Teachers call for respectful communication from parents during discussions

The Sun12-07-2025
TEACHERS used to be people we respected the most, and even feared for their strictness, but it is doubtful if it still works that way with the current generation.
A young teacher raised this matter on Threads, appealing to young parents to be polite and learn to respect teachers when communicating.
Atira, the teacher who shared it online, said that just because she is young in age, it does not mean that parents can take advantage of her or speak to her informally.
'As a teacher, I still carry a great responsibility and strive to do my best. But please use polite and respectful language in official matters.
'Respect is not optional, it is the foundation of healthy communication,' she said.
Atira also shared some screenshots of her conversations with some of her students' parents, where they approached her in an unmannerly way.
One of the conversations showed a parent merely informing her that the child had not completed the assigned homework, instead of helping the child to finish it.
In another instance, a parent didn't appear to be asking for help, but rather ordering her to print something for the child.
When she replied that she hadn't printed it yet, the parent even responded with, 'Why?', which came across as rude.
Leya advised that teachers should have boundaries with the parents by only communicating with them if there is any important matter concerning the student.
'For minor issues like these, teachers can just ignore the message. It's because some teachers keep replying that parents get too comfortable sending personal messages.'
She also said that teachers should put a clear reminder to the parents to only approach them in the class's students' group chat for any inquiries, to set a boundary.
Many netizens said that it is annoying to see parents behaving this way towards teachers.
Noni said she is glad, as a parent who survived her children's school days without texting the teachers, since there were no smartphones back then.

Casper Joins The Civil Service? Meet Putrajaya's Spooky New 'Recruit'

Subscribe to our FREE A series of photos and videos circulating online has painted question marks over the heads of many Malaysians as it shows an alleged 'haunting' taking place inside an office building in Parcel C, Putrajaya. Based on a post uploaded on social media platform Threads, the 'apparition' is not a product of artifical intelligence (AI), and emphasised that it's a real ghost. One of the images in the post shows a man in a poorly lit hallway holding what looks like a broomstick, performing a 'cleansing'. The second image is a photo of a photo taken on a phone screen where a person dressed in white and long black hair covering their face can be seen standing in the office hallway. Meanwhile, one of the two videos in the post shows the side of a building, presumably the office exterior, with what looks like lit candles or torches in two windows. In the second video, a man is seen sprinkling water with his hands while walking through the office corridor — which is typically seen in local exorcism rituals — and a hanging exit sign swings back and forth on its own. Threads users weigh in on the alleged office haunting Many took to the comments section to give their guesses and share their doubts about the post's ghostly content. One user even joked and said that the 'ghost' has better hair than hers. A Threads user shared his own paranormal encounter while working at a service counter in the middle of the night. 'My experience in working at a service counter until late at night, there are 'things' that come and disturb you. Sometimes they just harmlessly disturb you, and those who are used to it can just ignore them. These things will become aggressive if we do something unusual, such as moving something that has always been in that place,' the user said. On the other hand, many expressed their doubts and called the incident a fake one with edited photos. Some also pointed out that the sign was hanging just under an air vent, which would explain why it's swinging so much. Another individual commented on the picture of the 'pontianak', saying that its clothes are too clean, when it should look worn. Meanwhile, Kosmo! reported a source claiming that the supernatural event occurred 'It's said that there was a tree behind Complex C that was cut down. It was its home,' the source said. What do you make of this 'paranormal activity?' Is it a real ghost? Or just an elaborate prank? Share your thoughts with us via TRP's . The short clip, widely circulated on TikTok and Threads, shows the sign hanging from the ceiling moving back and forth, even though the atmosphere in the office appeared calm, with doors shut and no windows visible. Several staff members can be seen carrying on with their work as though unaffected by the disturbance. The disturbance was allegedly linked to recent tree cutting near the building. 'It is said that the other day they cut down a tree behind Complex C, which was its (ghost) home,' a social media user who claimed to work in the area said. A viral TikTok video showing a swaying emergency exit sign at Complex C, Putrajaya, has sparked claims of supernatural activity linked to recently felled trees said to house spirits. Photo: Screenshot from TikTok Circulating online alongside the video was a notice claiming that the building was undergoing a 'cleansing' and 'protective barrier' ritual carried out by an Islamic healer. The notice instructed staff to secure valuables and classified documents and to leave all main doors on each floor open, reportedly to provide an 'exit path' for the entity. A ruqyah (Qur'anic healing) session was also said to have been conducted after evening prayers in the lobby of the building. Public reactions on social media were divided, with some sharing personal experiences of workplace disturbances believed to be caused by spiritual beings. One TikTok user claimed: 'It (ghost) is angry because its home was disturbed. Before this, contractors cut down a big tree. That is where it started, the cause of this disturbance.' Another netizen recounted a similar workplace incident: 'There was once a similar case at my office. All sorts of healers were brought in. In the end, we found out the entity was attached to a new staff member. Suddenly it disappeared and so did the new staff member.' However, skeptics dismissed the claims, attributing the swaying sign to airflow from the air conditioning system. 'It is obvious it is swaying because it is under the blower,' one TikTok user wrote. Minister Wants To Change Name Of Rafflesia Flower, But It Already Has A Local Name

Subscribe to our FREE The Rafflesia, known as the world's largest flower, is a part of Malaysia's natural and geographical identity. It was named after Sir Stamford Raffles, the British colonial official and founder of the port city of Singapore. At a Dewan Rakyat session yesterday (19 August) on the topic of government allocations for the preservation of rainforests in Malaysia, Machang member of parliament Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal raised a suggestion to change the name of the Rafflesia flower in conjunction with Hari Merdeka, as a way to break away from the country's history of colonialism. 'Rafflesia is named after Stamford Raffles, someone who colonised us, someone who is unethical, and we gave our flower his name. 'Perhaps we can decide to name it something else? We can even name it Anwar Ibrahim,' Wan Fayhsal joked. A user on Threads commenting on the matter said that any normal person can 'change the name' but it must go through a process of studies, publications, and peer studies that are approved by the international botany community. 'The power to change or designate a scientific name of a plant falls in the hands of the international scientific community,' the user said. Rafflesia already has a name in Bahasa Melayu The Rafflesia already goes by many names even before the colonist Raffles set foot on Malaysian soil. Here, it is locally known as Pakma , Patma , and Ambai-ambai , but Pakma is more commonly used. Etymologically, the word pakma originates from the word padma , which is Sanskrit for 'lotus'. It is also referred to as Bunga Bangkai , which translates to 'corpse flower' due to its unique and pungent odour that is often described as resembling rotting flesh or decaying meat. The smell actually serves a The Rafflesia is a parasitic plant. It lacks typical plant structures like leaves, stems, and roots, and instead lives as a parasite on the Tetrastigma vine. From the perspective of traditional medicine, the Rafflesia plays an important role in the health practices of the Orang Asli community. Certain parts of the flower, including its roots, are believed to have The flower is categorised as critically endangered The Rafflesia flower remains poorly understood due to its elusive life cycle. In its bud stage, it potentially takes about nine months to bloom. Once the bud opens, the flower's lifespan is very short — typically five to seven days. After the blooming period, the flower rapidly decays. According to a University of Oxford report in 2023, a group of scientists established a coordinated global network to study the threats the Rafflesia is facing. The study found that that all 42 species of Rafflesia are under threat. Based on Share your thoughts with us via TRP's . Get more stories like this to your inbox by signing up for our newsletter.
