Elon Musk's Neuralink may be using monkeys to give humans ‘superpowers'
Elon Musk-owned
Neuralink
is reportedly testing
brain implants
in monkeys that can eventually give humans "superpowers," including capabilities beyond normal vision. While the device's initial goal may be to restore vision in visually impaired patients, the company's long-term objective for its
Blindsight device
includes enabling "
superhuman capabilities
" such as infrared sight, the tech billionaire predicted in March. Now, a company engineer has revealed that its tests using brain implants in monkeys has enable one of primate to see something which is not physically present. At a recent conference, Neuralink engineer Joseph O'Doherty announced that the device, Blindsight, stimulated vision-linked brain areas in a monkey. During tests, the monkey moved its eyes toward what researchers wanted to make the monkey's brain to visualise at least two-thirds of the time.
According to a report by Bloomberg, these findings are Neuralink's first public disclosures regarding test progress with Blindsight. Earlier this year, Musk confirmed that Blindsight has been tested in monkeys for several years, with human trials planned for later this year.
How Neuralink's Blindsight device can help its users
This area of research represents a closely observed frontier in brain device development, exploring how technology may treat challenging medical conditions. However, it's important to note that the device is not yet approved for human use in the US, and it remains to be determined how the findings from animal studies would translate to humans.

Neuralink executive O'Doherty added that the company eventually intends to pair the implanted chip with specialised glasses to help display the enhanced visual data. Testing in monkeys offers practical advantages, since a monkey's visual cortex lies nearer the brain's surface. For human applications, Neuralink plans to use its surgical robot to insert the implant into deeper cortical regions.
Musk sees these medical achievements as steps toward speeding up human communication and 'mitigating the risk of digital super-intelligence,' a vision he outlined in 2024. Apart from this device, his work on brain–machine interfaces is also running alongside AI development at xAI Corp.

All 10 Kolkata Police divisions to have cybercrime police stations
1 2 3 Kolkata: As cybercrimes and cyber threats surge across the city, Kolkata Police has begun planning "out-of-the-box" strategies to counter the menace. Besides rapidly modernizing itself and creating avenues to train more policemen with sophisticated modes of investigation, Lalbazar is also considering establishing a cybercrime police station in each of its 10 divisions. Although the exact launch date for these cyber stations is not yet determined, senior cops have initially agreed on the importance of creating these stations. Sources indicate that the process of identifying suitable buildings or locations for these stations in each division has already begun. Currently, Kolkata Police has only one cybercrime police station, located centrally at Lalbazar. Additionally, each division has a separate cyber unit that assists in solving various crimes and recovering mobile phones under the leadership of the divisional DCP. "There is no final decision yet on the role of these cyber units once the new cyber stations are established in each division. In all likelihood, these units will be expanded into full-fledged police stations. This will also solve the problem of lodging FIRs with local police stations, even as the cyber cell of the division handles the probe, leading to victims being forced to run around from one unit to another once essential recoveries are made," said a senior cop. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like BMW iX2 100% électrique BMW Voir les offres Undo Since this will entail huge manpower, the expansion is likely to occur in phases once the proposal is placed formally before the state administration and gets the necessary go-ahead, said the officers. Ever since Manoj Verma took charge as the commissioner of Kolkata, he has put a stronger emphasis on the cybercrime department, trying to return the duped amounts quickly and break the organised rackets. Is the Nintendo Switch 2 now available on Amazon?
Image via: Nintendo The gaming world recently welcomed a new record setter, the much-hyped Switch 2. Within just 4 days of its formal launch on June 5, 2025, the console managed to move 3.5 million units, becoming Nintendo's fastest-selling console by far. More than 3 million units were said to have shipped on launch day, further entrenching Nintendo's multifaceted presence. With new features such as online voice and video chat methods, and with next-generation hardware improvements, Switch 2 looks to be more of an overhaul rather than a simple successor. A Complicated Wait in India While gamers in the U.S., Europe, and Japan have begun to explore portable play of the new level, Indian fans find themselves with a very complicated wait. Nintendo has yet to officially release its Switch 2 in India, leaving fans in the lurch as far as price and purchasing options. Meanwhile, in the absence of an official release, the grey market has been quietly filling that space. Amazon India is now listing the Nintendo Switch 2 at a ridiculous markup of ₹75,999, almost twice the U.S. MSRP of $449 (roughly ₹37,000). Hogwarts Legacy is retailing at about ₹4,000, with pre-orders opened for Donkey Kong Bonanza, Super Mario Party Jamboree, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land (Switch 2 Editions). From the U.S. listings, these are being offered at top dollar ranging from $69.99 to $79.99. For Indian gamers eager to get their hands on the Switch 2, the grey market appears to be the only avenue, but there is risk involved. Warranty may be an issue apart from the high prices. Nintendo's international warranty usually excludes India, which means that buyers will have to go-it-alone in case of damage or defect. Besides, the after-sales services are barely enough to support the customers. Nintendo Switch 2 – Overview Trailer Is It Worth It? The Switch 2 brings cool upgrades and new games that'll keep you hooked for hours. But if you're careful with your money, it might be smart to wait for it to hit Indian stores. Nintendo's been slow to focus on India in the past, but with sales through the roof and more people wanting their products, it could happen sooner rather than later.

‘Best deal India has ever offered': India-UK trade pact seen as landmark win in UK Parliament; deal hailed for boosting GDP
The Free Trade Agreement (FTA) concluded with India places Britain at a 'genuine' competitive advantage in advanced manufacturing sectors, UK Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds told the House of Commons during a debate this week. Fielding questions on the scope and benefits of the deal — agreed last month — Reynolds described the FTA as a major economic win for the UK and 'the best deal that India has ever offered'. 'On advanced manufacturing… a set of advantageous positions has been agreed, putting this country at a genuine competitive advantage, particularly in relation to sectors such as automotive and machinery,' Reynolds said in response to British Sikh Labour MP Gurinder Singh Josan, as quoted PTI. 'India is traditionally a very protectionist economy, and it is the world's fastest growing big economy. Whether it is for goods or services… or the West Midlands as a whole, there is so much good stuff here to celebrate,' the minister added. The UK government estimates the deal could boost bilateral trade by GBP 25.5 billion annually in the long term. The Department for Business and Trade (DBT) projects a GDP increase of GBP 4.8 billion and wage growth of GBP 2.2 billion per year over the next decade. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Cervecería Nacional CFD: Calcula cuánto podrías ganar invirtiendo solo $100 Empieza a invertir Inscríbete ahora Undo The debate in Parliament comes just ahead of UK-India Week, which begins next week as part of the India Global Forum (IGF) summit in London. Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal is among the high-level speakers expected at the event. UK-India Week will also mark the launch of the 2025 edition of the 'India Meets Britain Tracker', an annual analysis by Grant Thornton and the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) that maps investment flows from India to the UK. 'Indian companies continue to play a pivotal role in the UK's growth story — from job creation to innovation. This year's tracker showcases their growing diversification, scale and resilience, and reflects the growing maturity and confidence of Indian enterprise on the global stage,' said Anuj Chande, Partner and Head of South Asia Business Group at Grant Thornton. 'Indian businesses are no longer just investing abroad – they are transforming global economies,' said India Global Forum founder Manoj Ladwa. According to last year's report, a record 971 Indian-owned companies were operating in the UK — a number that has continued to rise. With India and the UK now ranked as the fourth and sixth largest economies respectively, the FTA is being seen as a critical pillar in one of the world's most strategic investment corridors.
