Digital Ministry launches public survey to shape Malaysia's digital future
In a statement on Tuesday (July 15), the ministry emphasised that public participation in the survey is not merely a sharing of opinions, but also signifies their role as partners in shaping a digitally empowered Malaysia.
"This initiative aims to ensure that the country's digital policies genuinely reflect the needs and aspirations of the people, and that the benefits of digital transformation are equitably experienced by all.
"By gathering direct citizen feedback, this initiative will shape concrete actions for the mid-term review of Mydigital Aspiration, ensuring future strategies are inclusive, resilient, and truly reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of society," the statement read.
Through the survey, the ministry aims to understand ideas on digital access and connectivity challenges for the public and industry, digital literacy gaps and training needs, as well as risks and opportunities of emerging technologies.
"These insights will guide policy improvements and the development of initiatives that truly address real-world situations, especially for underserved communities.
"The survey asks for postcode information, used only for broad, non-personal demographic analysis, without identifying individuals," it added.
With the goal to shape inclusive digital policies, the ministry urged all Malaysians, regardless of age, background, or location, to take part in this crucial survey.
"Every citizen's contribution helps create Malaysia's digital future, ensuring no one is left behind as the nation moves towards a more connected and innovative society.
"The survey is available online in Bahasa Melayu and English for broad participation.
"The Ministry guarantees all collected data is handled with the highest standards of privacy and security," said the ministry.

13MP: Turning ambition into action
The tabling of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) in Parliament on Thursday marks a significant milestone in charting the nation's medium-term development course. As Malaysia stands at a crucial juncture amidst global economic uncertainty, technological transformation, climate change, and demographic shifts, the 13MP presents an opportunity to reset priorities, build resilience, and steer the nation toward sustainable and inclusive growth. In general, the plan must be commended for its intent to address critical national challenges such as income inequality, digital transformation, green economy transition, and institutional reform. Its success, however, will depend not just on ambition but on discipline, transparency, and effective execution at every level of government and society. To ensure the effective implementation of the 13MP, the following aspects must be given focused follow-up: Monitoring and evaluation A robust and transparent monitoring mechanism must be put in place to track the progress of key targets. Regular public reporting and performance audits will help ensure accountability and course correction when needed. Inter-agency coordination Strong coordination across federal, state, and local government agencies is essential. Ministries and departments must work in synergy, not in silos, to avoid delays and inefficiencies. Stakeholder engagement Engagement with civil society, private sector, and local communities must continue beyond the planning stage. Implementation must be inclusive and reflective of on-the-ground realities. Resource allocation and budget discipline The success of the Plan hinges on proper financing and fiscal responsibility. Development expenditure must be prioritised based on impact, equity, and sustainability, with a focus on reducing leakages and wastage. Capacity building and institutional reform Public service delivery needs to be enhanced through capacity building and governance reform. Institutions must be empowered and depoliticised to deliver effectively and with integrity. Flexibility and adaptability The government must be prepared to adapt the Plan to evolving circumstances, including global shocks or domestic shifts. A rigid implementation would risk making the Plan obsolete in a fast-changing world. As a nation, we must treat the 13MP not just as a policy document, but as a shared national commitment. All stakeholders—government, private sector, civil society, and citizens—must work together to ensure its goals are translated into real and measurable outcomes that improve the quality of life for all Malaysians.

Trump visit will cause traffic jam from hell, reckons home-grown stand-up comedian Jason Leong
US President Donald Trump's decision to visit during the ASEAN Summit in October appears to be a feather in Malaysia's diplomatic cap. However, not all Malaysians are so enamoured with the visit of the former TV reality star. One such citizen is well-known stand-up comedian Dr Jason Leong who opined that all roads leading to Kuala Lumpur, including byways, highways and even the small loose bitumen trail leading to your mother's house – will be closed. For a month as well before and after Trump's much ballyhooed visit, projected Leong who gave up his career as a doctor to focus on being a full-time stand-up comedian in 2014. The 40-year-old comic was obviously poking fun at the security measures that will be undertaken to ensure the safety of The Don while he's here. Leong foresees Trumps visit to KL would bring the entire capital city which is often gridlocked anyway to a complete and utter standstill. The post has already generated 1.2K likes, 390 comments and 87 shares at time of publication. Some commenters seemed confused by the need for a US leader to come calling at an ASEAN shindig. More than a few saw the similarities with the pandemic, claiming that the authorities might as well just declare an MCO (movement control order). It'd certainly save the hassle of being stuck in traffic for hours. Better still, just declare public holiday as seems to be the typical SOP (standard operating procedure) in Malaysia. One observer wanted a tit-for-tat response to implementation of US tariffs on Malaysian exports, taxing the special presidential ride (codenamed The Beast). However, one did see a positive side to the whole affair. Malaysians will be getting better roads as the route will be patched up to be good as new. Modifying Trump's much trumpeted 'MAGA' (Making America Great Again) slogan, one commenter declared the US Commander in Chief had come to 'Make ASEAN Great Again'. So perhaps Malaysians should perhaps just bask in the privilege of such a visit. – Aug 2, 2025
