VE Day 80 RAF flypast: When and where to watch
Monday, May 5 marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War Two and events are being planned to mark the occasion.
In London a VE Day military procession of more than 1,300 members of the armed forces, uniformed services and young people is planned.
The procession is due to travel from Parliament Square, along Whitehall and The Mall, before finishing at the Queen Victoria Memorial.
Subject to weather conditions, there will also be a flypast over Buckingham Palace and The Mall.
When and where can you watch the demonstrations?
Events will begin in Parliament Square at midday with a short ceremony, before the procession begins at 12.10pm.
The flypast is expected to take place at 1.45pm and will follow a path over Buckingham Palace and The Mall.
Viewing areas will be in place along the procession route on both sides of the Mall and entry to these is free.
Organisers have advised the public to arrive early if they want to ensure a space in these areas.
Those not in London will be able to watch the events on television and those on the south east coast might catch a glimpse of the formation as they make their way to London.
Flight restrictions on commercial planes being imposed by the government suggest a rough route and timings for when the planes might be flying overhead prior to the flypast.
Government flight restrictions suggest the following times and altitudes for the aircrafts participating.
Area A - between 11.45 & 14.45, up to 10,000ft
Area B - between 13.15 & 14.10 up to 5,000ft
Area C - between 13.20 & 14.10 up to 4,000ft
Area D - between 13.20 & 14.10 up to 3,000ft
Area E - between 13.25 & 14.10 up to 2,500ft
Area F - between 13.25 & 14.10 up to 2,500ft
Area G, H & I - between 13.25 & 14.10 up to 2,500ft
What will the flypast involve?
The RAF says the full flypast will see 23 aircrafts including the Red Arrows and the Lancaster Bomber from the Battle of Britain memorial flight.
The formation is also set to include Typhoon, A400M Atlas, C-17 Globemaster, Rivet Joint and Poseidon aircrafts.
Rehearsals for the event took place on Monday at RAF Cranwell, where the formation flew over RAF Cranwell's College Hall as a stand-in for Buckingham Palace.
Wing Commander Andrew Watson said: 'We are very proud to be able to show the nation and His Majesty The King, our Commander-in-Chief, on this historic occasion, our capability and present that as a fitting and appropriate tribute for the millions of people who served in the Second World War.
"It should be a good spectacle for the nation and the Commonwealth."

Tourists 'ran in terror' after a 90mph tornado flattened a popular Butlin's resort, uprooting trees from the ground and ripping roofs from chalets. Now, the site looks completely different Roofs were 'ripped like paper' from this once-thriving Butlin's resort that has now taken on a completely new breath of life. Back in 1947, a 150-acre stretch of rolling farmland - sandwiched in between mountains and sea - was transformed into a Red Coat holiday camp, after previously being used as a training centre for the Admiralty and Merchant Navy during World War Two. Located in Pwllheli, in Wales, it had the capacity to welcome a whopping 8,000 visitors at any one time, and even boasted its own miniature railway that whizzed holidaymakers from the centre of the complex over to the beach. Like any classic Butlin's site, the resort boasted a huge outdoor swimming pool with a five-tier water feature, along with a boating lake, ballroom, tennis courts, cosy cabins, and thrilling fun fair rides. In 1987, it is believed the camp bought the Vekoma Boomerang, a stomach-churning roller coaster that consisted of six loops (three of which went backward). When it came to entertainment, the Pwllheli site also did not disappoint. "Ringo Starr appeared at the camp during his pre-Beatles era," reports Butlin's Memories. "His group, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, appeared for a 13-week engagement in 1960. The booking was due to start on June 4, but Ringo declined due to his impending marriage. In the end, the marriage was cancelled so he could go to Butlin's." However, on August 14, 1989, the site was wrecked by a freak tornado that sparked carnage in the seaside town. According to North Wales Live, tourists 'ran in terror' as 90mph winds ripped roofs from lodges, chucked boats into the air, and uprooted trees from the ground. "I remember I'd just come back in from having tea. It had been a gorgeous day, the sun had been shining all day long," Ian Bond, who was at the camp when the tornado hit, said. "We went back into our chalets, then all of a sudden there was this huge bang and a crash. Then it went really quiet." Ian explained how when he looked outside, all he could see was 'grey dust everywhere' before the terrifying twister became visible. "It came up over the headland near where the cable cars used to be, and up over the boating lake. It literally split all the trees and you could see the path where it had been," he added. "Then it came towards the chalets. We ran back inside and then it hit us. It ripped everything to pieces. When it passed, we looked up and the roof of the chalets were just gone, ripped off." With the majority of the camp flattened, and more than 35,000 forced to cut their holiday short, the tornado caused an estimated damage of £2 million. A £30 million investment scheme was announced a year later, and the site rebranded as Starcoast World - boasting a new subtropical water-world known as StarSplash. But by the end of 1997, the Pwllheli camp was transferred to Haven Holidays - and the survivIng Butlin's features were bulldozed. Chalets were replaced with static caravans, and the funfair and miniature railway were removed. Now, the area is home to the Hafan-y-Mor Holiday Park, which was given an AA 5 Platinum Star award last year. The popular Haven site features an adventure village, water park and pool, as well as four-lane slide and flume. Visitors can now opt to stay in Caravans, Lodges, or Apartments - with three-night stays costing as little as £49.

