Fashion show raises money for local youth mentorship
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — Members of the Siouxland community took to the runway on Wednesday in an effort to raise money for a local non-profit that mentors boys and girls.
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Siouxland partnered with Rooted Boutique for a spring fashion show called Fashion for a Cause.

People took turns walking the runway, showing off the stylish outfits at The Warrior Hotel. Non-profit officials said there were 150 tickets available for the event.
Organizers said the fashion show offers an opportunity to invest in the future of children in the community. Proceeds from the event will help match a caring adult mentor with a child who needs someone to look up to.
The show also included a pre-party and post-party shopping event at Rooted Boutique in the downtown Sioux City area.

How will recent tariffs on Chinese imports announced by President Donald Trump affect the price of fireworks? According to one local fireworks retailer, tariffs shouldn't affect prices this year, but that could change in the future. So we were in that cycle and so we had our products coming in as soon as last fall. We got most of our products in before the tariff thing happened, ' John Barber, owner of Zorts Fireworks, said. 'We had three containers that were subject to that increased tariff and we chose not to import those because of the increased cost of the tariff. So they are essentially sitting over there in China until we see how this resolves.' However, Barber said as much as 40 to 50 percent of their stock carries over to the next year. So he's hopeful that Siouxlanders won't see the price of fireworks affected by much next year. Barber added that the fact that Independence Day falls on a Saturday this year means a lot more folks will likely be buying fireworks. He recommends people avoid any last-minute purchases. 'We'll start selling out, we don't want to sell out but we will. So I would encourage our people who are buying fireworks to go in early and pick them up.' ‘Local Perspectives' returns to Sioux City Art Center
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The Sioux City Art Center is now taking submissions for Local Perspectives. All artists 18 years and older who live within 75 miles of Sioux City are welcome to submit their art. Each artist can submit up to three artworks, which can be either 2D or 3D. Each place will receive $500, $300, and $200. According to the Local Perspectives website, Local Perspectives is the 'longest running juried exhibition featuring Siouxland's creative communities.' This year, the collection will be on view October 2, 2025, through February 9, 2026. The deadline for entries is July 28, with final decisions made on August 22. The exhibit will be installed in the JET Gallery located on the third floor of the Art Center and juried by Sioux City Art Center Curator Christopher Atkins. Sioux City Art Center to host opening reception for new art exhibition
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — The Sioux City Art Center will host an opening reception for a new art exhibition. The display comes from Iowa-born, Rhode Island-based artist Duane Slick. It is titled 'A Certain Cadence of Night,' and includes new and recent paintings, silkscreen prints, and a video installation produced in collaboration with Martin Smick. Puzzles, games, D&D: Sioux City Public Library hosting youth, adult reading programs Slick has served as the Professor of Painting and Printmaking at the Rhode Island School of Design since 1995. He earned his BFA in Painting from the University of Northern Iowa and his MFA in Painting from the University of California, Davis. The opening reception is set for 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, June 12. At 6 p.m., the artist will give a talk in the Art Center's Lecture Hall. The event is free to attend and open to the public. The exhibition will remain on display during the Art Center's normal business hours through Sunday, October 12.
