Royal Welsh Show to feature S4C's Adam Jones this year

A well-known TV gardener is preparing to compete at this year's Royal Welsh Show.
Adam Jones, a presenter from S4C's Garddio a Mwy, will enter the horticulture competition in Llanelwedd while also serving as honorary director of the horticulture section and filming a special episode of the show.
Mr Jones said: "I don't know how I'll get on because it's the first time I've entered.
"It's one thing to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers but it's another thing entirely to grow something that will catch the eye of the judges and win that coveted red certificate for a first place.
"I've entered classes for sweet peas and pelargoniums which are among the most highly sought prizes at the show along with some soft fruits.
"I've also entered the class for a display of five vegetables but I don't know which vegetables I'll bring along to Llanelwedd yet."
Viewers will see how he fares on a special edition of Garddio a Mwy, airing at 8.25pm on Monday, July 28.
The episode will feature behind-the-scenes footage from the showground and follow Mr Jones as he helps set up the horticultural village.
Euros Wyn, producer of Garddio a Mwy, said: "We're still in the process of firming up what will be in the programme.
"Filming will start before the show gets underway following Adam as the setting up of the horticultural village gets underway.
"We'll naturally speak with growers, exhibitors and visitors to the show and hopefully follow some of the competitors as they prepare for the event.
"There will be something that will hopefully appeal to everyone in this special programme."
Mr Jones relaunched the horticultural section at last year's show and oversaw the development of the new horticultural village.
He began gardening at the age of three, learning from his grandfather, and now promotes organic and nature-friendly gardening through work with schools and community groups.
Adam Jones said: "I was delighted to be offered this fantastic opportunity to work with the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society and excellent individuals from across Wales to realise the potential of the new horticultural village.
"It is encouraging a new generation of exhibitors and growers to compete and celebrate their work, with a big focus on education."
Fundraising is also well underway in the show's feature county of Caernarfonshire.
Show president John Owen, from Rowen near Conwy, said: "Funds have been raised in the past by the other counties to support the show to erect new buildings and improve facilities.
"We have been raising funds for the show and we have something in mind but we are not there yet to reveal what this might be."
The show will also welcome a royal visitor.
Princess Anne, president of the Royal Agricultural Society of the Commonwealth, will attend the show and its annual general meeting.
It will be her seventh visit to the Royal Welsh Show, which she last attended in 2022.

‘My husband and I went to play golf on the west coast': Catherine Zeta-Jones on filming Netflix hit ‘Wednesday' in Ireland

Ahead of Wednesday season two, Catherine Zeta-Jones discusses why the series and the Addams family are so relevant, visiting her Irish roots with husband Michael Douglas and feeling blessed in midlife Lately, we have become accustomed to very open public and private conversation about the realities of midlife, and yet it still seems strange to discuss Morticia Addams in this particular bracket. That said, in the new, second season of Netflix's Wednesday, Morticia, played again by Catherine Zeta-Jones, is very much a woman navigating the recognisable rigours of midlife.

The scent lasts forever and reminds me of hot summer nights' Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones has revealed her favourite fragrance and shoppers can buy it from high-end retailers (Image: Getty Images) Sometimes, when we stumble upon a perfume, we know it's a special one if it takes us back to a specific time or place. Welsh actress Catherine Zeta-Jones, who is known for her elegance and beauty, has revealed her favourite fragrance that does exactly that - and it can be bought from high-end retailers. The actress and singer, known for starring in Chicago and The Legend of Zorro, revealed in an interview with Glamour back in 2021 that one of her favourite scents was Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge. As it suggests in the name, the perfume contains Jasmine, which, according to the actress, "evokes such wonderful memories for [her]". During the interview, Catherine said: "We have a lot of jasmine around the property in Mallorca, and I always take my last swim as the sun is going down. That's when the jasmine really starts to flourish and you can smell it." If you are looking for a similar scent but from an alternative retailer - and more importantly, for a more affordable price, there are other options out there. A 50ml bottle of Tom Ford Jasmin Rouge could cost you in the range of £188.70 to £222 from retailers such as John Lewis, Selfridges and from the Tom Ford website (Image: Selfridges) The NOU Jasmin Perfume for Women EDP 50ml, for example, was £27.10 but is now £11.20 at Superdrug, providing a £15.90 saving for beauty enthusiasts. The NOU Jasmin Perfume combines 'captivating' jasmine notes for a 'floral and alluring scent that lasts' according to the retailer. While there are no reviews of the perfume on Superdrug's website, there are on Amazon's site, which is currently selling the perfume for a marginally higher price of £12.99. So far, NOU Jasmin Perfume on Amazon has received a rating of 3.6 out of five stars based on 64 global reviews. "Love the fragrance," one happy reviewer said. "Exactly Jasmin smell. If you compare this to south India wedding, this smell you will get commonly as Jasmine flower we use in wedding for decorations/ for hair etc". But not everyone was pleased with the perfume and gave it a three-star rating. They reviewed: "Smells nice and a bit like jasmine but the perfume doesn't last long". However, another customer said it had a "very gentle scent", while another said it was "perfect". Elsewhere, those looking for a jasmine scent for a decent price could also purchase the Yardley English Jasmine Eau de Toilette 125ml from Boots, originally priced at £18 but now £6 cheaper at £12. The Boots fragrance has a floral scent, with notes of lemon and mandarin, mixed with 'delicate' notes of calamondin and frangipani, which complements the rich floral jasmine scent. The fragrance has received a rating of 3.9 out of five stars and 29 reviews. One customer was seemingly happy with their purchase and reviewed: "The scent is sooooooo good the citrusy floral scent just captures you. "The scent last long for about 3 hours and I love the packaging as it gives a rich look. It is also very cheap and worth the money and also love the fact that it is vegan friendly so I can recommend to my vegan friends". Like Catherine Zeta-Jones, this perfume evoked memories for one shopper. In their review, they penned: "Yardleys is a brand that reminds me of my Grandma, yet it's a brand I have grown to love over the years. "This scent is beautiful, not too strong that it overpowers the room but fresh enough. I have been wearing this perfume for the last month and have had several compliments. "This is a brand I have bought before and will definitely continue to buy. This product is value for money and I've even heard this particular scent be compared to Gucci. The packaging is good quality as well as a well made bottle." But the perfume didn't suit everyone. One shopper claimed: "The perfume isn't as strong as others nor does it last as long as I would have liked it to, the scent doesn't resemble jasmine, it's more like a wood smell, however the size of the bottle is good value for money, + it's vegan so it works well for a wider range of people". However, other customers were of a different view. This reviewer said: "I absolutely love Yardley London English Jasmine Eau de Toilette! The scent is fresh, floral, and beautifully delicate, making me feel elegant and confident every time I wear it. "It has the perfect balance—light enough for everyday use but still long-lasting. The jasmine notes are so natural and refreshing, not too overpowering, just the right amount of sophistication. "The packaging is also lovely, simple yet classy. Plus, I appreciate that it's made with 94% natural ingredients and is vegan & cruelty-free. It's truly one of my favourite fragrances!" Catherine Zeta-Jones isn't the only one to love Tom Ford Jasmin Rogue. While there are no reviews on the Selfridges and Tom Ford website, on John Lewis's website, the perfume has received a rating of five out of five stars based on eight reviews. One customer said: "My favourite perfume. The scent lasts forever and reminds me of hot summer nights." Another described it as "truly amazing and unique". And while one praised it as "refreshing and lasting", they had an issue with one thing. They added: "Absolutely love it. It's expensive but well worth it. However, not sure about the bottle's design, could do better; the bottle is masculine looking whereas the scent is delicate." The Swansea terraced house that looks like a stately home