Everywhere in the country you could see the Red Arrows this weekend
The famous Red Arrows will make their way across parts of England this weekend as they carry out a display at the RAF Cosford Air Show - here is where you can see them Excited Brits will be looking to the skies this weekend as the Red Arrows take to the air for some more spectacular displays. The red jets are taking part of the RAF Cosford Air Show in Shropshire on Sunday and will fly over parts of the Midlands and northwest England. Brilliant airborne tricks, daredevil flying and symbolic display has made the Lincolnshire-based squadron a favourite for Brits over the years and mean many of those attending the air show will be hotly anticipating their arrival. But they will also be visible from a number of places in the area close by tomorrow. Today, the crack flying team departed from RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, Scotland, to Liverpool's John Lennon Airport. The Red Arrows' route will begin at 2:59pm tomorrow. After flying over Ellesmere Port, the squadron is expected to be northeast of Chester just two minutes later. Then, the team will barrel through British skies travelling south to an area around Cholmondeley, before turning northeast towards Natwich and then south past Blackbrook, Walford, Harper Adams University and Lilleshall before reaching RAF Cosford. The team will then head east to their home in Lincolnshire following the display. The Red Arrows are expected to be northeast of Brewood at 3:34pm and will pass near Uttoxeter and Sutton-on-Trent on their way to Waddington at 3:45pm. The times could change due to the weather or other factors, according to the website whic shared the expected route and timings. This year's air show at Cosford, meanwhile, will feature an array of legendary aircraft like the American P51 Mustang, royal Air Force Chinook helicopter and F-35B Lightning fighter jet. The arrival of The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, will see the iconic Lancaster, Spitfire and Hurricane planes and the C-47 Dakota. Organisers of the event said the theme of the show this year is 'Commemorate, Celebrate, Innovate'. It said: 'The air show will commemorate some of our history both in terms of assets and through displays in the Victory Village; Celebrate the work of the Royal Air Force, NATO Allies and Partner nations; And seek to inspire the next generation by showcasing how the armed forces innovate together and with our Defence sector partners in the STEM Hangar.' 2025 RAF Cosford Air Show in Shropshire: Thousands expected
The RAF Cosford Air Show returns this weekend, bringing displays of aircraft ranging from the Battle of Britain fighter planes to modern military 50,000 people are expected at the annual event on Sunday, near restrictions are being relaxed and extra trains put on to cope with the influx of event is the only one of its kind organised by the RAF, and chief operations officer Sqn Ldr Chris Wilson said it attracted people from around the world. "People are fascinated by aviation," he said. "It's something that makes people stop and look." The event was first held in 1978, and has run most years since this year include the Great War Display Team, performing a dogfighting routine in replica British, French and German World War One aircraft, displays by the RAF Red Arrows and the Royal Navy Black Cats, and Chinook and Apache will also be a display from aerobatics pilot Mélanie Astles, the first woman to take part in the Red Bull Air Race. Sqn Ldr Wilson said static aircraft, which this year include the Eurofighter Typhoon, a Boeing Stearman biplane, and a Sioux light helicopter, were also popular."We work very hard to put on a really interesting flying display, but we also try and make sure that there's lots to see on the ground as well in our hangars," he said. "It's a really, really, good way to expose young people to what aviation is and how maybe they can get into it when they're older."The show was a useful tool to demonstrate to children the practical applications of what they learn in maths and physics lessons, he added."They come and meet people [like them], from Wolverhampton and Telford, who happen to be in the Royal Air Force, or maybe they work in the Civil Aviation sector and they go: 'If you can do this, why can't I?'"And that's really the nice thing about it." Sqn Ldr Wilson said he and his colleagues enjoyed being able to share their passion for aviation with others."If you're working around aircraft and all this stuff every day, it just kind of becomes the norm," he said. "You forget how exciting it is for people who don't get to see it on a regular basis."Cosford is a working RAF station, meaning visitors can really get a feel for the aviation industry, he added."We train all of the Royal Air Force's aircraft engineers," he explained."But of course, we work behind the wire day in, day out, and very few people actually get to see what we do on a regular basis."So, for us, it's quite nice to be able to show off a little bit."
