Kenya: Principal Secretary for Medical Services (PS) Harry Kimtai Leads Launch and Presentation of Digitization Devices in Embu County
Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Mr. Harry Kimtai, officiated the Launch and Presentation of Digitization Devices in Embu County today, marking a significant step in the county's implementation of Taifa Care. Embu is the second county to embrace digitization in healthcare services.
Accompanied by Embu County Deputy Governor H.E. Kinyua Mugo, Hon. Moses Kuria, Senior Advisor at the Council of Economic Advisors, State House, Dr Daniel Mwai, Dr. Thuranira Kaugiria, Acting CEO of the Digital Health Agency Anthony Lenaiyara, and Acting CEO of SHA Robert Ingasira, among others, PS Kimtai reaffirmed that the Social Health Authority (SHA) is operational.
He noted that concerns about its effectiveness often stem from non-adherence to established guidelines and highlighted the increase in both the benefits package and revenue collection as key indicators of progress. 'We are here to take you through the new Primary Healthcare Model, including the capitation framework and benefits package. It is essential that the benefit package is displayed in all health facilities for public awareness,' he stated.
He urged Embu county healthcare administrators to fully adopt the digitization structure and integrate it into service delivery. The event also covered the rollout of the Health Management Information System (HMIS) in Embu, detailing its implementation strategy and training plans.
The engagement allowed county teams to share their experiences with SHA and DHA reinforcing the Ministry's commitment to a seamless transition to digital healthcare solutions.

SHA launches blood pressure screening campaign
The campaign will continue until June 30, targeting 20,000 people from various segments of society to raise awareness of the importance of regular screening. This is part of a joint collaboration between SHA and University Hospital Sharjah. The campaign includes several locations in the Emirate of Sharjah to enhance access to the largest possible number of beneficiaries. Preventive healthcare In the presence of His Excellency Dr. Abdulaziz Al Muhairi, Chairman of SHA, and Dr. Khalifa Mohammed Al Nuaimi, CEO of University Hospital Sharjah, the National Campaign for Early Detection of Hypertension was launched. The campaign, organised by SHA in cooperation with University Hospital Sharjah, aims to screen 20,000 people from May 1 to June 30 in several locations across the Emirate of Sharjah. Speaking exclusively to Sharjah 24, Shahd Fayez Al Yafei, Director of the Public Health Department at SHA, stated that the Authority seeks to raise community awareness about the importance of early screening and its role in preventing health complications. The earlier the better Al Yafei added that the campaign will continue at University Hospital Sharjah and several other locations within the Emirate of Sharjah, which will be announced later. This will enable the largest possible number of individuals to benefit from free screenings and learn about the causes of high blood pressure, such as an unhealthy diet, lack of physical activity, and psychological stress. Shahd Fayez Al Yafei explained that medical statistics indicate that early detection of high blood pressure contributes to reducing its complications by up to 50%, which makes the National Campaign for Early Detection of Hypertension a pivotal step in protecting society and promoting health awareness. Building a healthier society Al Yafei stated that the campaign seeks to reach the largest possible segment of the population, encourage them to undergo periodic checkups, and identify the most prominent factors affecting blood pressure, such as diet, physical activity, and psychological stress, in support of the emirate's vision of building a more aware and sustainable health society.

Cabinet Secretary (CS) Duale Urges Kenyans to Enroll in New Social Health Authority Scheme
Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale has called on Kenyans to register in large numbers under the new Social Health Authority (SHA) to access universal health coverage. Speaking at a fundraising event for Harhosa Mixed Day Secondary School at Moyale Baraza Park in Marsabit County, Hon. Duale emphasized that the SHA system allows individuals to register up to four wives and an unlimited number of children, provided they can prove dependency. Hon. Health Cabinet Secretary Hon. Aden Duale today held a consultative session with the National Assembly Committee on Delegated Legislation, chaired by Ainabkoi MP Hon. Samuel Chepkonga, to review the Digital Health (Health Information Management Procedures) Regulations, 2025 at Bunge Towers, Nairobi. The meeting focused on aligning the updated regulations with previous recommendations made during the prepublication stage, ensuring they effectively support the rollout of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Hon. Duale informed the Committee of the operationalization of the USSD code *147# to facilitate the transition of Kenyans from NHIF to the Social Health Authority (SHA) platform. The discussions also emphasized the importance of robust public awareness campaigns to promote understanding and uptake of SHA services, especially at the grassroots level. The CS was accompanied by Medical Services Principal Secretary Dr. Ouma Oluga, Director General for Health Dr. Patrick Amoth, Acting CEO of the Digital Health Agency Mr. Anthony Lenaiyara, and other senior Ministry officials.
