The Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) has handed a three-year suspension to former Indian pacer S Sreesanth after he made critical and allegedly false remarks about the KCA. His comments came in defense of Sanju Samson, who was left out of the Indian Champions Trophy squad. The suspension was finalized following a meeting on April 30th and bars Sreesanth from participating in any KCA-related cricketing activities. Notably, Sreesanth is also a co-owner of the Kollam Aeries franchise in the Kerala Cricket League.
In addition to Sreesanth, the KCA also issued formal warnings to three Kerala Cricket League franchises—Kollam Aeries, Alappuzha Team Lead, and Alappuzha Ripples. These warnings were prompted by their association with content that criticized the KCA. Following these actions, the teams responded to the notices, and the KCA deemed their replies satisfactory, opting not to pursue further disciplinary steps against them. However, it urged the franchises to be more selective and responsible with team personnel going forward.
The KCA has announced plans to file a lawsuit against Sanju Samson's father, Samson Vishwanath, and two others. This decision stems from claims that they made false and defamatory allegations using Sanju's name. The KCA aims to seek compensation for the reputational damage caused by these public statements, which it says were misleading and harmful to the association's image.
The controversy erupted after Sreesanth appeared in a Malayalam TV interview where he openly criticized the KCA and voiced his support for Sanju Samson. The association quickly responded by issuing him a show-cause notice—not for backing Samson, but for his defamatory claims against the KCA. His statements were seen as linking the cricket board to alleged bias in team selections, igniting widespread attention in Kerala's cricketing circles. Image credit: Source: Instagram
The KCA clarified that Sreesanth's comments also breached his contractual obligations as a part-owner of the Kollam Sailors franchise. By publicly making false allegations, he violated conduct guidelines outlined in his agreement with the league. The association cited this breach as a key reason behind his suspension. Additionally, the KCA contrasted its previous support for Sreesanth—particularly during his difficult times—with his recent actions, which they described as disappointing and unjustified. In its official statement, the KCA referenced Sreesanth's involvement in the 2013 IPL spot-fixing scandal. Although criminal charges were eventually dropped, he was never fully acquitted in the eyes of the cricket board. The association emphasized that it had extended support to Sreesanth during those times, making his current criticisms even more unwarranted in its view.

On Friday, a city court remanded four individuals — including Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) Head of Marketing and Revenue, Nikhil Sosale — to 14 days in judicial custody in connection with the fatal stampede. Apart from transferring officials, the Karnataka government on Saturday ordered a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) investigation into the stampede case. As part of the investigation, CID officials visited the office of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) to gather preliminary information on the matter, ANI reported. As per ESPNCricinfo, top senior officials of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), secretary A Shankar and treasurer ES Jairam, have resigned from their posts, citing "moral responsibility" for the stampede. They submitted the resignations to the president of the board, Raghuram Bhat. The brutal stampede also left its footprints on social media. Following the tragedy, angry netizens, who were once all praise for Virat Kohli, demanded that the cricket icon be put behind bars. Social media users even clashed with each other over #ArrestKohli trending on X, as many users claimed the stampede was because of the organisers' failure.

Jasprit Bumrah 13 Wickets Away From Becoming 1st Indian Bowler To...

Jasprit Bumrah will lead India's bowling attack in the five-match Test series against England, which is set to start on June 20 in Leeds. During the five-match series, which will be first for India under Shubman Gill's leadership, Bumrah, who is the world's No. 1 Test bowler, will have a chance to create history. If the 31-year-old fast bowler from Ahmedabad, who won the ICC Cricketer and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year awards in 2024, manages to take at least 13 wickets in the next five matches in England, then he will become the first Indian bowler to take 50 Test wickets against Poms on English soil. As of now, the record of taking most wickets for India in Tests played against England on English soil is held by Ishant Sharma. Ishant, who is still an active cricketer, has played 14 Test matches against England in England and picked up 48 wickets. On the other hand, Bumrah has dismissed 37 batters in eight matches. In the list of Indian bowlers with the most wickets against England in England, Ishant is followed by Kapil Dev, who finished his career with 43 wickets in 13 matches. Most wickets for India in Tests against England in England The overall record of taking most wickets in Test matches between India and England in England is held by James Anderson. The legendary fast bowler finished his 21-year-long Test career with 105 wickets against India in 22 Tests played on English soil. Most wickets in India-England Tests (in England) Bumrah, who is arguably India's greatest bowler of all time, has played a total of 14 Tests against England so far and has 60 wickets to his name. He needs at least 26 wickets in the upcoming series to go past Kapil's tally of 85 wickets and become India's most successful pacer in Tests against England. Bumrah was on fire for India in the last Test series played against Australia. He played all five matches against the Baggy Greens and picked up 32 wickets. For his super show with the ball, Bumrah won the Player of the Series award, but his performance was not enough to help India avoid the series defeat with a scoreline of 1-3. During the 2024-25 edition of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Bumrah suffered a back injury, and as a precaution, the Indian team management could rest him for a couple of matches in the series against England.
