Show grace on the road, says Sabeena Farooq

Express Tribune25-03-2025

On Monday, actor Sabeena Farooq used her Instagram story to deliver an important message for car drivers, especially during the days leading up to Eid and on the festive occasion itself. The actor urged drivers to be considerate of motorcyclists, particularly families riding together to enjoy Eid festivities, emphasising the need for patience and kindness on the road.
"If you have a big car, demonstrate great grace too," Farooq wrote. She highlighted the significance of these moments for families who may not often get such opportunities to celebrate together. "Be civil with bike riders who are out with their families for Eid festivities. This is their joy."
Farooq explained how being hostile towards other drivers and vehicles creates senseless fear and frustration among everyone on the road, frustration that can otherwise be easily avoided. "There's no need to honk the horn so loudly that children on bikes get scared," she said.
The actor also addressed situations where motorcyclists may unintentionally move into a car's lane. Appealing for understanding, she added, "If they've teetered into your lane a little, be patient unless you fear a collision."
Farooq's appeal comes at a time when Pakistan has witnessed a series of devastating road incidents. On Monday, a man and his pregnant wife were killed when a water tanker collided with their motorcycle on Karachi's main Sharae Faisal road. The couple was en route to a hospital for a routine check-up when the accident occurred.
In another tragic event on February 16, eleven people lost their lives, and seven others were injured in two separate road accidents in Punjab province. These incidents highlight the pressing need for improved road safety measures and heightened awareness among drivers.

Paul keeps on trucking in Rome after vehicle is repossessed at home

Tommy Paul has had to put off-court distractions in his rear view mirror at the Italian Open this week after the American's beloved truck was repossessed at his home in Florida. Paul beat Hubert Hurkacz 7-6(4) 6-3 on Thursday to set up a semi-final against Jannik Sinner in Rome but it was clear the fate of his Ford F-150 was a worry for the world number 12, who has made more than $10 million in career prize money. 'It's been a great week on court so far. I feel like I've been getting a little bit better with every match. Off court, a little bit of a stressful week,' said Paul. 'I got my truck repossessed. I missed a couple payments and they took my truck from my house this week. I've been grinding to get my truck back. If you know me, that's my baby.' Paul, who later shared a video on Instagram of his vehicle being towed away, added that his truck was on the way back home after he paid a $1,000 fine to the authorities. Gauff overpowers Andreeva to reach Italian Open semi-finals 'I'm excited to get it back. I had to win a couple matches so I could pay that off,' said Paul after pocketing 291,040 euros ($325,964) for reaching the last four. Paul is the first American man to reach consecutive semi-finals in Rome since Pete Sampras in 1993-94 and he could return to the top 10 with a win over world number one Sinner. He is also seeking his first title of the season after capturing three in 2024 and a win in Rome would be the perfect build up to the French Open, which begins on May 25.

Alijah Arenas, son of NBA legend Gilbert, in coma after cybertruck crash

Alijah Arenas, a highly touted recruit committed to the University of Southern California's men's basketball team, is in a coma following a serious car crash involving a Tesla Cybertruck early Thursday morning. The 18-year-old guard, who recently led Chatsworth High School to the CIF Division II state championship game, was injured when the vehicle struck a fire hydrant and a tree near Corbin Avenue and Blythe Street in the Reseda neighbourhood of Los Angeles at approximately 4:56 a.m. LAPD Officer Rosario Cervantes confirmed the crash and said the driver was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. A source familiar with the incident revealed that Arenas is in a coma and that drugs or alcohol are not believed to be factors. Video footage first shared by TMZ showed a damaged Cybertruck at the scene, with water gushing from the broken hydrant. Bystanders can be seen attempting to help the teen, who is shown lying face down in the street before trying to get up. A voice can be heard urging him to 'wake up.' Photos shared later show the Cybertruck wrapped around a tree with extensive damage, including shattered windows and a crumpled 'no parking' sign. The vehicle reportedly caught fire later at a tow yard, prompting a response from Los Angeles hazardous materials teams. Arenas is the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas and reality TV personality Laura Govan. Govan requested prayers via Instagram shortly after the crash, while Gilbert cancelled a planned online broadcast. Ranked among the top 10 basketball recruits in the nation, Arenas recently played in the McDonald's All-American game. He had committed to USC in January, selecting the Trojans over Arizona, Kansas, and Kentucky. USC head coach Eric Musselman said in a statement, 'Our thoughts and prayers are with Alijah and his family following this morning's accident.'

Boosie Badazz replaces totaled BMW hours after crash

Boosie Badazz didn't let the pain of a recent crash keep him down for long. Just hours after a multi-car accident totaled his BMW, the Louisiana rapper was spotted at a dealership, picking up a brand-new white BMW. Despite still recovering from the crash, Boosie, who was seen limping and needing assistance to walk, was determined to get behind the wheel again. In a video posted on April 8, Boosie told dealership staff, 'I'm injured right now. I can't really walk.' However, after test-driving his new car, he noted, 'Feeling a little better now,' and made plans to return the following day to choose a second vehicle. The crash, which occurred on April 7 in Union City, Georgia, left Boosie's green and black BMW, valued at over $100,000, completely wrecked. The rapper, however, made it clear on Instagram that he wasn't the one behind the wheel. In a video, Boosie stated, 'No, I ain't wreck no f###### car. I don't never wreck no car. Stupid ass n##### wreck my cars. My fourth car in six months. I ain't never wreck s###.' According to police reports, Boosie was a passenger during the crash. They confirmed that a driver ran a red light at high speed, triggering the multi-car collision. Though Boosie suffered minor injuries, including being visibly shaken and shirtless at the scene, he was able to walk. Several others involved in the crash were hospitalized. Earlier that day, Boosie shared on Facebook that he was 'good' despite being 'banged up,' thanking God for his survival.
