Miley Cyrus faces backlash over 'biphobic' comment about JoJo Siwa's relationship with Chris Hughes

Miley Cyrus has faced a backlash from fans after making a remark deemed 'biphobic' about JoJo Siwa's relationship with Chris Hughes.
The Something Beautiful singer, 32, was speaking on a panel at Dreamland Pride Festival in New York when she made her comment about the former Dance Mom's star's new romance.
'Enjoy coming out of the closet if this Pride is the time for you,' Cyrus told the crowd as she encouraged them to 'have an amazing Pride'.
The ex Hannah Montana star then added: 'Alright, I'm going back to get some more pretzels and find JoJo Siwa and bring her back out.'

She was referencing how Siwa, 22, who identifies as queer, split with her partner Kath Ebbs, 27, after appearing on Celebrity Big Brother in April.
During her time on the ITV reality show, Siwa formed a close bond with 32-year-old former Love Island star Chris Hughes and the two have recently confirmed that they are in a relationship.
After clips of the incidents ciculated online, many took to social media to voice their shock.
'It's really strange how some bi women can be biphobic, lol,' remarked one person on X, who highlighted how Cyrus identifies as pansexual.
Pansexual is a term which Siwa has also used previously and is similar to bisexuality, meaning that you can be attracted to anyone regardless of their gender expression.
'Publicly shaming a young woman exploring her sexuality is abhorrent,' declared another. 'Not just Miley, but all of yall posting 'jokes'.'
As a third put in: 'I don't think it's 'funny' to make fun of someone's sexual orientation or gender, but I guess it's perfectly fine if it's directed at someone for not being gay or queer-enough during Pride.'
Meanwhile, some tried to argue that Cyrus and Siwa are friends and that she was clearly 'just joking', but others said it still didn't make what she said okay.
'JoJo is getting visceral hate from the community at the moment so Miley doing this, even if it's a joke, is distasteful. especially considering they're meant to be friends,' said one person.

Tamar Braxton says she ‘almost died' in bloody accident that left her with a fractured nose

Tamar Braxton asked her social media fans to 'pray for me for real' as she recovers from a mysterious and bloody weekend accident. The singer and reality TV star opened up about her latest health scare in an Instagram story shared Tuesday, writing, 'I almost died Sunday.' 'I was found in a pool of blood [by] my friend with a face injury. As the days go by the worse it is,' she wrote. 'I fractured my nose, lost some teeth and mobility.' Braxton did not share additional information about the weekend incident, but said it prompted her to adopt a 'totally different' perspective on life. As she takes time to heal, Braxton also wrote 'my mental health journey begins.' The 48-year-old entertainer concluded her Instagram announcement: 'I don't even know what happened to me.' A manager for Braxton, who began her career in R&B alongside four of her sisters including oldest sister Toni Braxton, addressed the 'Braxton Family Value' star's concerning post in their own Instagram story shared Tuesday. Manager Phil Thornton thanked followers for their outpouring of concern and support for Braxton. 'She is resting and recovering. Thanks for your prayers and well wishes,' he wrote. Thornton did not immediately respond to The Times' request for additional information. Braxton has long been open about her health. Over the years, she has spoken publicly about her vitiligo, her experience with pulmonary embolism (which prompted her to drop out of 'Dancing With the Stars' in 2015) and her struggles with depression and anxiety. In 2020, Braxton spoke also about how the allegedly toxic culture of reality TV pushed her to attempt suicide. Earlier this year, Braxton embarked on a solo singing tour, which launched in April in Washington, D.C., and ended in May in Oakland. Braxton was also known for her time on 'Tamar & Vince' with her ex-husband Vince Herbert, 'Celebrity Big Brother' and the syndicated talk show 'The Real.'

