Noah Lyles shoved by Kenny Bednarek after 200-meter win at U.S. championships
Lyles reeled in Bednarek in the homestretch to win in 19.63 seconds.
As he was crossing the finish line, Lyles turned to Bednarek in the lane next to him and started jawing at him. A few steps after they crossed, Bednarek reached out and gave Lyles a two-handed shove.
Lyles turned around, backpedaled and reached his arms out, then kept jawing at Bednarek. Their argument continued into the start of the NBC interview.
'I tell ya, if you've got a problem, I expect a call,' Bednarek said.
Lyles replied: 'You know what, you're right. You're right. Let's talk after this.'
Asked by the network's Lewis Johnson what happened, Bednarek said: 'I'm not going to say it out here, but we got something to do and talk about.'
The next chapter figures to play out Sept. 19 in Japan, where they'll be among the favorites in the 200-meter final. Lyles is trying to match Usain Bolt with four straight world titles in his best race.
Lyles had a slow start to a season that has featured Bednarek opening as the dominant sprinter of 2025. Bednarek won the 100 meters Friday and also beat Lyles at the Olympics last year, finishing second in a race in which Lyles won bronze while suffering with COVID-19.
'It was a pretty difficult championship,' Lyles said. 'I've been tired. It's been rough. Coming out here when you're not 100 percent and being able to say, 'I still got to give my all no matter what happens.' That's tough. That's tough.'
Melissa Jefferson-Wooden won the 200 in a personal-best time of 21.84 seconds, while Olympic champion Gabby Thomas had to wait a few anxious moments to see if she earned a spot on the world team. She did as her named popped up in third place.
It was a winning weekend for Jefferson-Wooden, who also captured the 100 on Friday. She will be joined in the 100 at worlds by Sha'Carri Richardson, who has an automatic spot as the defending champion. Richardson didn't advance to the final in the 200.
The women's 400 hurdles was wide open with Olympic champion and world-record holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone electing to focus on the open 400 ( she won the event Saturday ). Dalilah Muhammad, 35, took control and cruised to the win.
One of the afternoon's most exciting finishes was in the men's 800 meters, where 2019 world champion Donavan Brazier used a strong kick to hold off 16-year-old Cooper Lutkenhaus and Bryce Hoppel.

Aboriginal group launches legal bid to stop Brisbane Olympic stadium
An Indigenous group has launched legal action to stop a 63,000-seat stadium for the 2032 Brisbane Olympics being built on culturally significant land. The Queensland government announced in March that a new A$3.8bn ($2.5bn; £1.8bn) stadium would be built - with federal funding - at Victoria Park, a 60-hectare site. The Yagara Magandjin Aboriginal Corporation (YMAC) and Save Victoria Park group are requesting the federal environment minister to determine the park as a culturally significant site, which could protect the land from development. "The department is currently reviewing this application and will take all standard steps to progress it, including engaging with the applicant, the proponent and the Queensland government," they said. If the stadium is built, it will host the opening and closing ceremonies of the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032. Brisbane to build 63,000-seater stadium for 2032 Games Infrastructure plans for the 2032 Olympics have become a heated political issue in Queensland in recent years. Labor's Annastacia Palaszczuk led the successful Olympic bid, and announced plans to redevelop the ageing Gabba stadium for the games, at a cost of about A$3bn. However the plans have been met with protests in Queensland, with some locals concerned about losing a large inner-city green space, and other worried about potential damage to cultural heritage. Trump creates task force to prepare for 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump on Tuesday established a task force on the 2028 Olympic Games being held in Los Angeles that he said would ensure the event is "safe, seamless and historically successful.' The 2028 Games will be the first Olympics to be hosted by the U.S. since the 2002 Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah. Setting up the task force reflects the intense planning that comes with hosting the Olympics, as well as Trump's desire to be involved in an event he considers one of the highlights of his term. 'The L.A. Olympics is shaping up to be a wonderful moment for America. It's going to be incredible. It's so exciting,' Trump said as he signed an executive order at the White House establishing the task force. The executive order calls for the task force to coordinate security and planning for the Games, streamline visa processing and credentialing for the athletes, coaches, media and other visitors coming to the U.S. Trump said that "we'll do anything necessary to keep the Olympics safe,' adding that could potentially include deploying 'our National Guard or military.' Earlier this year, Trump sent National Guard troops to Los Angeles to respond to immigration protests. Trump will serve as chair of the task force, with Vice President JD Vance as vice chair. Other members include a number of Cabinet secretaries and administration officials, like Attorney General Pam Bondi, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem and White House chief of staff Susie Wiles, who appeared alongside Trump on Tuesday. Also present were Olympic champion gymnast Nastia Liukin and Brad Snyder, a swimmer who competed at the 2012 Paralympic Games. Trump praised Gene Sykes, chair of the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee board of directors, for the USOPC's move to effectively bar transgender women from competing in women's sports. 'The United States will not let men steal trophies from women at the 2028 Olympics,' Trump said. He questioned why he didn't hear applause from the room when he praised Sykes for it, and then received some claps from some people in the room. Trump 'considers it a great honor to oversee this global sporting spectacle,' White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement, calling sports one of the president's 'greatest passions.' During the signing event, LA28 president and chair Casey Wasserman presented Trump with a set of gold, silver and bronze medals from the 1984 Olympic Games, which were held in Los Angeles. 'Can I say I won them athletically?' Trump asked, as he displayed the medals to an audience of reporters. Wasserman said the task force "marks an important step forward in our planning efforts and reflects our shared commitment to delivering not just the biggest, but the greatest Games the world has ever seen in the summer of 2028.' Along with the 2028 Summer Games, Trump has said that the 2026 FIFA World Cup being hosted by the U.S., Canada and Mexico is among the events he's most looking forward to in his second term.
