Phillips 66 (PSX) Suffered From An Overreaction After Elliot Victory, Says Jim Cramer

Yahoo5 days ago

We recently published a list of . In this article, we are going to take a look at where Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) stands against other stocks that Jim Cramer discusses.
Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) is a diversified American oil and gas company. The firm operates in the chemicals, oil refining, storage, and transportation industries. It made its way to Cramer's morning appearance as activist Elliott Investment managed to secure two seats on the firm's board. Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX)'s shares dropped by 7.5% on the news as investors weighed whether Elliott's demands of business unit spinoffs would generate uncertainty for the firm's future cash flows. For his part, Cramer attributed the fall to an overreaction:
'[On share price movement after activist investor Elliott won two board seats] Yeah that's a reaction. I think there are people who felt that there could be an immediate transaction or something which was never the case. I think that's an overreaction. Not a great group right now but it's an overreaction.'

Cramer has discussed Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) several times this year. For instance, in May he remarked that the firm was being unfairly treated as an oil company while it was a refiner instead. In January, he praised Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX)'s business acumen after the firm bought NGL assets for $2.2 billion. Here's what Cramer said:
'And listen, that's not even an exhaustive list of M&A activity this week. Well, on Monday, Phillips 66 announced a deal to acquire certain privately held natural gas infrastructure assets for over $2 billion… Looking at the transactions we've seen just this week, while some of them likely would've been challenged by Biden's ideologically driven regulators, most of them seem pretty justifiable. All of them make great business sense…'
Overall, PSX ranks 10th on our list of stocks that Jim Cramer discusses. Rare Earth Magnet Shortage Threatens Shutdown of U.S. Car Factories

Auto executives across the globe have raised urgent concerns that an impending shortage of rare earth magnets from China used in an extensive number of car parts threatens to upend vehicle production in weeks. Earlier this month, the Alliance for Automotive Innovation, a trade group representing Volkswagen, Hyundai, and General Motors, expressed unease regarding the impending shortage in a letter to President Trump. The letter listed automatic transmissions, throttle bodies, alternators, various motors, sensors, seat belts, speakers, lights, power steering, and cameras as among the many components affected by a rare earth magnet supply shortage, Reuters reports. The Alliance for Automotive Innovation and The Vehicle Suppliers Association cited reduced production volumes and complete shutdowns of assembly lines as severe outcomes of the scarcity. The Chinese government halted exports of rare earth magnets on April 4 during its trade war with the United States, but American officials anticipated China's mid-May trade war truce with the United States would reopen rare earth magnet access. However, United States trade representative Jamieson Greer said Friday that American officials: "haven't seen the flow of some of those critical minerals, like they're [China] supposed to be doing," according to The New York Times. China's embassy in Washington responded, saying the United States was abusing export controls in the semiconductor sector. An American official familiar with the United States and China's trade talks earlier this month in Geneva said discussions didn't involve export controls, Reuters reports. This same official claimed Beijing was moving slowly on promises to resume rare earth export licenses. India also hasn't received the licenses, putting the country on pace to pause auto production in early June. Europe has received some license approvals, but its Union Chamber of Commerce in China, Jens Eskelund, said the amount is insufficient. A rare earth mineral shortage would most impact United States automakers, and a separate New York Times report notes that some Chinese rare earth magnet makers have stopped production while waiting for permission to resume exports. China controls over 90% of global processing capacity for the magnets used in industries like auto manufacturing, fighter jet production, and home appliances, according to Reuters. The United States makes essentially no high-performance rare earth magnets, but small factories are scheduled to begin production this year in South Carolina and Texas. One operational mine in Oklahoma relies on China for processing. Small sales and profit margins have reduced many countries' desire to produce the magnets, with worldwide sales being a small fraction of larger industries like copper mining. While the United States auto industry will be most affected by a rare earth magnet shortage, the issue is global. To make matters worse, permit applications to China can require hundreds of pages of documents. German auto parts manufacturer Bosch said its suppliers are experiencing difficulty dealing with China's export license procedures. Despite receiving some licenses, Europe is still facing significant supply chain disruptions, and India could halt all auto production early this month. In response, the European Union is fast-tracking its mining and mineral initiatives to reduce its dependency on China. Copyright 2025 The Arena Group, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller Owns $175 Million of This Brilliant Dividend Growth Stock

