Schools in Chhattisgarh to run morning shifts from June 17–21 due to extreme heat
RAIPUR: In response to the ongoing heatwaves across several regions of Chhattisgarh, the state government has revised school timings for a week from June 17 to 21.
As per the directive issued by the School Education Department, all government and private schools will now function from 7.00 a.m.

to 11.00 a.m. -- a precautionary measure to protect students from the harsh midday sun.
Regular school hours will resume from June 23 onward.
Amid this weather-conscious adjustment, the new academic session officially began on June 16 with a vibrant start across the state. Schools reopened with the celebration of the "Shala Pravesh Utsav (School Admission Festival)", marked by warm welcomes, sweets, and cheerful ceremonies.
At various schools in Raipur, teachers greeted students with a 'tilak' and distributed sweets, setting a festive tone for the year ahead. Similar scenes unfolded in Bilaspur, Jagdalpur, Raigarh, Durg, and Bhilai, where educators embraced returning students with enthusiasm.
Raipur District Education Officer Vijay Khandelwal announced that the admission festival will continue with block-level events on June 18 and a district-level celebration at a Girls' School on June 20.
These events aim to boost enrollment and ensure that no child is left behind at the start of the academic year.
The state government has also made significant strides in school rationalisation. Previously, 212 primary and 48 pre-secondary schools operated without a single teacher. Additionally, over 7,000 schools were functioning with only one teacher. Through a comprehensive restructuring effort, the government has now ensured that every school in Chhattisgarh has at least one teacher.

Meanwhile, 166 underutilised schools have been merged, and institutions with zero student enrollment have been reassessed.
Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai, who welcomed new students in schools through a message on his X handle on Monday, emphasised the state's commitment to achieving 100 per cent literacy.
In a letter to education officials, he reiterated the goal of reducing the school dropout rate to zero by Class 12, in line with the National Education Policy 2020. He also launched the "Mukhyamantri Shiksha Gunvatta Abhiyan (Quality Campaign)", aimed at enhancing learning outcomes in government schools.

'The National Education Policy has been launched in schools and colleges in our state as well. It has been formulated in line with reality. On June 23, Tripura became the third state in the country to achieve full literacy. The literacy rate is 95.6%. After Mizoram and Goa, our state has achieved the recognition of a fully literate state, which is a matter of great pride for us. Three new general degree colleges will be opened in Ambassa, Kakraban, and Karbook,' he said. He said that currently, the state has educational institutions like the National Law University, National Forensic Science University, National Sanskrit University, Central University, IIIT, Fishery College, Agricultural College, Veterinary College, TIT, etc. Apart from this, many more educational institutions are being set up in different places privately, the release added. Local MLA and Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath, Secretary of Ramakrishna Mission Swami Shubhkarananda Maharaj, eminent social worker G.R. Chhattisgarh set for rail revamp, Rs 47,000 crore investment to transform infrastructure
Raipur, June 27 (UNI) In a transformative push for infrastructure and economic development, Chhattisgarh is witnessing an unprecedented rail expansion, with Rs 47,000 crore worth of railway projects currently underway. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and with robust support from the Centre, the state's rail network is expected to double by 2030, from 1,100 route km laid over 161 years to 2,200 route km in just 16 years. The Union Budget 2025–26 earmarked Rs 6,925 crore for railway development in Chhattisgarh. Two new Vande Bharat trains, Raipur to Visakhapatnam and Raipur to Nagpur, have already been inaugurated. Additionally, surveys for a metro system in Raipur have reached advanced stages. Among key ongoing projects are the Bilaspur-Jharsuguda fourth line (Rs 2,135 crore), Kharsia-Dharamjaigarh line (Rs3,438 crore), and the Gharghoda-Dharamjaygarh line. In tribal-dominated Bastar, the newly sanctioned 140-km Raoghat–Jagdalpur rail line (Rs3,513 crore) is set to bring remote areas into the economic mainstream. Officials believe this will also play a pivotal role in countering Maoist influence through improved mobility and access. Parallel to expansion, 32 stations are being upgraded under the Amrit Bharat Station scheme at a cost of Rs 1,680 crore. Notable revamps include Bilaspur (Rs 435 crore), Raipur (Rs 463 crore), and Durg (Rs 456 crore). Recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated redeveloped stations at Ambikapur, Bhilai, Bhanupratappur, Dongargarh and Urkura. The state government has also allocated Rs 300 crore through the Chhattisgarh Railway Corporation for the Katghora–Dongargarh rail line, expected to ease freight load on the Nagpur-Jharsuguda corridor. Final location surveys are nearing completion for several strategic corridors including Ambikapur–Barwadih and Sardegha–Bhalumara. Once implemented, these lines will open new avenues for regional integration, trade and industrial growth, particularly in previously rail-deprived districts like Sukma, Dantewada, and Bijapur. Kolhapur: NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Friday said celebrities such as cricketer Sachin Tendulkar should not be insisted upon to express their views on making Hindi a must in Maharashtra school curriculum through National Education Policy 2020. "Ask Sachin about cricket; don't force him to take a stand on Hindi imposition," the veteran politician said in Kolhapur on Friday. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray announced a march in Mumbai on July 5 against Hindi as a compulsory language for students in state schools from Class 1. Although NCP (SP) has declared support to the July 5 Mumbai protest march, Raj Thackeray said he wanted to see who — especially Marathi artists and sportspersons — turn up and who do not for the march.
