India vs England Tests: Will he, won't he? The Jasprit Bumrah dilemma!
TimesofIndia.com in Birmingham:
Before they commence preparations for the second Test vs England from July 2, the
Indian cricket team
need to take that tough
Jasprit Bumrah
call. Well before the side arrived in the UK for the five-match series, it was decided that the ace seamer will only play three Tests to manage his body and workload.
Which ones weren't revealed at that stage by chairman of men's senior selection committee
Ajit Agarkar
, and Bumrah maintained the three Test bit in an interview with Sky Sports without revealing too many details. So did head coach Gautam Gambhir during the post-match presser in Leeds.

Bumrah sent down 44 overs during the Headingley Test and while the side is enjoying a two-day break in Birmingham, the team management, and the seamer himself, need to take that rest call.
There is little turnaround time between the second and third Test and there will be a strong temptation to play him at Lord's from July 10. If he continues to play at Birmingham, playing the third Test goes out of the window because there will be only a four-day gap before he wears the whites again.
Taking a cue from the schedule and Gambhir's comments in the press conference, there is a bright possibility of the second Test being the break fixture for the star seamer.

The head coach had said that the series scoreline will not affect which Tests Bumrah plays and misses, and that call will be taken based on his workload as they need to manage him better for the cricket which is ahead of them.
Poll
Should Jasprit Bumrah rest for the second Test in Birmingham?
Yes, he should take a break.
No, he should play to level the series.
Former India head coach Shastri felt it could be a tough call to take as there will be a temptation to have him play in Birmingham, and level the series, and also have an eye at Lord's.
'Bumrah said he'll play three Test matches.
Now, which of the three he'll play, that's, you know, another question to be asked. I think if he takes a break, it'll be the next one, because he'll definitely want to play at Lord's, right? And there's a break, and then you go into Lord's, then there's a break, and then there's a choice between Manchester and the same. It could be 2-0 down. So that is the problem. I think he has got to play,' Shastri said on Sky Sports Cricket.

But if the decision making remains on the expected lines - Bumrah missing Birmingham and staying fresh for Lord's - the other headache is going to be who replaces him for the second Test. India lacked bite, even with Bumrah, in the series opener and now a tough replacement call could await them.
Former England quick Stuart Broad wants Arshdeep Singh to be drafted in for Bumrah, and the calls for Kuldeep Yadav's inclusion are only getting louder because of what he brings to the table. The direction which the Indian cricket team takes will be clear in the next few days but one thing is for sure - it could be a new-look bowling attack which takes the field for the Birmingham Test.

AIFF explains ISL U-turn, says Supreme Court move guided by legal advice
Facing criticism for its sudden U-turn, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on Monday, August 18 issued a defence of its handling of the Indian Super League (ISL) crisis. The governing body said its actions stemmed from legal advice, which suggested that the Supreme Court be first addressed on the National Sports Governance Bill before shifting attention to the ISL weekend, however, unfolded in a haze of contradictions. On Sunday, the AIFF confidently declared it would press the ISL matter before the Supreme Court at 10:30 am the next morning. By evening, that assurance was retracted, leaving stakeholders baffled. Clarity only returned when Amicus Curiae Gopal Sankaranarayanan, supported by Samar Bansal, confirmed the ISL issue would indeed reach the court's attention. "Based on advice received that the National Sports Governance Bill 2025 had passed both the houses of Parliament, the AIFF's Senior Counsel advised during a briefing meeting on Sunday late evening that this is the first aspect that needs to be brought to the attention of the Hon'ble Supreme Court," the federation said in its clarification was followed by another—AIFF claimed it was still weighing when to officially raise the ISL matter, but the Amicus Curiae had already moved ahead. By Monday, the case was mentioned before the timing couldn't have been more sensitive. The Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on the draft constitution case, which will shape Indian football's governance. On Monday, AIFF's senior counsel made oral submissions, with the court asking for written arguments ahead of the next hearing on Friday, August its statement, AIFF stressed the broader stakes of the dispute. 'The AIFF intends to use this opportunity to represent to the Hon'ble Supreme Court the urgent need for commercial continuity and to determine the future structure of its top-tier league, in the interests of players, clubs and other parties all of whose livelihoods are at stake due to the current impasse,' it the root of the chaos is the non-renewal of the Masters Rights Agreement (MRA) between ISL organisers Football Sports Development Limited (FSDL) and the federation. With the 2025-26 ISL season 'put on hold' since July 11, there's no calendar, no fixtures, and no guarantee of when—or if—the season kicks standoff has already hit home. Eleven clubs have jointly warned that without clarity, they 'face the real possibility of shutting down entirely.' Some have halted first-team operations, others have frozen salaries, and hundreds of Indian and foreign players are staring at uncertain futures.- Ends

Hudson Fasching joins Columbus Blue Jackets on one-year, two-way contract to bolster bottom-six
Greg Vasil / Bridgeport Islanders The Columbus Blue Jackets have added to their forward depth, announcing the signing of veteran winger Hudson Fasching to a one-year, two-way contract. The deal provides the team with a reliable, experienced option for its bottom-six forward group. General manager Don Waddell emphasized Fasching's work ethic, size, and versatility, calling him a high-character player who can step in whenever needed and provide value across the lineup. Hudson Fasching adds depth and experience to Columbus Blue Jackets lineup Fasching, 30, has skated in 175 career NHL games, collecting 17 goals and 23 assists for 40 points. A former fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2013 NHL Draft, he has since suited up for the Buffalo Sabres, Arizona Coyotes, and most recently the New York Islanders. With New York, Fasching appeared in at least 43 regular-season contests in each of the past three years, showcasing his reliability as a depth forward. The Minnesota native was a standout at the University of Minnesota before turning pro, producing 94 points in 115 NCAA games. He also represented the United States at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2014 and 2015, adding international experience to his résumé. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Colombia: New Container Houses (Prices May Surprise You) Container House | Search Ads Search Now Undo Waddell noted that his veteran presence and responsible two-way play make him a strong insurance option for the Jackets' roster. Columbus Blue Jackets continue offseason focus on forward depth and roster moves Fasching's signing comes as part of a broader effort by the Columbus Blue Jackets to strengthen their forward depth. Earlier this summer, the club acquired Charlie Coyle and Miles Wood from the Colorado Avalanche, both of whom are expected to bolster the team's bottom six. While Fasching may begin the season as a healthy extra or in the AHL, his ability to step into the lineup when needed provides valuable stability. The Blue Jackets are entering the 2025–26 season with optimism after posting a 40-33-9 record last year. With a promising young core and key offseason additions, the club has emerged as a trendy pick to return to the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Fasching's role may not be in the spotlight, but his signing underlines Columbus' commitment to organizational depth and readiness for a long season. Hudson Fasching's arrival on a one-year, two-way deal gives the Columbus Blue Jackets an experienced, versatile option for their bottom-six forward group. While he may not play every night, his presence ensures the team is better equipped to handle injuries and lineup changes as they push toward a playoff return.
