Why Harmanpreet Kaur Shared Her Player-Of-The-Match Award With Fast Bowler Kranti Goud
In India's series-clinching performance in the third ODI, Harmanpreet Kaur and Kranti Goud were the star performers.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur won player-of-the-match award for an excellent century against England in the third and final ODI of the bilateral series which concluded on Tuesday in Chester-le-Street. Kaur scored 102 off 84 to help India post a match-winning total of 318 in reply to which England managed 305.
Kaur struck 14 fours during her innings to lead the charge with the bat for the visitors as they became the second team after Australia to beat England in England in back-to-back ODI series.
A major role in the historic achievement was played by rising fast bowler Kranti Goud who produced a sensational effort with the ball to finish with career-best bowling figures of 6/52 from 9.5 overs to help India win by 13 runs.
After the end of presentation ceremony, in a heartwarming gesture, Kaur announced she's going to share the player-of-the-match award with her young teammate whom she lavished with high praise.
'I want to share my player-of-the-match award with Kranti because she bowled one of the best spells of her career. It's a great achievement for a bowler. We've been dying for a fast bowler like you. Well done, Kranti you deserve it," Kaur said in a video shared by the BCCI.
India secured a 2-1 series win and thus brought an end to what has been a successful tour that saw them also clinch a historic T20I series triumph over England.
Who is Kranti Goud?
The 21-year-old Goud is a right-arm fast bowler hailing from Madhya Pradesh. She made her ODI debut in May against Sri Lanka in Colombo. She played her maiden T20I against England in Birmingham earlier this month. Earlier this year, she represented UP Warriorz in the WPL 2025 where she took six wickets in what was her maiden campaign of career.
Growing up, Kranti took interest in fast bowling after watching bhaiyas play tennis ball cricket. For a long time, she didn't know that there's something called spin bowling in cricket and that is the reason she developed an interest in fast bowling.

'Puri Kasar Nikal Di': Shubman Gill, KL Rahul Hail Akash Deep's Batting
Last Updated: Captain Shubman Gill said Akash Deep 'ne saari kasar puri kardi' with his brilliant 66 as a nightwatchman at the Oval. Captain Shubman Gill, senior batter KL Rahul and batting coach Sitanshu Kotak were all effusive in their praise for Akash Deep, who stunned England and lifted India with a 94-ball 66 as a nightwatchman in the Oval Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on Saturday (August 2). It was the second-highest score for India in the innings and part of a 107-run partnership with opener Yashasvi Jaiswal that played out the entirety of the tricky first session on the third day. With the foundation laid, India went on to score 396/10 in the essay to set a huge target of 374 for the hosts. 'For a long time, there has been this banter between batters and bowlers," Gill told the BCCI in an interview after the day's play. 'The batters keep telling the lower-order batters, karo yaar thoda contribute. I think, i s match mein unhone aage peeche ki puri kasar nikal di (Please contribute a bit, man. I think, in this match, they made up for everything). We had just told him one thing that whatever ball is in your radar, look to score runs. These 66 runs are no less than a century," he added. Kotak had a similar advise for the bowler. 'He was in the lift with me when we reached the hotel. I told him, 'Aakash if you get any ball in your range tomorrow, then go for it and smash. Don't defend compulsorily because you got out defending in the last two innings.' I am so happy to see a fast bowler score an important fifty for us," he said. Rahul, who has emerged as a vocal leader in the squad, was in a jovial mood talking about Akash. 'Most of the chatter is always about the bowlers trying to steal our bats," Rahul said, before adding seriously: 'Just today, I had a brief chat with him to think like a batter and not throw his wicket away." 66 was not only Akash's best Test score but also the highest in his First-Class career. 'Whether I am hit on the body or elsewhere, I'll play': Akash Deep Akash also spoke briefly in the video, revealing his mentality and thoughts the night before. 'When I went to sleep last night, I was thinking I won't get out — a [good] ball can get me out, but I won't throw it. Whether I am hit on the body or elsewhere, I'll play. We needed to play out balls and the partnership of over 100 runs was pretty special. For me, more special than the fifty is playing out two hours for the team," he said. view comments Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. 66 no less than a century: When batter Akash Deep thrilled Shubman Gill, teammates
