform for industry players to access new technologies and innovations, explore opportunities for research and commercial collaborations, secure intellectual property protection through technology licensing, and foster engagement in a sustainable palm innovation ecosystem.