Thousands gather to celebrate third Pride by the Harbourside

THOUSANDS of people gathered on Whitehaven Harbour to celebrate this year's Pride event. The third Pride by the Harbourside took place on Saturday with a parade led by the deputy lord lieutenant for Cumbria and the MP for Whitehaven and Workington, Josh MacAlister. A free concert was then opened by Eurovision icon Sonia and performances followed by boyband 911, Danish Eurodance group Cartoons and English house music duo Freemasons. Along the harbour were food stalls, information stalls, and a variety of family-friendly activities. For the first time, Rosehill Theatre hosted a community stage. The event, organised by Proud and Diverse Cumbria, attracted between 8,000 and 10,000 people to the harbourside. The parade at Pride by the Harbourside (Image: Colin Johnston) Glenn Anderson, director for Proud and Diverse Cumbria, said: 'It was fantastic. There was so much colour, so much vibrancy. The stallholders did tremendous trade. 'Most importantly, from my perspective, we provided an environment that was good for the mental health wellbeing of vulnerable and isolated people. That's our job done. 'The number of people dressed up, wearing glitter and carrying flags, there were thousands of people who were there associated with our event, not just visitors. That's a great thing because it evidences the need for these safe spaces to be created. The event brought colour and vibrancy to Whitehaven Harbour (Image: Colin Johnston) 'I equally wish to point out that Cumberland Council are doing a very good job addressing the rights of minority people. 'I have to publicly recognise that we have achieved some of the goals that we wanted to. I have to thank the people who are in power for listening that we all wanted was equality and parity. 'It's getting to the point that maybe the next event doesn't need to have a label. I don't want us to be segregated in any way. We are part of the community. Our focus going forward, is to continue integrating into the community. Josh MacAlister, the MP for Whitehaven and Workington, gives a speech at Pride by the Harbourside (Image: Josh MacAlister) 'Truly thanks to the harbour commissioners for allowing us each and every year to bring some colour and vibrancy to such a beautiful, historic, scenic location. We are extremely privileged that they grant us permission every year to do that. 'Thank you to the leader and deputy leader of the council, Mark Fryer and Emma Williamson, who have been great champions and have done what they pledged in their manifestos.' Josh MacAlister, MP for Whitehaven and Workington, said: 'It was an honour to help open the celebrations and to stand alongside so many friends, families, allies and neighbours in support of our LGBT+ community. The colour, the music, the joy, and - most of all - the sense of togetherness made me proud of what Pride represents. Josh MacAlister, the MP for Whitehaven and Workington, at Pride by the Harbourside (Image: Josh MacAlister) 'As Cumbria's first openly gay MP, I'll never take for granted the progress we've made, or the importance of events like this in showing that whoever you are, and whoever you love, you are welcome and valued here. 'Thank you to the organisers, volunteers and everyone who made the day such a success. Here's to many more years of Pride by the Harbourside - and to carrying that spirit of inclusion and equality with us every day of the year.'

Singer Tamar Braxton reveals she 'almost died' after bloody facial injury

Tamar Braxton is coping with a recent health scare. The "Celebrity Big Brother" winner, 48, took to her Instagram story on Aug. 19 to share that she'd broken her nose, lost "some teeth" and experienced impaired mobility over the weekend. "I struggled to write this but everyone keeps calling me and honestly, I can't even really talk anymore I'm so weak," she wrote. "I almost died Sunday. I was found in a pool of blood from my friend with a face injury," she wrote." "As the days go by the worse it is," she continued. 'I fractured my nose, lost some teeth and mobility. The way I look at life now is totally different. As my health is on the mend my mental journey begins.. pray for me for real. I don't even know what happened to me.' USA TODAY has reached out to Braxton's representative for comment. Braxton, who hosts MTV's "Caught in the Act: Double Life," has a history of being open about her physical and mental struggles. As she competed on Season 21 of "Dancing with the Stars" in 2015, Braxton had to drop out of the competition after being hospitalized. What she'd thought was pneumonia was diagnosed as blood clots in her lungs. Years later, she spoke out against "toxic" forces in the television industry in 2020. After nearly a decade of starring on We TV's "Braxton Family Values" alongside her mother Evelyn and sisters, — Toni, Traci, Towanda, and Trina Braxton — she claimed she was "betrayed, taken advantage of, overworked, and underpaid." Braxton also mentioned her "cry for help" went unheeded, and she survived a suicide attempt. Soon after she made her story public, We TV said it would "honor her request to end all future work for the network." If you or someone you know may be struggling with suicidal thoughts, you can call or text 988 or chat online any time of day. The Crisis Text Line also provides free, 24/7, confidential support when you text 741741.
