With the Eid Al Adha break, a four-day weekend from Thursday to Sunday, now over, residents across the UAE have returned to work. While the festive break is behind them, many are wondering when the next public holiday will fall.
According to UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, issued in May, there are 12 official public holidays each year for both the public and private sectors. These include fixed national holidays as well as Islamic occasions, the exact dates of which depend on moon sightings.
So far, several holidays have already been observed in 2025, including New Year's Day, Eid Al Fitr, and Eid Al Adha. However, three official public holidays still remain in the calendar for the rest of the year, and while exact dates for some are provisional, they give residents something to look forward to.
What's coming up?
The UAE Cabinet Resolution No. 27 of 2024, issued in May, confirms that there are 12 official public holidays each year for both the public and private sectors. While no holidays are immediately upcoming, these three major public holidays are expected later in 2025:
Islamic New Year: Thursday, 26 June (one-day holiday)
The first day of Muharram will be observed as a public holiday to mark the Islamic New Year.
Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) Birthday: Friday, 5 September (one-day holiday)
This holiday falls on the 12th day of Rabi Al Awwal. The exact date will be officially confirmed after the moon-sighting committee announces it.
UAE National Day
: Tuesday and Wednesday, 2-3 December (two-day holiday)
The year will end with a mid-week celebration of the UAE National Day on these two consecutive days.
Important Rules to Note
According to the Cabinet resolution:
Official holidays (except Eid holidays) can be moved to the start or end of the week by a Cabinet decision (Article No. 2).
If a public holiday falls on a weekend or overlaps with another holiday, it will not be carried forward to another day (Article No. 3).
Local governments have the authority to approve additional official holidays for their departments or institutions on special occasions (Article No. 4).
As residents and workers look ahead, it's good to keep these dates in mind, while awaiting official confirmation closer to each occasion.

Maheshtala clash: Cops hurt, govt vehicles set afire in West Bengal violence

KOLKATA: Five policemen, including DC (Port) Harikrishna Pai , were injured and two govt vehicles were damaged and a bike was set ablaze when cops tried to stop clashes in the Rabindranagar-Akra near Maheshtala on Wednesday. Police resorted to lathicharge and fired tear gas to rein in the situation. Till the last report came in, police continued raids and rounded up four persons. Route marches were also being held. The root of the problem, according to locals, could be traced to a "hurried construction of a tulsi mancha" at a spot, where a member of a minority community used to have a shop. The trader was away for Eid. But the other group alleged the shop was on an encroached land, which belonged to a local temple. Before the administration could mitigate, the two groups started protesting, which snowballed into violence and roadblocks. The mob then targeted police. Around 10 am, a crowd started building near the Rabindranagar Police Station. Between 2 pm and 2.30 pm, the mob suddenly attacked police, who were heavily outnumbered. The mob pelted cops with stones till additional forces arrived and they charged back. But as the unrelenting mob kept growing in number, police resorted to lathicharge and could finally disperse the crowd from the spot around 3.30 pm. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Memperdagangkan CFD Emas dengan salah satu spread terendah? Another clash broke out around 4.30 pm, with the mob attacking KP cops, including the DC (port) Rai. Cops, in riot gear, formed smaller teams, each led by a senior officer. The police teams reportedly chased the protesters, lathicharged some and lobbed tear gas shells. The situation was brought to normalcy by around 6 pm. Armed battalions and RAF conducted route marches along a 3km radius between Santoshpur Rail Bridge and Rabindranagar PS. Kolkata Police commissioner Manoj Varma and ADG (South Bengal) Supratim Sarkar camped at the spot during this operation. Later, Varma met DCP Pai at a nursing home in Kolkata. "The situation is peaceful now. Raids are on. Four persons have so far been arrested. The injured cops' condition is stable," said a senior officer late at night. Police did not issue any statement. Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, condemning the incident, said despite being attacked, police handled the situation "firmly but with sensitivity". Ghosh, criticising Bengal opposition leader Suvendu Adhikari's comments, said, "Untoward incidents do take place. It happens everywhere. But what should our role be, to inflame it or act responsibly?" Adhikari, who staged a protest outside Bhawani Bhawan, demanded CAPF deployment. "The Calcutta High Court's CAPF deployment order (in Murshidabad) can also be implemented here," he said, indicating he might move court.

Yunus Backed By Terrorists, Rohingya Corridor Ploy To Sell St Martin's Island: Sheikh Hasina

Last Updated: Bangladesh's ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said that interim advisor Muhammad Yunus is undermining Bangladesh's access to the seas. Bangladesh's ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina said interim government advisor Muhammad Yunus ascent to his current role was backed by terrorists and under his interim rule there has been a rise in crimes, violence is the norm and there is a ploy to 'sell the nation's sovereignty". 'Women feel unsafe in our cities. During Eid, foreigners visited Bangladesh and people from urban centres went to villages to celebrate Eid with their families. Now no one goes to rural Bangladesh fearing they will be robbed by terrorists who have overseen the ascent of Yunus," Hasina said. The leader who is currently living in exile in India said that Yunus is taking steps that threaten the sovereignty of Bangladesh, referring to the 'Rohingya corridor" proposal. Hasina said Yunus is backing the 'Rohingya corridor" proposal in a bid to sell St. Martin's Island and undermine Bangladesh's access to the seas. The idea originated from a UN suggestion during Secretary-General António Guterres's visit and was later discussed by Nobel Peace laureate Yunus. 'Selling the nation, selling and undermining our access to the sea is what he is doing. This Rohingya corridor is a ploy to sell St Martin's Island and undermine our access to the seas," Hasina said in a speech streamed live on Facebook. Months before accusing US of attempting to undermine Bangladesh's sovereignty by seeking control of the St. Martin Island, ousted Bangladesh ex-prime minister Sheikh Hasina had warned that a 'white man' came to tempt her with an offer. She also said that her re-election process, in the 2024 general elections that the US and the West raised concerns about, would have been smoother if she allowed a foreign country to build an airbase inside Bangladeshi territory. Hasina told Awami League workers August last year that she 'could have remained in power if I had left St. Martin and the Bay of Bengal to America', according to a report by The Print. The ousted Prime Minister said Yunus has failed to stem the influx of refugees and the numbers of refugees has only swelled. Hasina, her rival Khaleda Zia of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and t he Bangladesh Army have warned the corridor could become a 'foreign‑controlled buffer zone". The Army Chief Wakar-Uz-Zaman labeled it a potential 'bloody corridor" and demanded decisions be made only by an elected government. Under mounting pressure from the military, opposition parties, and public opinion, Yunus's interim government backpedaled. Officials clarified that no corridor deal had been finalized. Bangladesh hosts 1.3 million Rohingya refugees in temporary settlements like Cox's Bazar. In her speech, Hasina also said that members of her party, the Awami League, are brutally killed in broad daylight and Yunus has failed to protect the Bangladeshi citizens. She also said that under Yunus the nation has lost its status as a garment exporter and that he has been involved in corruption and has assumed his current role in order to fill his coffers.