Shubman Gill and the Indian team were left in awe of Akash Deep's performance with the bat on Day 3 of the Oval Test. Having come in as a nightwatchman on Day 2, Akash showed incredible poise during his innings of 66 from 94 balls and hitting 12 boundaries in the process. His 107-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal, who scored a hundred, helped India put up a target of 374 runs for England to chase to win the match. While Akash has played entertaining cameos during his career so far, this was an innings of substance that had his captain and teammates singing his praises. In a video released by the BCCI, Gill said that the knock was nothing short of hundred for the team. advertisement"I think these 66 runs of Akash — it's no less than a century," said Gill. The Indian captain revealed that there has been constant banter between the batters and bowlers in the team. He said that the batters constantly keep telling the tailenders to contribute with some runs and the Indian captain felt that Akash settled all the scores with his knock. "For a long time, there's always been this banter going on between us. The batters keep saying, 'You lower-order bowlers, contribute a bit, man.' What to say — I think in this match, they settled all scores with us," said Gill. Akash certainly got a lot of tips along the way with batting coach Sitanshu Kothak and KL Rahul revealing what they told the pacer ahead of Day 3. Kothak said that he told Akash to go for a big shot if the ball was in his arc, rather than defending. "Yesterday when he was in the lift after we reached the hotel, I told him — 'Akash, if you get it in the slot tomorrow, just hit it. Don't defend compulsorily, because in the last two innings you got out defending,'" said Kothak. Rahul said that he advised Akash to think like a batter and not to throw his wicket away. "Yeah, this morning, just had a brief chat and told him to think like a batter and, you know, not throw his wicket away," said KL Rahul. Jaiswal and Prasidh Krishna also praised Akash for his knock in the video. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Team India (@indiancricketteam)'I'm not going to get out'Akash revealed his mindset during the knock and said that he told himself that he was not going to get out and throw away his wicket. "Last night when I went to sleep, my mindset was that I'm not going to get out. If the ball gets me out, that's a different thing — but I won't throw my wicket. Even if the ball hits the body or hits anywhere, I have to play. Where there was a need to play the ball, I did. With Jaiswal, we had a partnership of over 100 runs — so that's very special for me," said Akash. Akash said, while the fifty was dear to him, the knock was made special by the fact that he spent more than two hours in the middle for the team. "That fifty is special for me, but more special than that is that I played two hours in the morning for the team — that is very special for me," said Akash. The knock from Akash even brought out a smile from India coach Gautam Gambhir as it gave India the advantage on the day. - EndsTune InMust Watch

Shubman Gill's ‘thoda toh contribute karo' jab lands hard as Akash Deep flips the script on India teammates
Nightwatchman Akash Deep produced an unforgettable counterattack on the third day's morning at the Oval Test, smashing a maiden Test half-century that left England flustered and off balance. With India trailing and the ball doing just enough, Akash showed no interest in mere survival. He walked out with intent and immediately set the tone, launching Jacob Bethell for a boundary in the very first over. That fearless mindset didn't waver, even when England turned to pace; Akash went after Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue with gusto, slashing hard, living dangerously, and reaping the rewards. Shubman Gill reveals his banter with Akash Deep after the latter's brilliant fifty at The Oval(BCCI/Reuters) A mistimed pull to Overton ended his gritty 66 off 94, but by then, he had already stitched a 107-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal. India eventually ended with a strong 396 in the second innings, giving England a 374-run target to win the series. By the end of Day 3, England had lost a wicket for 50. Akash Deep's innings, however, was among the biggest talking points of the day, and a host of India players reacted to his brilliant knock under pressure. Indian captain Shubman Gill made a cheeky remark about how batters keep telling the bowlers to score runs, and that Akash Deep's innings has now put an end to the bickering. 'We usually keep having banter about this. Batters keep telling the bowlers, 'thoda toh contribute karo'. I think today, he has given us a great reply!' Gill told BCCI. 'Today, I told him that if you get a ball in your radar, try to score runs.' KL Rahul, meanwhile, revealed his chat with the bowler right before the start of the day's play. 'This morning, (I)just had a brief chat and told him to think like a batter, and not throw his wicket away. For him to not relax and make sure he gets as many runs as he can, and enjoy himself, play his shots and also be responsible, I think he did all of that. So, really happy,' said Rahul. 'I didn't want to get out' In the same video, Akash Deep stated that he wanted to preserve his wicket for as long as he could. 'I slept the previous night with the mindset that I didn't want to get out. If I get a good ball, then it's fine. But I shouldn't do something erratic, even if that means I get hit on the body. I wanted to play. When the team needed me to stay out there, I had a 100+ partnership with Jaisu (Yashasvi Jaiswal). That is very special for me,' said the 28-year-old.
