Sultan of Pahang graces closing of Malaysia-UAE Jungle Falcon Military Exercise
KUANTAN: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah, today graced the closing ceremony of the Jungle Falcon Exercise Series 2/2025 between the Malaysian Army (TDM) and the United Arab Emirates Land Forces (UAELF) at Felda Sungai Panching Timur here.
Al-Sultan Abdullah said the exercise symbolised the strong bilateral ties between Malaysia and the UAE, highlighting both nations' readiness to share knowledge, military tactics and strategic assets - a crucial step towards strengthening regional and global security.
His Royal Highness said through such cooperation, not only were the bonds between both forces enhanced, but mutual trust was also fostered, operational synergy formed and the effectiveness of joint actions improved to face any future challenges.
'I hope that all the knowledge and values gained from this exercise will be applied in every action and duty. Be soldiers of integrity, resilience and vision, not only on the battlefield but also in contributing to the development of our beloved nation.
'I am confident that the success of this exercise stems from the intensive training that tested the physical, mental and emotional endurance of every warrior. This exercise has served as a platform to nurture leadership, strengthen unity and empower the spirit of patriotism,' the Pahang Ruler said.
Also present at the closing ceremony were Chief of Defence Force General Datuk Mohd Nizam Jaffar, Malaysian Army Chief General Tan Sri Muhammad Hafizuddeain Jantan, Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces Staff Lieutenant General Eisa Saif Mohamed Ablan Almazrouei and Commander of UAELF Staff Major General Yousef Maayouf Saeed Humaid Al Hallami.
In a statement, TDM said the exercise was a bilateral training programme involving 77 officers and 766 other ranks from both countries, which took place from April 14 until today at several locations in Kuantan
This was the second series following the first edition held in 2023. The exercise was designed around joint Mechanised Operations and Special Operations in the context of Conventional Warfare, involving activities such as Mechanised Assaults, Combat Deployment, Heavy Weapons Live Firing and Special Operations.
All the training modules were structured to simulate real combat conditions and to test the physical and mental resilience of the personnel involved.
This approach allowed both forces to evaluate their operational readiness and the effectiveness of their existing standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Al-Sultan Abdullah leads Aidiladha observance in Pahang
KUANTAN: The Sultan of Pahang, Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah today performed the Aidiladha prayers with thousands of worshippers at the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Mosque in Indera Mahkota here. The ruler was accompanied by Tengku Ampuan of Pahang, Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah and Tengku Mahkota of Pahang Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah. Joining them were Tengku Arif Bendahara Pahang, Tengku Muhammad Iskandar Ri'ayatuddin Shah, and his wife Tengku Natasya Puteri Tengku Adnan. The royal family was welcomed upon arrival at 8.30am by Pahang Agriculture, Agro-based Industry, Biotechnology and Education Committee chairman, Datuk Seri Ir Mohd Soffi Abd Razak. He represented Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail who is away in Makkah, Saudi Arabia to perform the haj. Also present at the mosque were Pahang state assembly speaker Datuk Seri Mohd Sharkar Shamsudin, state executive council members along with senior state administration officials. The mosque's grand imam Mohd Hafidz Suhailie led the prayers while Pahang Mufti Professor Datuk Dr Asmadi Mohd Naim delivered the Aidiladha sermon. After the prayers, the royal family also witnessed the sacrificial rites at the mosque compound which also involved cows donated by Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tengku Hasannal. Meanwhile, in a post on the Kesultanan Pahang Facebook page, Al-Sultan Abdullah and Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah extended their warmest Hari Raya Aidiladha greetings to Muslims including those across Pahang. The posting wrote that Aidiladha serves as a reminder for Muslims to reflect the true meaning of sacrifice, sincerity, and unwavering devotion to Allah SWT. "The spirit of sacrifice shown by Prophet Ibrahim AS and his son Prophet Ismail AS should serve as a guide for all of us in facing challenges and prioritising the well-being of the ummah," it said. The royal couple also prayed that the qurban (sacrificial livestock) performed would be accepted by Allah SWT, bring blessings and unity to the community. "May this celebration be observed with gratitude, harmony, and compassion among everyone. Let us together embrace the wisdom of Aidiladha by strengthening unity, increasing acts of worship, and continually praying for the well-being of our state and our beloved country," it read.

Registrations now open for Malaysia's largest padel tournament
THE Volvo Padel Open is set to return in 2025 with its most ambitious edition yet, promising a larger prize pool, expanded competition categories, and enhanced participant experience. The tournament, recognised as the largest of its kind in Malaysia, will run from June 21 to July 27 2025, with registration now officially open. Organised in collaboration with three prominent padel venues in the Klang Valley – Joy Division Padel, Padelground, and PadelKu – this year's tournament will accommodate up to 320 players. Competitors will vie for a share of prizes exceeding RM180,000 in value, including cash, merchandise, complimentary court hours, and an exclusive week-long experience in a fully-electric Volvo vehicle. The registration window closes on July 3, 2025, with a one-off entry fee of RM160 per person or RM320 per team. In a show of appreciation to its customers, Volvo is offering a 50% discount on individual registration fees for Volvo vehicle owners. Acknowledging the rising calibre of local players, the 2025 edition introduces three refined competition categories – Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced – aimed at accommodating both seasoned competitors and those new to the sport. Cambodia hosts youth conference on climate change
PHNOM PENH: Cambodia on Tuesday (June 4) hosted the Local Conference of Youth (LCOY) 2025 on climate change, offering young people an opportunity to help shape documents and share their vision for the kingdom's climate future. Held in Phnom Penh, the conference brought together more than 250 young climate leaders, government officials, policymakers, and development partners. It amplified youth voices in Cambodia's climate agenda and shaped the country's future commitments under the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0. Chuop Paris, a secretary of state of Cambodia's Ministry of Environment, said at the event that the government will submit its updated NDC3.0 in July 2025, aiming for greater ambition, acceleration and inclusivity to reduce Greenhouse Gas emissions. The youth's contributions will be included in the official youth statement to the official youth constituency of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and reflected in the global youth statement ahead of COP30 in Brazil. "The voices of young people are essential in shaping a resilient and sustainable future for Cambodia," Paris said. "This conference is more than a platform for dialogue, it empowers youth to actively contribute meaningfully to our national climate agenda," he said. "As we work toward updating NDC 3.0, the ideas and energy of young Cambodians will play a central role in crafting inclusive and impactful climate solutions that safeguard our future." According to Cambodia's Children's Climate Risk Index 2024, nearly two million children, more than one-third of the country's youth, live in areas of high or very high climate risk, particularly in rural areas. The effects of climate change, such as rising temperatures, increased floods, droughts, and erratic weather patterns, are already impacting education, health, and livelihoods. "The climate crisis is a child rights crisis. With nearly two-thirds of Cambodia's population under the age of 30, youth leadership must be embedded at every level of climate governance," said Anirban Chatterjee, deputy representative of the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) to Cambodia.
