Besides other facilities, Pakistani Hajj pilgrims would be provided with folding mattresses and air conditioners in camps in Mina, Saudi Arabia, announced Federal Minister for Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony Sardar Mohammad Yousuf on Friday.
The minister made the remarks during his visit to the Hajji Camp in Karachi, to oversee the final preparatory session for Hajj organised by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony.
Speaking at the session, the religious affairs minister praised the care and attention put towards imparting crucial information regarding the significant method and means of performing Haj.
'Several new modifications have been made in the Hajj process. The new changes upheld and arranged by the Saudi and Pakistan governments, respectively, have been devised to ease the journey for pilgrims,' he added.
He said that the government had made arrangements to accommodate all pilgrims in 'Markaziya' to make sure they have the easiest access and assistance they may require.
He reiterated the need for discipline from the pilgrims travelling to the holy land as ambassadors of Pakistan, in making queues, showing patience and abiding by the stated guidelines.
The speakers arranged by the ministry imparted to the pilgrims a detailed session on properties, characteristics and the chronological order in which the different steps on haj are to be embodied. The preparatory session entailed the three pillars and six compulsions required of Haj pilgrims in order to fulfil their duty of performing Hajj.
The ministry would provide a Pakistan-labelled scarf, trolley and mini bag in order to facilitate identification and ensure all pilgrims are well packed.
In addition to this, they would be given a SIM to facilitate WhatsApp calls from Saudi Arabia, a facility that is not possible on SIMS bought from Saudi Arabia, This is to help the pilgrims maintain contact with their loved ones back home, said the minister.

Saudi Tourism on building brand Saudi at the Esports World Cup

Saudi, Welcome to Arabia – the destination brand of the Saudi Tourism Authority – has partnered with the Esports World Cup (EWC) to put the Kingdom's culture, heritage and tourism offering in front of a global gaming audience. Running from 7 July to 24 August, EWC brings together players, clubs and communities from more than 100 countries in Riyadh. Campaign Middle East spoke to Abdullah Aldakhil, spokesperson for the Saudi Tourism Authority (STA), at the event to understand how esports is shaping the Kingdom's brand story and its ambitions to engage younger audiences. 'If you look at Saudi today, around 70 per cent of the population is below 30, so we are enthusiasts for sports, all kinds of sports,' says Aldakhil. 'We view Saudi Arabia as a sports hub – the global hub for sports.' From 2018's Formula E debut to hosting Formula 1, the Spanish and Italian Super Cups, and now the second consecutive EWC, Aldakhil says these events are designed to attract not only young fans but also families and international visitors. 'We expect this year's event to be even bigger than last year's, which hosted more than 3 million visitors,' he notes. 'With the concerts, boulevard activations, and everything happening on‑site, it's a great attraction.' On the EWC show floor, STA is running a dedicated Saudi Tourism booth. Staff guide visitors through interactive displays and visual showcases of destinations across the Kingdom, from the Red Sea and Asir to Al‑Baha, Jeddah and Taif. The booth is part of a wider activation strategy to encourage esports fans – many of them first‑time visitors – to explore beyond Riyadh. Previously, STA announced that its partnership with the EWC would feature curated cultural programming, combining high‑stakes competition with heritage experiences, anime cafés, retro arcades, cosplay, live music and more. The aim is to turn spectators into explorers. For Aldakhil, esports offers a distinctive entry point for destination marketing. 'Having such global events in Saudi is a big push for brands to create their association with us,' he says. 'You see content creators, event enthusiasts, and even casual visitors coming from all across the world – over 100 nationalities participating this year. It's a testament to the belief they have in what's happening here.' That belief is grounded in scale and visibility. Earlier in the day, event organisers announced that last year's EWC generated more than 7,000 hours of content in over 30 languages. For Aldakhil, that's a powerful showcase opportunity: 'We really care about broadcasting not just our gaming, but our identity and our culture to the rest of the world.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Campaign Middle East (@campaignmiddleeast) Saudi's play is not just about pulling in esports fans – it's about positioning the country as a natural venue for global events. 'In the last couple of years, content creators have had Saudi as one of their main destinations,' says Aldakhil. 'Since opening for tourism in 2019, we've been seeing people flying from all over the world to be here.' The EWC is the latest proof point in that positioning. 'With their belief in us, more brands are coming, more collaborations are happening,' he says. 'And when they do come, they see it's not just about the tournament – it's about the experience, the hospitality, and discovering a hidden gem.'

Ferry service from Pakistan to UAE? Sea travel expected to offer affordable options

Travellers from Pakistan will soon have a new mode of transport to connect with the UAE and other Gulf nations, as the country prepares to launch its first-ever international ferry service. On Tuesday, Pakistan's Ministry of Maritime Affairs announced that it had granted an in-principle licence for ferry operations — marking a historic milestone for the country's maritime sector. 'A high-level committee comprising representatives from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, Pakistan National Shipping Corporation, and the Directorate General Ports & Shipping has approved, in principle, Pakistan's first ferry service licence,' the ministry said in a post on X. The initiative is set to open 'a new chapter in maritime travel, tourism, and regional connectivity,' the ministry added. In July, Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry chaired a meeting to discuss the strategic scope of launching ferry routes from Gwadar to the Gulf region. At present, all commercial travel between Pakistan and the Gulf countries — including the UAE — is conducted by air through carriers such as Emirates, Etihad Airways, flydubai, Air Arabia, PIA, Airblue, Serene Air, and Air Sial. Official Launch of Pakistanâs Ferry Service License! Under the leadership of Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry, Pakistan has officially issued its first ferry service licenseâmarking a new chapter in maritime travel, tourism, and regional connectivity. — Ministry of Maritime Affairs, Govt of Pakistan (@MaritimeGovPK) August 4, 2025 The ferry service is expected to offer a more affordable travel option for South Asian nationals visiting the UAE, GCC countries, Iran, and beyond. Its launch also aligns with the region's upcoming unified tourist visa — a Schengen-style initiative that will significantly ease travel across Gulf countries. This will particularly benefit Pakistani tourists using the ferry to explore multiple destinations. The ferry is also set to serve religious pilgrims, offering a cost-effective way to travel from Pakistan to Saudi Arabia for Umrah and Hajj. Additionally, Chaudhry highlighted that between 700,000 and 1 million Pakistani nationals travel annually to Iran and Iraq to visit religious sites. 'If even 20 per cent choose ferries in the first three years, that would translate to 140,000 to 200,000 passengers per year, representing significant economic potential,' he stated. In its initial phase, the ferry service will operate between Karachi and Gwadar. Beyond passenger travel, the initiative is also expected to strengthen maritime trade ties between Pakistan and the UAE. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has recently invited Emirati companies to invest in Pakistan's maritime infrastructure. On Tuesday, AD Ports Group inaugurated its first representative office in Islamabad — marking a major milestone in its global expansion and a deepening commitment to trade and logistics across South and Central Asia. Strategically located near Pakistan's key ministries and state-owned enterprises, the office will serve as a hub for collaboration on infrastructure and trade initiatives. While the Ministry of Maritime Affairs has not officially named the company operating the ferry service, local media reports suggest the licence was awarded to UK-based firm 'Sea Ferry.'