From the outside, this three-bedroom house on the outskirts of Swansea looks like an ordinary terraced home. But step inside and it reveals a remarkable work of art - a beautifully decorated neo-classical interior inspired by 18th Century Royston Jones, 77, originally from Ceredigion, inherited the house after his father passed away. Over the past five years he and his partner Fiona Gray have transformed it room by room using their own plasterwork and decorative Jones said his love of art and interior design was shaped by his experiences growing up as a foster child, and by visits to grand estates across west Wales and to Heveningham Hall in Suffolk. Mr Jones didn't learn about his past until he was 18 when he discovered relatives in Newquay who had never known of his existence, as his unmarried mother had kept his birth a by various foster families, including the Honourable Lady Aitken, he said he encountered "some really interesting" and "well-connected" individuals who left a lasting impact on his life and artistic Lady Aitken he was introduced to the Van Eyck family of Heveningham Hall, which he described as the "finest neo classical interior in Europe" and his "spiritual home".Mr Jones explained: "It's enormously grand. "It's longer than Buckingham Palace and it stands in the middle of the countryside with a great lake in the valley."His visits sparked a lifelong fascination with King George III's favourite architect James Wyatt, who designed the hall's interiors, and he has since built up an archive of the inside of the the government purchased it in 1970, Mr Jones spent significant time researching and photographing Heveningham Hall - and the entrance hall in his Swansea home is now modelled on its entrance hall. After studying art at Lowestoft in East Suffolk, Mr Jones went on to attend London College of Fashion. However, a serious illness forced him to pause his studies. During his long recovery he turned to academic research on architecture and began crafting his first neo classical models."I just find it incredibly beautiful," he said. "It's almost too delicate to survive - and yet it does. It's everywhere."It was during this period that he met Ms Gray. The two began working together, with their first paid commission in 1985 where Ms Gray assisted him. Since then they have spent the past 50 years creating intricate one-eighth scale models of neo classical interiors, focusing on the period between 1760 and work has been commissioned by a number of high-profile people and has earned them numerous awards. These include models of both Sledmere House's drawing room in Yorkshire and the Painted Room from Spencer House. The latter was originally intended as a gift for Diana, Princess of Wales and was described at the time by Lord Rothschild, who had restored Spencer House, as "a masterpiece, a work of genius".Mr Jones has held major exhibitions in Bond Street, created artwork for Russian palaces, and completed plasterwork in a grand Robert Adam mansion in Portland Square, pair's decades of working together has led to their long-term project; their home in Swansea. Built in 1910, the house on Llangyfelach Road in Treboeth is a two-storey brick property with a low-pitched slate Jones said his father moved from Newquay in Ceredigion after the war and settled in Treboeth with his stepmother, later leaving the house to him and Ms Gray "unexpectedly".The pair moved in from Norwich and began transforming the Jones said: "I thought we were living in this plain old box, and I wanted to bring some beauty into it."He added the house looked "very different" before they took it over as his father and his wife were "very conventional"."I'm sure he'd be amazed if he saw all this now." The pair transformed it room by room, so far decorating six rooms with only one at the back still Jones explained that "hand by hand" they designed every ornament, created the moulds, and cast each piece said the simple ceilings took up to four weeks to complete, while more intricate features like the staircase took much to him, visitors "can't believe it" when they step inside."They all gasp as they come in," Mr Jones said."They call it a Tardis, because on the outside it just looks like nothing and then they walk through the door and they are shocked." Although Mr Jones and Ms Gray are content with life in Swansea, calling it a "lovely place" where "people are so nice", they are considering a move."We're looking for somewhere quieter with bigger rooms, so we can really go wild with even more plasterwork," Mr Jones ahead, they hope to find "someone sympathetic" to buy their home - "someone who truly appreciates what we've done, so it isn't gutted or ripped out."
