Shubman Gill
On his first Test tour to England as captain, Shubman Gill returned home with plenty of pride and accolades. Tasked with leading a relatively inexperienced side in the absence of several senior players, Gill rose to the occasion both as a batter and leader. The 24-year-old piled up a stunning 754 runs across five Tests, narrowly missing out on Sunil Gavaskar's Indian record for most runs in a series.
More importantly, his composed leadership helped India bounce back from a 1-2 deficit to draw the series 2-2.
The dramatic six-run win in the final Test at The Oval turned the tide, and Gill was rightly named India's Player of the Series.
Virat Kohli
When Virat Kohli led India in England for the first time in 2018, the team ended up losing the five-match series 1-4. However, the scoreline didn't fully reflect how closely contested the games were.

MS Dhoni
Dhoni's first tour as captain to England in 2011 was one to forget. India, ranked No. 1 in Tests at the time, were thoroughly outplayed. The team suffered a 0-4 whitewash, with neither the batting nor bowling clicking. Other than

Sourav Ganguly
In 2002, Sourav Ganguly led India to a commendable 1-1 draw on English soil. It was India's best series result in England since 1986. The series was memorable for Rahul Dravid's 602-run tally and Anil Kumble's 14 wickets. Ganguly's aggressive leadership and belief in his young players laid the foundation for future overseas successes.

Mohammad Azharuddin
Azharuddin's first series in England as captain came in 1990. The three-match series saw India lose the opener before drawing the next two, resulting in a 0-1 defeat. Despite the setback, the series helped shape Azhar's leadership for the years ahead.

‘No batsman will like it, I heard commentators saying…': Sachin Tendulkar says the buck stops with Mohammed Siraj
Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar was full of admiration for Mohammed Siraj's relentless show on the England tour, as he ended up as the highest wicket-taker in the series. Siraj stood up on the big occasions and claimed five-wicket hauls at Edgbaston and the Oval to help India register crucial victories. In Jasprit Bumrah's absence, Siraj stepped up when India needed him most, delivering a game-changing spell at the Oval. With a fifer in the second innings, he ran riot with the old ball and turned the tide in India's favour to help the visitors register a famous win. Sachin Tendulkar heaped massive praise on Mohammed Siraj.(PTI and AP Images) Tendulkar lauded Siraj for his fearless display across the series, noting how his sharp swing consistently troubled the opposition batters and how he impressively maintained his pace even on the final day of the contest. "Unbelievable. Superb approach. I love his attitude. I love the spring in his legs," Tendulkar said. 'For a fast bowler to be constantly in your face like that, no batsman will like it. And the approach he had till the end on the last day, I could hear commentators also saying he bowled around 90mph (145kph) on the last day after having bowled more than 1000 deliveries in the series. That shows his courage and big heart,' Tendulkar said on his Reddit account. Siraj's most definitive effort came on the fifth day of the final Test at the Oval, when his singular grit helped India bowl out England for 367 in a chase of 374. He was named Player of the Match for claiming nine wickets across two innings. Sachin hails Siraj for delivering knockout punches on regular basis The batting icon asserted that Siraj often gets under the radar and doesn't get the credit he deserves, despite regularly delivering the knockout punches on a regular basis. 'The way he started on the last day was remarkable and he has always been instrumental, playing a key role whenever we need him, whenever we want him to deliver that knockout punch, he's been able to do that consistently in the past, and so was the case in this series. The way he picked all those wickets and performed, he doesn't get the credit he deserves,' he added.

Kuldeep Yadav told to add another dimension to his game to become a regular in Tests: 'With all due respect to his…'
Former India batter Robin Uthappa has sent a clear message to Kuldeep Yadav with important advice about how he can position himself to feature more regularly in Test matches. Kuldeep travelled to England for a five-match Test series but didn't feature in a single match, which drew some flak. The left-arm spinner made his Test debut in 2017, but since then, he has played only 13 matches. He last played a red-ball match for India against New Zealand in 2024. Kuldeep Yadav didn't play a single Test on the England tour.(PTI) Head coach Gautam Gambhir and skipper Shubman Gill faced some criticism for not including Kuldeep in any of the matches in England. However, the 2-2 series result ultimately helped justify the decision to go with Washington Sundar instead. The team management decided to go with depth in the batting line-up in English conditions, and Sundar played the role well, scoring a century in Manchester and then a half-century at the Oval to help India draw the series. Sundar scored 284 runs at an average of 47.33. He didn't get much opportunity with the ball on pace-friendly tracks, but he managed to claim seven wickets in 74.1 overs he bowled. Also Read | Jasprit Bumrah under fire for 'pick-and-choose' act, refusing to step up vs ENG: 'He'll get 6/10, was below expectation' Uthappa also told Kuldeep to work on his batting skills to align with the current team management's plans, but he asserted it wouldn't be easy for him. "Put Kuldeep in the 11 and make sure you're batting is still in a state where none of the fans will go after the team management or the captain. With all due respect to Kuldeep's prowess with the ball, he's got limitations to his batting. That's going to take a lot of effort from his side," he said on his YouTube channel. The former batter further gave an example of legendary Ravichandran Ashwin, who used to be a regular in overseas conditions too. Ashwin had 6 Test centuries to his name and played some crucial knocks in testing times to rescue India. "Ashwin has got 5-6 Test hundreds. If he can do that at the lower middle batting order, say at number eight or nine, then he will certainly play more Tests," he added.