Philip Morris International is one of the largest positions in Stan Druckenmiller's portfolio. The stock has soared because of its leading position in disruptive nicotine categories. The stock can produce plenty of dividend growth for the rest of this decade. 10 stocks we like better than Philip Morris International › It can pay to follow billionaire fund manager Stanley Druckenmiller, who has put up phenomenal market-beating returns for decades. One of the largest positions in his Duquesne Family Office is Philip Morris International (NYSE: PM). He owns $175 million worth of the stock, first purchased in the second quarter of 2024. Since then, shares have posted a total return of more than 100% as investors have gotten excited about the company's growth with new nicotine brands that are replacing cigarettes. Here's the brilliance behind Philip Morris' strategy, and why this is the perfect dividend growth stock over the next 10 years. Spun out as an independent company almost two decades ago, Philip Morris International is one of the leading tobacco companies that sells outside of the United States, while Altria Group sells its brands domestically. One benefit of owning Philip Morris International is the international diversification it can provide for your portfolio. Even though the company reports in U.S. dollars, the revenue it collects is generally outside the United States, which can help investors when the dollar is getting devalued versus foreign currencies, as is happening today. The stock has soared mainly because of the major investments the company made beyond cigarettes that are now bearing fruit. It has the leading nicotine pouch brand called Zyn, which is growing like wildfire in the United States, and with incredible profit margins. The brand has gone from virtually nothing 10 years ago to selling more than 200 million cans a quarter in the country. More globally, the Iqos heat-not-burn device brand is the leader in the category that is popular in Europe and Japan, driving tons of new revenue and earnings for Philip Morris International. Overall, 42% of the company's revenue now comes from its smoke-free business, driving overall revenue to $38.4 billion over the last 12 months. Dividends are the way that Philip Morris returns capital to shareholders. Its dividend yield is much lower than a year ago at 3%, but it still offers a solid yield for shareholders. One big factor in this dividend consistency is the steady cash flow produced by the legacy cigarette business. Usage for cigarettes is slowly declining in the markets in which it operates, but the company is in a much better position outside of the United States because of its exposure to countries with growing populations. It also has the leading brands that consumers of nicotine are switching to buy. Today, Philip Morris pays a dividend per share of $5.35. This will be funded by its free cash flow per share, currently at $6.55. No cash flow, no dividends. It's that simple at the end of the day. Free cash flow is actually depressed right now because of the large manufacturing build-out for nicotine pouches and heat-not-burn growth. Over the next five years, investors should see an inflection in free cash flow per share up to $10 or higher. In turn, this gives the company plenty of room to grow its dividend-per-share payout, which will boost the dividend yield as long as the stock price doesn't go up. Around 10% dividend growth for the next five years will put the stock's dividend-per-share payout at $8.61, which is well below what the company can generate in free cash flow. This gives the company an easy path to keep growing its dividend payout for shareholders. Even though the stock is up 100% in the last 12 months or so, Philip Morris International stock may still be a solid buy for investors today. Don't expect 100% returns every year, but the math works out that this stock is still cheaper than most you can buy today. It has a forward price-to-earnings ratio (P/E) of 24, which is not overly expensive for a consistent earnings grower. The dividend yield is well above the stock market average, with plenty of room to grow this yield in the years to come. Philip Morris has the dominant position in the growing trend of nicotine use without tobacco, which will make it a market share taker versus competitors. Put it together, and Philip Morris International is a great stock to buy and hold for the long haul. No wonder Druckenmiller has it as one of the largest positions in his portfolio. CIEE BridgeUSA Celebration Tour To Highlight How International Exchange Makes America Safer, Stronger, and More Prosperous

Summerlong American roadshow kicks off in June 2025 with stops at top BridgeUSA employers Cedar Point, Kings Island, and Kentucky Kingdom SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine, June 2, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- The Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) will travel to Ohio and Kentucky next week to begin a summerlong celebration of U.S. Department of State's BridgeUSA international exchange programs that make America safer, stronger, and more prosperous. The celebration kicks off June 8-11 with events honoring top employers who host BridgeUSA Summer Work Travel participants in the heartland of America. The BridgeUSA program brings international college students to live and work in the United States during their summer break, helping American businesses across America expand and extend the summer season. Cedar Point and Kings Island, both based in Ohio; and Kentucky Kingdom, based in Kentucky, will be recognized for their success creating meaningful cultural exchange for both BridgeUSA Summer Work Travel participants and their American teammates. These organizations are just three of the 4,000+ businesses, large and small, across the United States that each year host BridgeUSA participants who positively impact their American host employers and host communities in many ways, including increasing economic prosperity for local businesses and injecting more than $1.2 billion overall into the national U.S. economy. "The BridgeUSA program brings in associates from around the world who create amazing experiences for our guests," said Kaitlin Wattrick, recruiting manager at Cedar Point. "Beyond the park, it enriches our community by fostering cultural exchange and building lasting connections that extend far beyond the summer season." BridgeUSA Makes America Safer and Stronger BridgeUSA programs bolster America's national security and strengthen America's public diplomacy by fostering mutual respect between Americans and people of other nations. BridgeUSA participants return home and spread word of their positive experience in the United States which improves the American image abroad and makes our country safer. BridgeUSA Makes America More Prosperous Most importantly, BridgeUSA participants enable local economies to prosper by extending the tourism season, allowing businesses to employ more Americans for a longer seasonal period, and allowing hundreds of local businesses—from laundromats to general stores, from local diners to grocery stores—to extend the duration of their peak-season sales surge, compounding the positive economic impact in each community. "BridgeUSA provides a significant economic benefit to thousands of American businesses and communities around the United States," said Martine Mangion, Senior Vice President, Inbound Exchange Programs at CIEE. "Many seasonal businesses are able to continue to support domestic jobs in their slow season thanks to the support from the BridgeUSA Summer Work Travel participants who businesses host during their busy season. Some of our hosts are able to stay open an additional 30-45 days longer than they would have without BridgeUSA participants. In addition, BridgeUSA participants spend their wages in the local community and across the country when they travel." "The BridgeUSA exchange programs are the perfect definition of a government program that makes America safer, stronger, and more prosperous," said James P. Pellow, Ed.D., President and CEO of CIEE. "International students pay their way to come to America, they make American businesses more profitable while they are here, and then they return to their home countries with a deeper knowledge and respect for American culture and American values, including the power of democracy and free speech. If BridgeUSA did not exist, we would need to invent it, as it truly enriches all Americans." Additional CIEE BridgeUSA Celebration events are scheduled for Wyoming, Montana, Texas, and South Carolina.
